KUCHING (July 25): The upcoming 50th anniversary celebration of legendary soft rock duo, 'Air Supply', set for September, marks another milestone in Sarawak's growing prominence as a premier destination for international live events.
Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, in officially launching the concert today, highlighted its potential of attracting regional visitors and contributing to the state's tourism economy.
'There will be many who will be coming in, not just from Kuching, but also from Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, and from Peninsular Malaysia,' he said during the launch at The Spring Mall here.
Organised by Twig Events Sdn Bhd, the concert is set to be staged at the Sarawak Blessed Church (SBC) Hall here, this Sept 24, with the curtain-raiser at 8pm.
Abdul Karim also noted that increased air connectivity, including the launch of the Pontianak to Kuching route on Sept 12 and existing daily flights from Jakarta and Singapore, should help drive international attendance.
He further emphasised the wider economic ripple effects, benefitting Sarawak's hospitality and tourism sectors, and thus, he called for the development of more suitable concert venues across the state.
The minister also expressed hope that the state government would invest in larger hosting venues, especially in view of the ongoing construction of the new Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) 2.
'The existing BCCK can only accommodate a 5,000-strong crowd, but the new venue will be able to accommodate almost 10,000 people. Once completed, it will attract even bigger acts,' he said.
Twig Events Sdn Bhd director Deborah Tai, meanwhile, said the concerts would be a special experience for Malaysian fans.
'Air Supply has a timeless appeal across all age groups.
'In their 50th anniversary tour, we saw the opportunity to bring something iconic and emotional to Sarawak – a once-in-a-lifetime chance for fans to experience them performing live.'
Following Air Supply's concert, Mandapop star Ding Dang is scheduled to perform at Stadium Perpaduan here this Oct 11.
'It's really exciting to see so many artistes showing interest in performing in this beautiful state called Sarawak,' said Deborah.
Tickets for both concerts are available for purchase at The Spring Mall, until tomorrow (July 27), with the sales being conducted at the Starbucks entrance between 10am and 10pm daily.
Also present at the press conference were the deputy ministers Datuk Snowdan Lawan and Datuk Sebastian Ting; the ministry's permanent secretary Datu Sherrina Hussaini; deputy state secretary Datu Hii Chang Kee, and Twig Events director Samuel Tai. Air Supply concert Kuching lead tourism

Fasha Sandha & Nur Sajat Reunite In Singapore After Attending Siti Nurhaliza's Concert

Over the weekend, Biduanita Negara Dato Sri Siti Nurhaliza held a concert in Singapore, where a few familiar faces from Malaysia attended the show. Most people would expect Malaysian and Singaporean stars would meet up before or after the performance to catch up, but many were surprised when the icon acknowledged celebrity entrepreneur Nur Sajat in the audience. She thanked the model for attending her show, having flown all the way from Australia. It turns out, Siti wasn't the only one who greeted the business owner, as actress Fasha Sandha also shared that she met up with her old friend after the concert. Here's what went down: Yesterday (Sunday, 27th July), actress Fasha Sandha posted a carousel of photos and videos on Instagram, sharing moments from her meetup with Nur Sajat. She expressed how impressed she was by the model's star power, so much so that even the icon Siti Nurhaliza acknowledged her presence during the concert. 'I bet everyone misses Sajat, right? Let us pray that she'll continue to succeed. We have no right to judge others, as everyone is going through their own journey. All we can do is pray for the best for them,' she wrote in the caption. Sajat responded to the post, saying their reunion was long overdue and thanked Fasha for being a supportive friend. 'After four years, we finally saw each other again. Thank you, @fashasandha, for the moments yesterday that I will forever treasure. Although we're far apart, we remain good friends. You're such a beautiful soul. May you and your family always be blessed,' the entrepreneur wrote. It's clear that Sajat had a good time in Singapore. Not only did she manage to catch up with an old friend and attend Siti Nurhaliza's concert, but she also got to take a photo with the legendary singer backstage after the show! Maybe one day, she'll get to go home without any legal consequences. Indonesian showcase Latihan Pestapora Malaysia lights up Bukit Jalil with rhythm, unity, and nostalgia

The Bukit Jalil National Stadium roared with thousands of music enthusiasts from across Malaysia and Indonesia at 'Latihan Pestapora Malaysia 2025' — a mega music festival co-organised by renowned event management label, Hitman Solutions and Boss Creator, held this weekend. Conceptualised as a 'latihan' or 'training ground' ahead of Pestapora that is taking place in Jakarta from 5-7th September 2025, this milestone event made history as a collaborative platform bringing together celebrated Malaysian and Indonesian artists. Featuring over 25 live acts across two grand stages, the festival showcased the rich variety of regional music genres that are fast gaining international recognition. The Long-Awaited Return – Sheila On 7 The most anticipated moment during the festival was undoubtedly the long-awaited return of Sheila On 7, performing in Malaysia for the first time in over a decade. The crowd erupted in song and emotion as the legendary band from Yogyakarta delivered a lineup of timeless hits, including "Dan, Melompat Lebih Tinggi, Sephia, Kita, Sahabat Sejati", and more. The thunderous cheers that accompanied the opening chords of their first song were proof of the unwavering loyalty and love Malaysian fans still hold for the band. A Star-Studded Festival-Grade Line-Up Latihan Pestapora Malaysia 2025 brought together an exciting mix of Malaysian and Indonesian acts, cutting across genres like pop, rock, hip-hop, indie, and dangdut — creating one of the most inclusive and diverse music events of the year. Over 25 performances took place across two main stages, the Main Stage and the other called 'Hingar Bingar' featuring: .Feast, Hindia, Nadin Amizah, Barasuara X Efek Rumah Kaca, Bittersweet, Bunkface, Dolla, Pamungkas, Feel Koplo, Kunto Aji, Salammusik, Sheila on 7, Alvn, Aziz Harun, DJ CZA, Dukes, Elva Suyan, Fahimi, Empty Page, Gaston Pong, Ismail Izzani, Julia Duclos, Killa Driz, Lil J, Naki, Sonaone, and Yonnyboii. Organisers' Commitment & Vision According to Rohit Rampal, CEO of Hitman Solutions, the success of this event proves Malaysia is more than capable of hosting large-scale international music festivals: "Bringing Latihan Pestapora to Malaysia is a major milestone. It's not just a production achievement but a cultural success. "We've successfully brought an international festival IP to Malaysia, giving both local and international fans a chance to experience it on home soil." He added that although coordinating the needs of over 25 regional and international artists came with its own set of challenges, they were overcome thanks to close teamwork and strong strategic partnerships. Meanwhile, Kiki Ucup, Festival Director of Pestapora & Co-founder of Boss Creator, described the festival as an important cultural movement: "We've seen how Malaysian fans travel to Jakarta every year for Pestapora. "Now it's time we bring that 'latihan' experience here, so Malaysians can feel the magic too. This is more than a concert — it's about building community and regional solidarity." The Uniqueness Of 'Latihan Pestapora Malaysia 2025' While preserving the original spirit and concept of Jakarta's Pestapora, the Malaysian edition added its own unique touch — a platform for rising and alternative local acts, a curated selection of Malaysian food vendors, interactive activities, and insta-worthy zones designed for audiences of all ages. Latihan Pestapora Malaysia -- Future Annual Festival In Malaysia Given the overwhelming turnout and glowing feedback from fans and media, the organisers have expressed strong intentions to make Latihan Pestapora Malaysia an annual event. "We believe this is just the beginning. With such incredible support, we're excited to scale up and create even more opportunities for cross-cultural collaboration," said Rohit. "Latihan Pestapora Malaysia 2025 was not just a music festival — it was a cultural movement uniting music, spirit, and identity between two brotherly nations. With thousands of passionate fans in attendance, the event proved Malaysia is ready to become a regional hub for world-class music festivals."
