Airbus expands helicopter training academy, adding third flight simulator in Subang

LANGKAWI — Airbus is reinforcing its commitment to aviation safety with the expansion of the Airbus Helicopters Training Academy in Malaysia, and the addition of a third full-flight simulator (FFS) in Subang, Selangor.
According to Airbus Helicopters, the expansion, set to be operational in the second half of 2026, will support the growing training needs in the region, demonstrating Airbus' commitment to customer proximity.
Executive vice-president, customer support and services, Romain Trapp said this latest investment underscores Airbus Helicopters' dedication to aviation safety and customer proximity.
'By expanding our training capabilities in Malaysia, we are ensuring that pilots and mechanics in Asia-Pacific have access to world-class facilities designed to enhance safety and readiness,' he said in a statement in conjunction with the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) 2025 exhibition.
The new H175 simulator — the first of its kind outside Europe — joins existing H225 and AS365 simulators, offering an advanced learning experience with digitised classrooms and virtual trainers.
These expanded capabilities will support pilot type rating, recurrent training, and mission training, ensuring operational proficiency for critical flight scenarios.
To date, Airbus Helicopters' simulator centre in Malaysia has provided over 21,000 training hours to 2,600 pilots.
With the new H175 FFS, the company is poised to increase its capacity to an additional 2,000 to 3,000 training hours per year and further contribute to the region's aviation safety.
Meanwhile, the expanded training centre will offer cutting-edge simulation technology, including Level D training capabilities, the latest Helionix avionics system and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) data packages that ensure an accurate reproduction of helicopter performance, all aimed at elevating pilot proficiency and operational safety. — BERNAMA

KUCHING (June 6): Sarawak reaffirmed its position as Southeast Asia's clean energy leader during the Energy Export Conference (EEC) 2025 held in Aberdeen, United Kingdom yesterday. Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni unveiled a bold vision for Sarawak's energy future, said a statement issued by his office. 'The state is also advancing regional power exports to West Kalimantan, Brunei, Sabah and soon Singapore, cementing its role as the 'Battery of ASEAN',' he added. Sarawak leads Malaysia in natural gas reserves and CCS potential and is pioneering hydrogen development with flagship projects and dedicated legislation to attract global investors, said the statement. Deputy State Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidi highlighted the importance of global platforms like EEC in building resilient energy ecosystems. 'Our presence here in Aberdeen is a statement of intent. Sarawak is open for business, open for innovation, and ready to lead in clean energy exports,' he remarked. 'Supported by comprehensive policies and strategic roadmaps, Sarawak's clean energy initiatives are unlocking new investment opportunities and creating high-value jobs for a sustainable future. 'With international recognition from the World Economic Forum and upcoming events such as International Energy Week 2025 and SAREF 4.0, Sarawak is inviting global partners to join its journey toward a sustainable and inclusive energy future,' it added. clean energy Dr Hazland Abang Hipni Energy Export Conference sustainability

PM expresses appreciation, applauds successful organisation of LIMA'25, ASEAN Summits

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his heartfelt appreciation to all parties involved in the successful organisation of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition 2025 (LIMA'25) and the 46th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits last month. Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, who is also MADANI Government spokesperson, said Anwar conveyed the appreciation message during today's Cabinet meeting, describing both events as historic milestones for Malaysia. 'The Prime Minister deeply values the efforts of all personnel and teams involved in organising LIMA'25 in Langkawi, as well as the ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, at the end of May. 'Most heads of state and government leaders expressed their satisfaction with the warm hospitality and thorough preparations by Malaysia as the host,' Fahmi said at his weekly press conference. Fahmi said that the Prime Minister is currently considering appropriate forms of recognition to honour the dedication and commitment shown by all parties involved, with a formal announcement to be made in due course. 'Insya-Allah, several options are being considered, and we leave it to the Prime Minister to make the official announcement,' he said. LIMA'25 in Langkawi gathered 860 exhibitors from 24 countries, comprising 426 international and 434 local companies. Themed 'Today's Innovation, Tomorrow's Achievements', this year's edition was the largest maritime and aerospace exhibition in Southeast Asia since LIMA's inception in 1991. In Kuala Lumpur, apart from the 46th ASEAN Summit, two high-level meetings were also successfully held last month, namely the ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and the first ASEAN-GCC-China Summit. The inaugural trilateral summit between ASEAN, GCC and China, which was also attended by Chinese Premier Li Qiang, not only marked a new chapter of strategic ties but also showcased Malaysia's commitment to enhancing regional economic cooperation. The GCC comprises Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Fahmi noted that the successful organisation of LIMA'25 and the 46th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits forms a strong foundation for Malaysia's hosting of the 47th ASEAN Summit in October under its 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship theme 'Inclusivity and Sustainability'.
