Legendary Motown musician Smokey Robinson faces allegations of sexual assault from housekeepers who sued him on Tuesday for $50 million.
Film and television star Michael Pitt has been arrested on sexual abuse charges.
The "Boardwalk Empire" star was arrested on May 2, a clerk for the Kings Supreme Criminal Court in Brooklyn, New York, confirmed. He was then arraigned on charges of sexual abuse, assault, and strangulation, according to court documents reviewed May 7 by USA TODAY.
The charges stem from a series of alleged incidents between 2020 and 2021, in which Pitt is accused of subjecting a woman to unwanted touching, nonconsensual oral sex, strangulation and several physical assaults using a four-by-four plank and a cinderblock.
Pitt, who was released on a $100,000 bail, has pleaded not guilty.
"Unfortunately, we live in a world where somebody like Mr. Pitt — an accomplished professional who would never so much as contemplate these crimes — can be arrested on the uncorroborated word of an unhinged individual," Jason Goldman, an attorney for Pitt said in a statement May 7.
"In reality, this baseless claim is suspiciously raised some four or five years after the alleged incident, at a time when the two parties were in a completely consensual and voluntary relationship," he continued. "This case will be dismissed."
A multi-hyphenate, Pitt has dabbled in music, modeling and acting, rising to acclaim in the early 2000s with roles in "Hedwig and the Angry Inch," "The Dreamers" and "Murder by Numbers."
This does not represent his first run-in with the law. Pitt was also arrested and charged in 2022 for assault and larceny after allegedly hitting a man multiple times and stealing his phone. That same year, he was hospitalized after allegedly tossing items down at people from a rooftop, according to Variety and Rolling Stone.

'There is a very intense amount of energy we're sharing in this room,' she said during a post-screening chat with the audience, which included a Cyrus-led singalong of her 2009 hit, 'The Climb.' Intensity reigned throughout the 13 clips, with Cyrus donning fashion both sophisticated and sleek, dancing in fishnets and dispatching an industrial wind machine for added visual zip. She's the Pied Piper of feral emotions, slightly dangerous but a lot of fun, her penetrating gaze daring you to see what awaits. 'There's nothing more beautiful on the planet than deep emotion,' Cyrus said during her talkback. The 'Something Beautiful' record is inspired by Pink Floyd's 'The Wall' – a concept album connected to special memories with one of her brothers, she tells USA TODAY on the red carpet – and Cyrus' videos unfold with a loose connection that is all about feeling, much like the most memorable selections in the concept album annals. There isn't any filler in Cyrus' album or visual companion, which she said took about two weeks to shoot, and from the pink clouds and sunsets of "Golden Burning Sun" to the blue-gray shading of the Madonna-esque "Reborn," creativity dominates. These are the standouts. 'More to Lose' As the sparkly pop bounce of 'End of the World' fades into a screen of white light, a close-up image of Cyrus comes into view. The beaded headwear is the focal point until the camera pushes in even closer to Cyrus' perfectly shaded cheekbones, a most intimate angle for a most intimate song. 'Walk of Fame' The most compelling track on an album full of soaring choruses now has an equally absorbing video. In a world of neon, glitter and stiletto boots, Cyrus writhes against walls and struts down sidewalks, notably the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The song is an irresistible club banger with a throbbing chorus and Cyrus adeptly matches the mood of seedy and glam. She is visually arresting as she rolls around the ground, her eyes never losing the camera. Cuts to song guest Brittany Howard as she vocalizes add a flourish of drama, but nothing extra is needed with Cyrus as the subject. The clip was filmed at 2 a.m. on a street that hadn't seen much cleanup – 'We had everything we needed … besides a broom,' she joked at the screening – and consequently led to Cyrus contracting an infection. 'Every Girl You've Ever Loved' Cyrus strides through empty rooms followed by the galloping beat of the song. She cuts a powerful image singing in the shadows of her favorite toy, the industrial fan, while showcasing staccato movements. But her steely gaze betrays a mischievous flicker. Then model Naomi Campbell arrives for her feature on the song and she and Cyrus engage in a sexy-tough duet. Boulder firebombing suspect charged with hate crime in federal court Show Caption Hide Caption Authorities charged alleged Boulder attacker with attempted murder Authorities formally charged Mohamed Sabry Soliman with 118 criminal counts including dozens of attempted murder charges. The suspect in a Boulder, Colorado, attack on a gathering to support Israeli hostages in Gaza made an initial appearance on June 6 in federal court where he was formally charged with a hate crime. Mohamed Sabry Soliman, 45, is accused of targeting the group at a pedestrian mall with Molotov cocktails and a makeshift flamethrower on June 1, according to a criminal complaint. He threw the makeshift firebombs at the Jewish demonstrators while he was shouting "Free Palestine," according to federal court filings detailing the suspected hate crime. Officials said 15 people between the ages of 25 and 88 were injured with burns. A judge ordered Soliman back in court on June 18 for a hearing where prosecutors will begin presenting evidence, according to court filings. Soliman appeared in court with an Arabic translator. Soliman, an Egyptian native who authorities said overstayed a tourist visa to the United States, also appeared in a state courtroom on June 5, where he was charged with another 118 criminal counts, including attempted murder, using explosive devices, attempting to use an incendiary device, assault on someone over the age of 70 and other charges. He's expected back in court for the state charges in July. Attorney General Pam Bondi said the attack was antisemitic. In a federal criminal complaint, authorities said Soliman admitted to investigators that "he wanted to kill all Zionist people" and wanted to stop them from taking over "our land," referring to Palestine. The federal hate crime charge could carry a sentence of up to life in prison if he is convicted. USA TODAY has reached out to Soliman's defense attorney for comment. The attack happened the afternoon of June 1 at the Pearl Street Mall in downtown Boulder. The group Run for Their Lives was holding a weekly demonstration advocating for the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza since the Oct. 7, 2023, attack by Hamas militants. Soliman, who told investigators he'd been planning the attack for a year, threw two lit Molotov cocktails into the crowd while yelling 'Free Palestine,' the federal criminal complaint said. When he was taken into custody, authorities found an additional 16 Molotov cocktails and a weed sprayer with gasoline. "As a result of these preliminary attacks, it is clear that this is a targeted act of violence and the FBI is investigating this as an act of terrorism," Mark Michalek, special agent in charge at the FBI's Denver field office, said after the attack. The injured victims had burns that ranged from minor to serious. Three were still hospitalized, Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty said on June 5. Who is the suspect, Mohamed Soliman? Soliman, who lived in El Paso County, Colorado, has worked as an Uber driver and has five children. He told investigators that he waited for his daughter to graduate from high school before executing his planned attack, the criminal complaint said. Soliman entered the United States in August 2022 on a B-2 tourist visa that expired over two years ago, Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said. An affidavit said he was born in Egypt and lived in Kuwait for 17 years before moving to Colorado. McLaughlin said Soliman applied for asylum in September 2022. He tried to purchase a gun but opted to use the incendiary devices instead when he realized he couldn't buy a gun legally because of his citizenship status, according to the court records. He also said he learned how to make the Molotov cocktails online. Soliman told law enforcement he left an iPhone at the house, hidden in a desk drawer, with messages to his family. He also left behind a journal, the criminal complaint said. Family faces possible deportation Soliman's wife and five children were detained by immigration officials after his arrest and faced immediate deportation, Trump administration officials said. A federal judge temporarily blocked them from being deported on June 4. U.S. District Court Judge Gordon Gallagher said deporting the family without adequate process could cause "irreparable harm." FBI and police officials said the family has cooperated with investigators, and Soliman said his family had no knowledge of his plans. The visas of his wife and five children have been revoked, multiple media outlets including the New York Times reported. His daughter Habiba Soliman graduated from high school on May 29 and said she hoped to attend medical school. Her father told investigators he waited until after her graduation to carry out the attack.
