Tuesday 14:30 - Queen Anne Stakes A superb renewal of the meeting's curtain-raiser, in which the form of last month's Lockinge Stakes at Newbury likely to be key. Each of the first four from that day sit at the top of the market at the time of writing, with Lead Artist (first) and Dancing Gemini (second) being joint second favourites. The first-named overturned a 13-length defeat to Dancing Gemini at Sandown the previous month when staying on well to the line and there ought to be come from both four-year-olds yet. Notable Speech won both the 2000 Guineas and the Sussex Stakes in a stellar three-year-old campaign last term and ought to build on his effort to finish fourth at Newbury, but preference is for Rosallion. Both horses have been shaping as though they are open to improvement once stepped up in trip and are respected, as is the unbeaten gelding Amiloc, who impressed when bounding clear for Listed success at Goodwood last time. Irish raider Carmers has a similar profile, but preference is Devil's Advocate. The son of Too Darn Hot has plenty of stamina in his pedigree being out of a Group 3-winning stayer and he's certainly given the impression that he will get better the further he goes in his four outings to date. He can be forgiven his reappearance run at Epsom in April when not appreciating the track and really caught the eye when a fine fourth in last month's Dante Stakes at York, when keeping on well to the line after receiving an aggressive ride. There should be more to come from him upped another half mile here and he looks a nice price at 7/1 with BetMGM to take this. Thursday 15:05 - Ascot Gold Cup The feature race of the week and one that has changed quite considerably in complexion since the retirement of last year's winner Kyprios a few weeks ago. Aidan O'Brien will be hoping that Illinois can prove to be the next in line to the throne after a fine reappearance win at Chester last month, though he feels short enough in the betting considering he's arguably yet to produce a bona fide Group 1 performance on the figures. French raider Canderali did just that when winning a top level affair at Longchamp last month and is respected for all that he might not appreciate quick ground, while Sweet William and Coltrane are highly respected regulars in this sphere. However, the way to go could be with last year's runner-up, Trawlerman. The seven-year-old is a veteran in this sphere and is proven at this track, seeing off Kyprios to win the Long Distance Cup on Champions Day back in 2023. Quicker ground isn't a problem and it didn't seem to be a lack of stamina that saw him just miss out in this 12 months ago, on his first try over the trip. He attempted to make all in this 12 months ago and an ever so slightly more patient ride may see him to better effect here, in a race that's lacking a standout contender on the figures. He looked in fine fettle when returning to winning ways at Sandown last month and looks worth backing at 16/5 with SBK to go one place better this time around. Friday 16:20 - Commonwealth Cup A fascinating renewal of the Commonwealth Cup, in which Shadow Of Light is a confident pick to collect a third career Group 1 success. The son of Lope De Vega proved to be an outstanding juvenile last term, winning both the Dewhurst and Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket in the autumn and there was plenty to like about his effort to finish third in last month's 2000 Guineas, seemingly just running out of steam late on. It's interesting that Charlie Appleby has opted to drop his charge back to sprinting on the back of that, considering that he only ran out of steam in the dying strides, hinting that he could yet have more to offer at sprint trips as a three-year-old. He's the standout performer on the figures and trading at 7/4 with bet365, he rates as a confident pick to perhaps surprisingly provide his trainer with his first winner in this race since its conception. 📅 A look at the Royal Ascot timetable for 2025 With 35 races due to be held across the five days, there is an awful lot of racing to digest at Royal Ascot. Royal Ascot Day 1 - Tuesday, June 17 The opening day starts with a bang, with no less than three Group 1 contests. Day Two's supporting card includes one of the most difficult handicap puzzles you'll find anywhere in the Royal Hunt Cup over a mile, while the three-year-olds with St Leger aspirations will be able to test their credentials in the Queen's Vase. Meanwhile, top filly Cinderella's Dream ought to take all the beating in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes. Royal Ascot Day 3 (Ladies Day) - Thursday, June 19 The third day of Royal Ascot centres around the Ascot Gold Cup, the centrepiece of the week. Run over two and a half miles, the race requires a combination of class and stamina and is wide open following the retirement of Kyprios. Fellow Aidan O'Brien in-mate Illinois will be hoping to pick up the crown, but each of Trawlerman, Sweet William and Coletrane are familiar faces with plenty of class, while French challenger Candelari adds spice. The supporting card includes the Norfolk Stakes, a Group 2 sprint for the juveniles that was won by 150/1 shot Valiant Force in 2023 and yet another fiendish handicap puzzle in the form of the Britannia Stakes over a mile. Royal Ascot Day 4 - Friday, June 20 The card for the fourth day is excellent, with two Group 1 races for the three-year-olds, the Coronation Stakes and the Commonwealth Cup. The latter has only been going since 2015 but has thrown up some top-class sprinters in that time. Last year's Middle Park and Dewhurst hero Shadow Of Light is fascinating back at six furlongs after seemingly not staying the trip in the 2000 Guineas and looks the one to beat. Last year's Coronation Stakes winner Porta Fortuna went on to establish herself as the best filly of her generation on the back of winning this and in the absence of the English and the Irish 1000 Guineas winners, the French Guineas heroine Zarigana is a strong favourite - though there are several progressive types to note in opposition. Royal Ascot Day 5 - Saturday, June 21 The fifth and final day of the Royal meeting is headlined by the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes, which has had several titles over the years to reflect the historic reign of the late Queen. French challenger Lazzat heads the market at the time of writing, though there are several to consider in an international affair, including Inisherin for the UK, Storm Boy for Ireland and Satono Reve for Japan. The Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes is regularly won by an upwardly mobile type in the middle distance division, being won by the likes of Crystal Ocean and Defoe in recent years. Meanwhile, the curtain is brought down by the Queen Alexandra Stakes over two miles and five and a half furlongs. REAL BETIS have reportedly made an offer to buy Antony from Manchester United in a rare £17million co-ownership transfer. The Brazilian winger was shipped out on loan to Spain in January after failing to impress Ruben Amorim. 1 Antony looked a different player under Manuel Pellegrini as his five goals and two assists helped Betis qualify for the Europa League. He even picked up a silver medal after finishing as a runner-up to Chelsea in the Conference League final. But Antony is now back at United after his Betis loan came to an end. The former Ajax man cost £86m to sign in 2022 but has struggled for form and is expected to depart United once again. Antony has been linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen for another reunion with Erik ten Hag. But Betis are hopeful of bringing him back to Spain. And ABC Sevilla claims club chiefs travelled to England for talks with United last week. It's reckoned that Betis proposed a rarely-seen deal that would see them pay just £17m to become theoretical co-owners of Antony. Outright co-ownership is common in European football but is banned in the Premier League. So in practice, it would see Antony join Betis for a low figure, while leaving United entitled to a high sell-on clause potentially worth 50 per cent. Alex Belfield's release from prison forces stalking victims to relive their fears
Alex Belfield was condemned as 'the Jimmy Savile of trolling' when he was jailed for a stalking campaign against broadcasters including Jeremy Vine. His victims have now spoken of their fears as the 45-year-old is released from prison, from where he has been plotting a comeback and a summer tour of self-promotion. The former BBC Radio Leeds host turned YouTuber appeared to make light of his crimes while at HMP Fosse Way in Leicestershire, describing himself on his website as a 'convicted talker' and 'political prisoner'. In fact, he was jailed for five and a half years in September 2022 for stalking four men, including Vine, who told the trial that watching Belfield's hateful output was 'like swimming in sewage'. For the former BBC Radio Leeds presenter Liz Green, one of four women subjected to a campaign of abuse by Belfield, his release on licence at the halfway point of his sentence comes just as she was beginning to move on from her decade-long ordeal. 'I wish he had stayed in for five and a half years,' the 61-year-old said as she recalled the harassment campaign that took a toll on her physical and mental health. 'I was suicidal. It made me very ill. My hair fell out. I withdrew from the world for a while. I had therapy, and I'm just about now coming out of the other end. I'm quite heavily medicated – I don't mind saying that because I think people should be open about their mental health and why it happens. It really did affect me.' In 2011, Belfield had suggested in veiled terms that Green should be sent to Auschwitz after she presented a documentary about the concentration camp. It was the start of a 10-year campaign of harassment against her, which included emails, YouTube videos and tweets. While Belfield was cleared of stalking Green, and also Helen Thomas, Rozina Breen and Stephanie Hirst, all former BBC employees, the trial judge ruled he had targeted them in 'a personal campaign of revenge', leaving them in need of psychological support. Belfield was handed an indefinite restraining order preventing him from contacting the women. Green, who lives in West Yorkshire, became frightened when, before his release, Belfield began promoting six books he had written in prison, his Voice of Reason YouTube channel, and a summer speaking tour to 'tell all and expose his side of the story'. He appeared to make light of his crimes on his website, claiming he would be performing in a pantomime jokingly dubbed Jack and the Bean Stalker in 2026. His website also featured the banner: 'Thank you for stalking – Officially a political prisoner since 2023.' The jokes which were first reported by Nottinghamshire Live have since been taken down. Green said it was ludicrous that Belfield was 'grifting' after causing so much suffering. 'I live my life because of him in a very rigid, protected way,' she said. 'It's been a good 15 years of my life. And when I say I'm coming out of it, I don't wake up depressed, I don't wake up anxious. Anxiety is the worst thing I think anybody can have. Some days I actually feel happy.' For the theatre blogger Philip Dehany, who was stalked by Belfield, the YouTuber's 'horrendous' conduct proves he is not remorseful. Dehany, 43, who is pursuing a civil claim for harassment against Belfield, said: 'I can't imagine how difficult prison would have been, but I had hoped he would want to put it all behind him. All I want to do is be able to move on. But because he's locked me into this civil case and because he's writing these books, he appears to be reluctant to move on.' Green now hopes Belfield will go on to 'live a decent, honest, quiet life' by adhering to his licence conditions, which every offender is subject to so they do not seek to gain income from their crime. 'What I am concerned about when he comes out is that it's free publicity for him to spout his shite about being an oppressed political prisoner,' she said. 'Alex's only option is to appear in silence and release 6x 500 pages completely blank to remain within the intentionally ambiguous licence conditions. I think we can all agree even Hitler would argue this is a step too far for a man who has served his sentence, who is 100% rehabilitated, signed off by psychology without a single concern, and supposedly back in society protected by human rights laws,' the homepage said before it was taken down on Wednesday. The website added that Belfield had 'endured the biggest witch-hunt in media history' and that he 'can't wait TO MAKE GREAT BRITAIN LAUGH AGAIN and return to mocking the afflicted'. Belfield emailed his supporters on 6 June saying his 'long-awaited comeback' had been postponed and that he would be refunding tickets to his tour. But it claimed copies of his autobiography, His Own Worst Enema, had already shipped. While the email did not mention his licence conditions, it said: 'There are dark forces at work behind the scenes, making it impossible for Alex to move forward as planned.' The Ministry of Justice would not comment on Belfield's licence conditions but said: 'Offenders released on licence are subject to strict conditions and can be recalled to prison immediately if they break the rules.'
