Foreign minister, Syrian counterpart discuss cooperation, reconstruction efforts
During the meeting, Safadi and Shibani reiterated the deep, longstanding ties between Jordan and Syria, emphasising their commitment to further developing cooperation across various sectors, in accordance with the directives of their respective leaderships.
The two ministers also reviewed efforts to maintain the ceasefire in Suwayda Governorate in southern Syria and discussed ways to resolve the ongoing crisis there, according to a Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement.
Safadi reiterated Jordan's steadfast support for the Syrian government's reconstruction efforts, stressing that these must be based on principles that ensure Syria's unity, security, stability, sovereignty, the protection of its territory and citizens, and the preservation of the rights of all Syrians.
He also stressed Jordan's position in supporting Syria's security, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the safety of its people, firmly rejecting any foreign interference in Syrian affairs.
Safadi underscored that Syria's security is a cornerstone of regional stability and called on all parties to respect Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The ministers jointly condemned the repeated Israeli attacks and airstrikes on Syria, describing them as flagrant violations of international law and aggression against Syrian sovereignty.
They also stressed that such actions aim to undermine Syria's security and stability, threaten the safety of its citizens, jeopardise regional peace, and violate the 1974 Disengagement Agreement between Syria and Israel.
Shibani expressed appreciation for Jordan's ongoing role and efforts in supporting Syria's reconstruction process, safeguarding its security and stability, upholding its sovereignty, and fulfilling the aspirations of the Syrian people.

Jordan condemns Israeli PM's 'greater Israel' remarks as provocative escalation
AMMAN – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has 'strongly' condemned recent statements by Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu on his commitment to the so-called 'greater Israel' vision. In a statement on Wednesday, the ministry's spokesperson Sufian Qudah voiced the Kingdom's rejection of the Israeli premier's remarks as a 'dangerous and provocative escalation', warning they pose a direct threat to regional sovereignty and violate international law and the United Nations Charter. Qudah said the Kingdom firmly rejects 'provocative and delusional rhetoric' from Israeli officials, adding that such statements would not undermine Jordan, Arab states, or the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people. 'Such reckless statements and practices reflect the deepening crisis within the Israeli government and come at a time when Israel is facing growing international isolation over its ongoing aggression in the occupied Gaza Strip and West Bank,' Qudah said. The spokesperson warned that the 'claims and illusions' promoted by extremists in the Israeli government fuel continued cycles of violence and instability in the region, urging the international community to take a firm and immediate stance, condemning the Israeli government's inflammatory rhetoric and actions. He also urged 'immediate' international action to prevent further escalation and to hold Israeli officials accountable for statements that threaten both regional stability and international peace. Netanyahu has said he feels 'very' connected to the vision of a 'greater Israel', which includes occupied Palestinian territory as well as parts of Jordan, Egypt, Syria and Lebanon. During an interview on Tuesday with i24 News, Netanyahu was presented with an amulet depicting 'a map of the so-called 'Promised Land' by interviewer. Asked by the interviewer, whether he felt connected to this vision of 'greater Israel', Netanyahu said,'Very much.' Netanyahu also described himself as being on a 'historic and spiritual mission'.

Cabinet approves tax exemptions for JFA, incentives for green hydrogen projects
AMMAN – The Cabinet has decided to exempt the Jordan Football Association (JFA) from sales tax on its revenues generated from sponsorship and marketing contracts, television broadcasting rights, and ticket sales. The exemptions were approved during a session on Wednesday, chaired by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, according to a Prime Ministry statement. The decision follows prime minister's visit to the association in July and comes in recognition of the national team's recent historic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the statement said. During his visit to JFA, Hassan announced that the government would double the association's budget starting next year to help it continue its achievements. He also said at the time that the government will support the expansion of youth football training centres across the Kingdom's governorates and make use of the infrastructure of youth centres to develop training programmes for football and other sports. The Cabinet also approved classifying donations to the JFA as tax-deductible and exempted individuals and entities contracted by the association from paying work permit fees, the statement said. The Cabinet also endorsed a set of investment incentives for green hydrogen projects located outside the Aqaba Special Economic Zone, as recommended by the Ministry of Investment. The new incentives include reducing income tax to 5 per cent, plus a 1 per cent national contribution, and full exemption from customs duties, import fees, and other taxes on all fixed assets and equipment, whether sourced locally or imported by project owners or contractors. The incentives also include exempting projects, companies, and contractors, main and sub, from general sales tax and any other taxes, according to the statement. The statement said that the incentives are expected to attract high-value investments, create both direct and indirect jobs, and advance Jordan's position as a regional hub for clean energy and green technologies, such as green ammonia production. The Cabinet also approved the financing agreement and memorandum of understanding related to the financial assistance provided to Jordan by the European Union, amounting to €500 million. This is part of a €3 billion financial aid package announced by the EU for Jordan earlier this year for the period 2025–2027, within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Jordan and the EU, which was signed by His Majesty King Abdullah at the end of January. The aid package includes €640 million in grants, €1.4 billion in investments, and around €1 billion allocated for macroeconomic support, in recognition of the Kingdom's role and strategic partnership with the EU, the statement said. The Cabinet also approved the 2025 bylaw for the Scientific Research and Innovation Support Fund. The bylaw, the statement said, aims to provide a suitable environment for scientific research through research centres and to regulate the financial, administrative, and technical aspects related to the fund.

Fayez, US Chargé d'Affaires Talk Ties, Gaza Ceasefire Efforts
Ammon News - Senate President Faisal Fayez on Wednesday met with US Chargé d'Affaires Peter Shea for a discussion of Jordanian-US relations and ways to bolster political and economic cooperation within the strategic partnership between the two countries. The meeting, attended by Deputy Senate President Suhair Al-Ali, chair of the Jordan-US Parliamentary Friendship Committee, also addressed regional developments and the need to step up international efforts, particularly by the US administration, to promote regional security and stability. It also tackled efforts to push for a ceasefire in Gaza and ensure the entry of adequate humanitarian and medical aid into the Strip. The Senate head spoke about the efforts of His Majesty King Abdullah II to resolve regional conflicts, stressing that the two-state solution, based on international legitimacy resolutions guaranteeing the Palestinian people's rights, is the only avenue to restore peace and stability and end the spiral of violence in the region. He reiterated Jordan's firm rejection of the forced displacement of Palestinians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, noting that His Majesty has repeatedly, clearly and firmly rejected any proposal to resolve the Palestinian issue at the expense of Jordan's constants and higher national interest.
