Chicago Sky Make Angel Reese Move After Kamilla Cardoso News
Chicago Sky Make Angel Reese Move After Kamilla Cardoso News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Chicago Sky endured an 0-4 start to the 2025 WNBA season, but they won two straight games ahead of the Commissioner's Cup. Advertisement After double-digit losses to the Indiana Fever, New York Liberty and Los Angeles Sparks in the opening week, they rebounded with a close loss to the 5-3 Phoenix Mercury and consecutive victories against the Dallas Wings. Second-year center Kamilla Cardoso has been contributing 11.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game for the Sky, including a career-high 23 points in the team's first win of the season. Unfortunately for Chicago, Cardoso was included in Brazil's AmeriCup roster, which means that she could miss time this season (via Roberta F. Rodrigues of The Next). Chicago Sky guard Rebecca Allen (9), guard Ariel Atkins (7), guard Courtney Vandersloot (22), center Kamilla Cardoso (10), and forward Angel Reese (5).Patrick Gorski-Imagn Images Fellow 2024 first-round draftee and WNBA All-Star forward Angel Reese has gotten off to a rough start in 2025, but she is still averaging 10.0 points and a league-leading 12.3 rebounds per game. Advertisement Reese typically plays the power forward position alongside Cardoso, who plays center. However, the Sky made a move in practice on Thursday to get Reese reps at the five with Cardoso watching from the sidelines. "Also have Rebecca Allen in with the starters instead of Kamilla Cardoso, leading Angel to playing the 5," Sky reporter Karli Bell wrote. Cardoso did not participate in the portion of practice that was open to the media. While it was initially unclear if that was planned in order to get some practice reps in preparation for her eventual absence, it was revealed by head coach Tyler Marsh that Cardoso is day-to-day with shoulder soreness (via Chicago State of Mind Sports). Advertisement The Sky host the Fever on Saturday at United Center in Chicago to kick off their slate of Commissioner's Cup games. Chicago will look to avenge its 93-58 loss on opening day. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. EST. Mets Predicted to Trade for $50 Million Outfielder After Juan Soto News
Mets Predicted to Trade for $50 Million Outfielder After Juan Soto News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Few would fault a manager for sitting down with a hitter mired in a 7-for-59 slump, even if that hitter is an All-Star with a 15-year, $765 million contract. Advertisement At least for now, New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza and superstar outfielder Juan Soto aren't at that place yet. Mendoza told reporters ahead of Friday's 4-2 victory over the lowly Colorado Rockies that he hasn't felt he and Soto need to talk privately. 'He knows he's in a good place,' Mendoza said, shortly before Soto snapped an 0-for-17 streak. '[I] treat him the same way I treat the other guys, too.' Soto became one of the guys last December, and Chicago White Sox outfielder Luis Robert Jr. might be next. Chicago White Sox center fielder Luis Robert Krzaczynski-Imagn Images Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller proposed the Mets pursue Robert, a 2023 All-Star in the final guaranteed season of a six-year, $50 million contract. Any team that acquires Robert can keep him through 2027 via two $20 million club options. Advertisement Robert, who turns 28 in August, entered Saturday hitting .187 with five home runs, 20 RBI, and a league-high 21 stolen bases. However, his .578 OPS is easily a career-worst, and he's hit just .212 with a 204-51 K-BB ratio across the last two years. '[C]enter fielders worth anything close to a darn aren't exactly growing on trees and readily available at the trade deadline,' Miller wrote. Indeed, Robert would almost certainly man center field—the only position he's played since his 2020 debut—if the Mets acquired him. Mendoza has primarily started Jose Siri and Tyrone Taylor in center. Although Robert is an upgrade over those two, his continued offensive regression is nonetheless concerning. It's also unclear how aggressive the White Sox will be when discussing a return package, especially with a win-now team like the Mets. Advertisement Robert went 1-for-5 with a stolen base against the Mets earlier this week. We'll see if he joins Soto in calling Citi Field home before the summer ends. Dolphins Facing CB Battle Amid Jalen Ramsey News
Dolphins Facing CB Battle Amid Jalen Ramsey News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Heading into the offseason, every team has positional needs, and additions are made and departures occur. That leads to the positional battles in OTAs and minicamp to determine who will get the job, or at least temporarily, in the new season. Advertisement One of the most intriguing position battles for the Dolphins this offseason is the cornerback competition. The Dolphins will look to replace Kendall Fuller, who was released in February after playing his first season with the team, and Jaylen Ramsey, who is likely to be traded at some point this offseason. Both players were top 10 tacklers for the Dolphins in 2024. Ramsey had two interceptions, and Fuller had a forced fumble. Miami Dolphins cornerback Storm Duck (36) works out during mandatory minicamp at Baptist Health Training Navarro-Imagn Images The leading candidates to replace the duo are Storm Duck and Cam Smith. Duck is a second-year defensive back out of Louisville. As a rookie in 2024, he appeared in 14 games and made three starts, recording 34 total tackles, one tackle for loss, and four passes defended. Advertisement Before transferring to Louisville for his final collegiate season, Duck spent four years at North Carolina. He finished his college career with 135 tackles, 24 passes defended, five interceptions, and five tackles for loss. Smith was the Dolphins' second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of South Carolina. He will be entering his third season in the NFL with 21 games of experience. In college, Smith had an impressive final two years, combining for 91 tackles, 18 passes defended, and four interceptions. The Dolphins are looking for a big step forward from Smith in 2025 to hold down one of the two cornerback spots. Advertisement Miami is also giving looks to Jason Marshall, Ethan Bonner, and Isaiah Johnson. Marshal was the Dolphins' fifth-round draft pick, and Bonner and Johnson are former undrafted free agents. Marshall was a four-year starter at Florida, collecting 98 tackles, eight TFLs, 25 passes defended, and two interceptions. Bonner has impressed coaches and reporters at OTAs, earning the orange jersey one day for being the best player from the previous day. Dolphins third-year cornerback and likely nickel back starter called Bonner and Duck "ballers" after they earned back-to-back orange jerseys last week. There's still plenty of offseason to go, but it seems like Duck and Smith are the leaders to win the two open cornerback spots. But don't count out Bonner or the other rookies from earning some playing time.
