"The Indian government has already said that it is will willing to provide visas to Pakistani players but if they don't want to come to India, it's not our problem. Bangladesh has already been invited to participate in case Pakistan doesn't come but we will have to wait for two more days to get the confirmation," the HI official said when quizzed about the situation. "Neither Pakistan or Bangladesh have confirmed anything to us till now. But Bangladesh are likely replacement for Pakistan," he added. Pakistan's participation in the Asia Cup -- a qualifying tournament for the 2026 World Cup -- was uncertain after the military confrontation with India following the Pahalgam terror attack. India had launched Operation Sindoor to destroy terror infrastructure in Pakistan after the terror attack that killed 26 people. PHF had suggested that the tournament be moved out of India to another venue. Besides hosts India, the other participating teams in the Asia Cup are China, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Oman and Chinese Taipei. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Bangladesh To Step In For Pakistan At 2025 Hockey Asia Cup: Report
Bangladesh men's hockey team is all set to replace Pakistan in the Asia Cup in Rajgir. The Bangladesh men's hockey team is all set to replace Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup, with the latter's participation still in doubt, with just nine days left for the tournament to begin in Rajgir, according to a report in PTI. This will be the 12th edition of the tournament and the third time that India is hosting it. The Indian government had already said that it would provide visas to the Pakistan players for the tournament, but the Pakistan Hockey Federation has refused to travel, citing security concerns. The organisers have already approached Bangladesh to fill Pakistan's place in the eight-team event, but Hockey India said that the exact scenario will be clear in the next two days. 'The Indian government has already said that it is willing to provide visas to Pakistani players, but if they don't want to come to India, it's not our problem. Bangladesh has already been invited to participate in the case Pakistan doesn't come, but we will have to wait for two more days to get the confirmation," a Hockey India official told PTI. 'Neither Pakistan nor Bangladesh have confirmed anything to us till now. But Bangladesh are likely a replacement for Pakistan," the official added. Pakistan's participation in the Asia Cup, a qualifying tournament for next year's World Cup, was uncertain after the military confrontation with India following the Pahalgam terror attack in April. Pakistan Hockey Federation had earlier suggested that the Asia Cup be moved out of India to another venue, but it wasn't heard. Besides host India, the other participating sides in the Asia Cup are China, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, Oman and Chinese Taipei. Pakistan won the Asia Cup thrice, completing a hat-trick of wins, in the first three editions of the tournament, in 1982, 1985 and 1989. They finished runners-up in 1989, 2003 and 2009. In the last edition of the tournament in 2022 in Jakarta, Pakistan won, drew and lost one match apiece to finish third in their pool and couldn't qualify for the semifinals. But in a good display of might, drew 1-1 against arch-rivals India. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive. National-level triple jumper latest to be caught in dope net
Agency: New Delhi, Aug 18 (PTI) A woman triple jumper, who has won multiple national-level medals and even represented the country internationally, has been suspended by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) after testing positive for a prohibited substance. The jumper, who is in her 30s, had also competed in the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023, a source in the Athletics Federation of India told PTI. The athlete's identity is being withheld for now. Also not clear at this point is the banned substance for which she tested positive. The latest failed test continues the alarmingly regular dope setbacks for India's athletes. On August 11, National Games gold-winning discus thrower Gagandeep Singh was among a bunch of athletes across sports who were handed three-year bans by NADA after they accepted their offence within 20 days of being charged. Representing Services, Singh had won gold in men's discus with a best throw of 55.01m at the Uttarakhand National Games on February 12. He later tested positive for testosterone metabolites and was handed provisional suspension. As per the 2023 testing figures released by the World Anti-Doping Agency, India's positivity rate for banned substances stood at 3.8 per cent — 214 Adverse Analytical Findings (AAF) from 5606 samples. Of the 5606 tests, 2748 were conducted in-competition. India's positivity rate for banned substances is significantly higher than China, USA , France , Germany and Russia. All these countries have a positivity rate of one per cent or lower. As per WADA numbers, athletics leads the number of India's positive cases with 61 AAFs from 1223 samples.
