Motorists warned of major driving test shake-up plans that could benefit thousands
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) have announced potential changes.
The DVSA has announced plans for potential driving test changes which could help with exam waiting times. There are currently around 60,000 UK motorists waiting to sit their driving tests, but are being forced to wait longer than expected.
The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) are keen to gets drivers' views on the potential changes which will impact how driving tests are booked and managed.
A spokesperson for the DVSA said: "We're looking at 2 main areas: who should be allowed to book and manage driving tests and should we limit or remove the ability to change test centres and swap tests between different learners."
The DVSA hope the to make the booking system fairer for learner drivers and also to stop motorists from being charged excessive fees when booking, reports Birmingham Live.
A spokesperson for the National Associations Strategic Partnership (NASP) said: "The Driver Training industry welcomes this consultation as a key step in improving accessibility and usability of the test booking system for legitimate users, but equally, as an important step towards preventing access by those seeking to exploit learners through the illegitimate sale of test slots at extortionate prices.
'We urge pupils, parents and trainers to respond to the consultation and ensure they are part of enabling better, more efficient and fairer solutions for booking driving tests in the future."
Some 603,352 future practical driving tests were booked as of the end of April, according to analysis of Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) figures by the PA news agency.
That is up 16 per cent from 521,190 this time one year ago.
Labour Party MP Lillian Greenwood, Minister for the Future of Roads said: 'Driving isn't just about getting from A to B — it's a vital link to jobs, social opportunities, and a stronger economy, which helps to deliver our Plan for Change.
"This consultation is an important move towards giving learners more say over how and where they can book, alongside setting out options to better enable DVSA to block bots from stealing slots, so learners can get on the road without unnecessary delays.

"Working with the DVSA, we want to make driving test booking fairer, protect all learners from exploitation, and reduce lengthy waiting times."
Loveday Ruder, DVSA Chief Executive explained: 'We've been working tirelessly to bring down the driving test waiting times.
"To help tackle this, in December 2024 we announced a new plan, on which we're making good progress.
'DVSA's goal is to make booking a driving test easier and fairer for everyone while preventing excessive charges for learner drivers".

Scotland's National Fish and Chip Day comes on Friday with 500 free meals and Irn Bru being given out on in this city Scotland's National Fish and Chip Day is back this Friday, June 6, and Glasgow foodies are in for a treat. To celebrate, the team behind the Scottish Fish and Chips Awards will be handing out 500 free meals on Great Western Road, complete with a can of Irn Bru to wash it down. The giveaway kicks off from midday near Oran Mor, where Joanna's Chippy Van will be parked up and serving hot suppers on a first come, first served basis, Glasgow Live reports. It also marks the launch of the 2025 Scottish Fish and Chip Awards, with voting for Scotland's favourite chippy opening the same day at @scottishfishandchipawards. The awards are a celebration of everything that goes into making Scotland's most iconic takeaway, from fishermen and farmers to fryers and servers. And as director Warren Paul puts it, 'We wanted to do something nice, try to put a few smiles on faces in these tricky times. We're all struggling with the cost of living, so a free meal on a Friday can only be a good thing, and when it's fish and chips it's even better.' He added: 'Sometimes these National Days for different things can slip by with no one really paying attention but this one is different, it's the daddy of them all. "So we wanted to really mark Fish and Chip Day with a tasty freebie, and let readers know you can nominate and vote for your favourite chippy now in our Awards.' Paul also stressed the value of the awards when it comes to quality: 'The Fish and Chip Awards are there to give you a guarantee that your hard-earned cash will buy quality food for your family at our winners and highly recommended outlets so join in the voting this year and make sure your favourite gets a shout.' He went on to thank their partners, including Joanna's Chippy Van, for making the event possible: 'We love fish and chips, that's why we set up the Awards to honour the very best doing it, so come see us for some free food and tell us who you think does it best.' Last year's awards saw fierce competition, with restaurants and takeaways across the country battling it out for top titles. The Kraken Chippy in East Kilbride took home Best Chip Shop in the west, while Tony's Shawhead in Coatbridge was crowned Best Fish Supper in the West. Quintilani's in Larkhall walked away with Best Pizza, and Hayston Golf Club in Kirkintilloch claimed the title of Best Fish Tea. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Aldi advises customers to store eggs in the freezer
The unusual hack from the supermarket giant promises to make your eggs stay fresher and last longer. Aldi has shared a storage hack with customers that guarantees to keep their eggs fresher for longer. The budget supermarket advised shoppers who want to give their eggs a longer lifespan to pop them in the freezer. The tip may sound strange, but food waste experts believe storing eggs in minus temperatures stops them going off as quick as they would if they were kept in a fridge or at room temperature. Kate Hall, food storage expert, partnered with Aldi to share key food storing tips for shoppers in the hope of reducing food waste. Kate says to make your eggs last, shoppers should break them from the shell, then freeze them either as whites, yolks, or both mixed together. They should then mix with a sprinkle or sugar or salt before pouring it into a freezer bag and placing it in your freezer, reports the Express. kate explains: 'Using your freezer is such a simple way to press pause on your food so it doesn't end up in the bin. 'Freezing food can help our budgets stretch further, and you can actually freeze a lot more than people realise. The trick is knowing the best way to freeze food and what to do with it after freezing. 'No one wants to experience the stench of an egg past its best, so to make sure none of yours go to waste, keep them in the original box in the fridge or a cool pantry. It's important that they stay at a consistent temperature rather than in the everchanging temperatures of a home kitchen. 'And in case you're wondering, YES, you CAN freeze eggs! 'Make sure you always freeze them on or before the best before date - the fresher the better. You'll need to break them out of the shells first, but eggs can be frozen as whites, yolks (with a pinch of salt or sugar), or combined. If you're freezing the whole egg, always whisk it first as it will be far harder to mix together after defrosting. 'I like to freeze mine in usable quantities (for example two for an omelette and three for a cake), flat in a labelled freezer bag. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! 'This means I can defrost them quickly in a dish of cold water and crack on with making my dish! You can use them for whatever you fancy (as long as they're cooked through), they're just perfect once they're cooked!' Luke Emery, National Sustainability Director at Aldi UK, said: 'At Aldi, we're committed to reducing food waste wherever we can across our supply chain, whether that be working with suppliers to cut down on waste, or marking down prices of items nearing their sell by date. 'Now we're on a mission to help shoppers minimise their food waste too, while getting even more value from their Aldi groceries at the same time. It seems simple, but the research shows that freezing items still isn't something many do – so we want to showcase just how easy that can be.'

Viral 'super' serum that 'blurs wrinkles' cut to lowest ever price on Amazon
This powerhouse serum was once dubbed 'the cult beauty product of 2024.' The world of skincare is bigger than ever these days. Whether it be wrinkles, pigmentation or anti-ageing, we all have the areas we'd like to target more than others. Looking to target multiple in one go? Then enter the Olay Super Serum, the first of its kind, as it offers five different skincare benefits in just one bottle - and it's at its cheapest ever price on Amazon. The beauty brand's "miracle" serum first made waves when it debuted in the USA in 2023. After officially going available in the UK last year, it quickly earned the title as "the cult beauty product of 2024." While it's certainly popular, it can be quite pricey at £39.99 for a small 30ml bottle. Fortunately, Amazon has knocked 55 percent off the price, taking it to just £18.14, the cheapest it has ever been available to buy for. Not only is this the cheapest price we have spotted Amazon selling it for, as it's currently the lowest price on the entire high street, with Boots and Superdrug stocking it at full-price, while Ocado has it for £20. A unique addition to the skincare market, this powerhouse serum has been infused with the five ingredients - niacinamide, vitamin C, collagen peptides, vitamin E and AHA lactic acid. This means that it provides five benefits in just one bottle that include brightening, firming, toning, hydrating and much more. Considering it's the only serum on the market to do so, it's understandable why it's still hugely popular. It boasts a colour-changing soft purple iridescence, providing the skin with that 'barely-there' natural radiance. It's so popular that the brand claims that it "quickly became a viral sensation, with one bottle sold every minute." While no other option on the market offers as many benefits in one bottle, the popular L'Oréal Paris Age Perfect Serum Le Duo (30ml), £37.99 at Boots, harnesses the power of two serums to target firmness, wrinkles and radiance. Meanwhile, celebrity-backed brand Medik8 has just launched its brand new C-Tetra Advanced (30ml), a brightening and anti-ageing serum that boasts vitamin C, vitamin E and hyaluronic acid for £69. Skincare enthusiasts will be all too aware of the reputation the Olay Super Serum has managed to garner over the past year, as it has earned a 4.4 rating from users who say it is a "minor miracle" and that it works "like magic". Although, another positive review read: "This stuff is like magic. It makes your skin so soft! I'm not a girly girl, I don't use tons of make up, I'm not incredibly interested in skin care - but ONE experience with this stuff and I'm never living without it.
