Crestview High School teacher arrested for alleged sexual relationship with student in early 2000s
Timothy John Sexton, 58, a current teacher at Crestview High School and former teacher at Pryor Middle School, was taken into custody Tuesday morning at his home in Holt. The arrest was carried out by the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) and the U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task Force.
According to the OCSO, Sexton is accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with a female student between April 2001 and July 2005. Investigators say the relationship began when the victim was 14 years old and continued until she was 17.
Sexton faces charges of sexual battery by a person in custodial authority and sexual battery involving a victim between the ages of 12 and 18. He is currently being held at the Okaloosa County Jail without bond.
The investigation began in late March 2025 after the sheriff's office and the Okaloosa County School District received a tip through the FortifyFL app, a platform designed to report suspicious activity in Florida schools. Interviews with the victim and other witnesses ultimately led investigators to establish probable cause for Sexton's arrest.
'There is no expiration date on seeking justice for victims,' Sheriff Eric Aden said in a statement. 'This arrest underscores our unwavering commitment to pursuing the truth, no matter how much time has passed. We are proud of the work done by our investigators and encourage anyone who has been a victim to come forward.'
The Okaloosa County School District confirmed Sexton had been placed on administrative leave following the initial report and will now be recommended for suspension without pay pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings.
'Our teachers are held to the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and integrity when it comes to the safety and well-being of our students,' Superintendent Marcus Chambers said in a statement. 'Despite the significant time that has passed, if the allegations against this employee are substantiated, we will respond swiftly and appropriately. This is a zero-tolerance issue.'
The school district said it had immediately notified the Florida Department of Children and Families and the sheriff's office upon receiving the FortifyFL report.
No additional details about the victim are being released due to the nature of the charges.

Florida man arrested after beating up golfer over slow play, deputies say

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - A Florida man has been arrested after he allegedly beat up another man on a golf course after the man was playing too slow. What happened? What we know According to an arrest warrant, Jason Hughes attacked a golfer on a course in Kissimmee in June. Hughes told Osceola County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) deputies that he was upset with the pace of the man's play. The man reported he and Hughes exchanged words on the course. According to the warrant, the man was playing with a friend in front of Hughes. Hughes said he told the man more than once to hurry up. The warrant stated the boiling point for Hughes was the man talking to his friend while ahead on the green. The report said both men were separated by their playing partners. Hughes and his playing partner got in their golf cart and took it to their car in the lot. They then drove off before deputies arrived. Deputies said they found the man to be bleeding and bruised when they arrived. The man declined an ambulance to the hospital, but was driven by a friend instead. Officials tracked Hughes down with the help of the golf course. The club provided deputies with surveillance video of Hughes and gave them his name based on the credit card used to make the reservation. Hughes was booked into the Osceola County Jail on Thursday. He is being charged with aggravated battery causing bodily harm. Hughes made his first appearance on Friday, and a judge set his bond at $2,500. One condition of his bond is that he cannot play golf on any course open to the public. Frisco ISD subpoenaed for student names, records in connection to Karmelo Anthony case
The Frisco Independent School District has been subpoenaed to provide the names of students who were present during the deadly stabbing at a track meet at Kuykendall Stadium on April 2, a spokesperson confirmed with CBS News Texas. The subpoena is in connection to the case of The State of Texas vs Karmelo Anthony, the student accused of fatally stabbing Austin Metcalf, another student at the track meet. The school district notified parents via letter on July 24, as identifying information of students is protected from release without parental consent under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) except when a school is required to release that information under a subpoena. It is not clear how many students were present at the track meet. Anthony, who is facing a first-degree murder charge, has been on house arrest since being released on a reduced bond on April 14. If convicted, Anthony could face a possible sentence of 5-99 years or life in prison. He was indicted for murder by a Collin County grand jury in June. A Collin County judge has set a trial date of June 1, 2026 for Anthony.
