Bhatti leads candle-light rally against SIR in Bihar
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka led a candle-light rally in Khammam on Thursday night, against the deletion of voters in Bihar.
Addressing the party cadre after the rally, Mr. Vikramarka said that the Election Commission had deliberately taken up SIR in Bihar. He said the BJP had hatched a conspiracy to delete voters and lamented that the ECI, which should have been transparent itself, was under cloud for its conduct.
Meanwhile, in response to a call given by the TPCC, Congress cadre held a candle-light protest at the Indira Gandhi statue near Necklace Road on Thursday. Khairatabad DCC chief Rohin Reddy, Congress leader Feroz Khan and others participated.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief B. Mahesh Kumar Goud on Thursday termed the Supreme Court ruling on voter deletions in Bihar a victory for democracy.
In a statement, Mr. Goud said the Supreme Court's interim order on SIR, released by the ECI, is a great victory for democracy. He said the SC has directed that the names of 6.5 million deleted voters be published on the website within 48 hours.
'The allegations of voter theft raised by Rahul Gandhi have been proven true by the SC verdict. It is regrettable that the Centre did not respond even though Rahul Gandhi insisted on a discussion in Parliament,' he pointed out, and demanded that the EC should respond to Rahul Gandhi's demand for implementing the 'One Vote, One Person' policy by linking Aadhaar.
Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy and MLC Addanki Dayakar also hailed the SC verdict.

‘Stale, troubling': Congress slams PM's I-Day speech
NEW DELHI: Terming his Independence Day address 'stale, hypocritical, and troubling', the Congress on Friday lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for praising the RSS in the speech, alleging that the ruling BJP is ready to go to any extent of 'immorality' to remain in power, and that several 'irregularities' in elections are emerging across the country. After hoisting the national flag at the Congress headquarters, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said that opposition's votes are being openly cut in the name of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar electoral rolls, even as those alive are being declared dead. LoP in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and Kharge skipped the Independence Day speech, drawing criticism from the BJP. The Congress chief said the 'most surprising' thing was that the BJP has had no objection to the votes of 65 lakh people being cut. This clearly shows who benefited from the SIR exercise, he said. 'This is not a fight to win elections but to save India's democracy and protect the Constitution,' Kharge said, referring to the Congress's opposition to the SIR exercise. 'Those who are alive have been declared as dead. EC's impartiality can be understood from the fact that it is not ready to share whose votes are being cut and on what basis,' he said. Kharge also claimed that central investigation agencies like ED and CBI, and the Income Tax department have been used 'so openly for political purposes against the opponents that the Supreme Court of the country has to show them the mirror.' In a statement, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said the 'most troubling element' of Modi's speech was his 'name-checking' of the RSS, which was a 'blatant breach of the spirit of a constitutional, secular republic.

BJP will go to any extent of immorality to remain in power
New Delhi: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday alleged that the ruling BJP is ready to go to any extent of immorality to remain in power and reiterated that several "irregularities" in elections are emerging across the country. In his Independence Day speech after unfurling the national flag at the Indira Bhawan Congress headquarters, he alleged that votes of the opposition are being openly cut in the name of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar electoral rolls, even as those alive are being declared dead. The Congress chief said the BJP not having any objection to votes of 65 lakh people being cut shows who benefitted from the SIR exercise.

Demography Mission rollout amid raging debate over SIR
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Friday that his government would soon set up a high-powered demography mission to deal with unlawful entry of foreign nationals in the country. The announcement comes in the wake of the Opposition's allegations that the BJP is 'misusing' the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar to target immigrants, especially those belonging to the minority community. In his Independence Day speech delivered from the ramparts of the Red Fort, Modi noted that India's forefathers made the supreme sacrifice to win freedom for the countrymen, and it is the duty of its citizens not to accept such influx of illegal foreign nationals. 'Today I want to alert the country about a concern, a challenge. Under a well-thought-out conspiracy, the demography of the country is being changed. Seeds of a new crisis are being sown. These 'ghuspaithiya' (intruders) are snatching the livelihood of the youth of my country, these 'ghuspaithiya' are targeting the sisters and daughters of my country and this will not be tolerated. These 'ghuspaithiya' are misleading the innocent tribals and grabbing their land. This country will not tolerate this,' Modi asserted.
