PM expresses appreciation, applauds successful organisation of LIMA'25, ASEAN Summits
Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, who is also MADANI Government spokesperson, said Anwar conveyed the appreciation message during today's Cabinet meeting, describing both events as historic milestones for Malaysia.
'The Prime Minister deeply values the efforts of all personnel and teams involved in organising LIMA'25 in Langkawi, as well as the ASEAN Summit and Related Summits in Kuala Lumpur, at the end of May.
'Most heads of state and government leaders expressed their satisfaction with the warm hospitality and thorough preparations by Malaysia as the host,' Fahmi said at his weekly press conference.
Fahmi said that the Prime Minister is currently considering appropriate forms of recognition to honour the dedication and commitment shown by all parties involved, with a formal announcement to be made in due course.
'Insya-Allah, several options are being considered, and we leave it to the Prime Minister to make the official announcement,' he said.
LIMA'25 in Langkawi gathered 860 exhibitors from 24 countries, comprising 426 international and 434 local companies.
Themed 'Today's Innovation, Tomorrow's Achievements', this year's edition was the largest maritime and aerospace exhibition in Southeast Asia since LIMA's inception in 1991.
In Kuala Lumpur, apart from the 46th ASEAN Summit, two high-level meetings were also successfully held last month, namely the ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and the first ASEAN-GCC-China Summit.
The inaugural trilateral summit between ASEAN, GCC and China, which was also attended by Chinese Premier Li Qiang, not only marked a new chapter of strategic ties but also showcased Malaysia's commitment to enhancing regional economic cooperation.
The GCC comprises Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
Fahmi noted that the successful organisation of LIMA'25 and the 46th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits forms a strong foundation for Malaysia's hosting of the 47th ASEAN Summit in October under its 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship theme 'Inclusivity and Sustainability'.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, whose country is the current Chair of Asean for 2025, briefed his Lao counterpart on the outcome of a special meeting held between Cambodia and Thailand in Putrajaya, Malaysia, on July 28. The meeting was initiated and facilitated by Malaysia in its capacity as Asean Chair, with the aim of easing tensions and encouraging dialogue between the two neighbouring countries regarding their border dispute. Prime Minister Sonexay expressed appreciation for Malaysia's timely and constructive diplomatic efforts in convening the meeting. He praised Prime Minister Anwar's leadership in fostering dialogue and peaceful engagement, which he described as being in line with the core principles of Asean. He stressed that Laos, as a neighbouring country with close ties to both Cambodia and Thailand, is deeply concerned about the situation and supports all peaceful efforts to resolve the issue. They also exchanged views on broader regional and international issues of mutual interest, recognising the need for greater economic integration and policy coordination among Asean member states. Sultan Ibrahim departs for Russia in first state visit by Malaysian King since 1967
SUBANG, Aug 4 — His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, left for Russia this morning for a state visit, from tomorrow until Aug 10, at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin. His Majesty's visit will be the first by a Malaysian Head of State to Russia since diplomatic relations were established in April 1967. The special plane carrying His Majesty departed from the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) base here at about 8.55 am. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof were present to bid farewell to Sultan Ibrahim. Sarawak waiting for details of tourism zones, says state minister
Sarawak state minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the state's tourism strategy was already proven successful, with tourism receipts exceeding RM1 billion every month. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Sarawak is awaiting clarification from the federal government over special tourism investment zones announced under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), said state minister Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah. He said Sarawak has not been formally briefed on its implementation in the state, the Dayak Daily reported. 'At the moment, I have to admit that I am quite in the dark myself,' Karim was quoted as saying. Karim, who is the state minister for tourism, creative industry and performing arts, said: 'This has been initiated by the federal government. I'm still trying to understand where exactly these tourism zones are, as far as Sarawak is concerned. 'If the tourism investment zones mentioned include areas like Mulu, Niah, the Kuching Delta, and the Rainforest World Music Festival, then we are indirectly on the same track, it just hasn't been discussed in more detail,' Bernama quoted him as saying. 'We are ready to cooperate. The important thing is that there's no overlap, but rather we mutually strengthen the efforts that are being and will be carried out,' he said. The special tourism investment zones were announced on Thursday by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim when tabling the 13MP. He said they would be located in Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Sarawak. Anwar said the zones would be jointly developed by the state governments and private sector in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026. Karim said Sarawak had been actively promoting many of its destinations even without the 'imaginary zoning' that the federal tourism ministry had come up with. 'But for now, we will continue doing what we have been doing all this while.' He said the state's current tourism strategy had already been proven to be successful, with tourism receipts exceeding RM1 billion every month. Sarawak had more or less achieved its target of five million visitors this year, he said.
