Nationwide Coalition Unites in 'Operation Coast to Coast' to Combat Human Trafficking
Des Moines, Iowa, May 30, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Operation 'Coast to Coast', a coalition of over 150 law enforcement agencies and organizations including the Human Trafficking Training Center , Safe House Project , Our Rescue , the Rotary Action Group Against Slavery , Street Grace , Flock Safety , Delta Air Lines , and Code Four , is proud to announce a multi-state trafficking operation that recovered 70 individuals being trafficked, thus far. The 24-hour operation occurred across 19 states on May 29th and also resulted in 46 human trafficking suspects being arrested. More data on the operation is expected to be released over the upcoming days. Operation Coast to Coast began in 2024 as an initiative of the Human Trafficking Training Center and other organizations to spur a nationwide response to trafficking. 'Conducting proactive human trafficking operations can be positive and help identify victims and arrest traffickers. This group of states and agencies from across America have come together during Operation Coast to Coast, obtained proper training and participated in this nationwide operation to help victims, arrest traffickers and make their communities safer,' said Dan Nash, founder of the Human Trafficking Training Center and a former human trafficking investigator. 'As more and more agencies obtain proper training, this number will grow and make trafficking inhospitable in America.'
This year, the focus of Operation Coast to Coast was Illegal Massage Businesses (IMBs) , a subset of the human trafficking industry that use the cover of a legitimate business to conduct trafficking, often tied to transnational crime. There are an estimated 7,500-9,000 IMBs in the U.S., creating a network that Street Grace estimates is the country's second-largest pipeline for human trafficking. During the Operation, law enforcement identified and entered at least 26 IMBs in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, New Mexico, Arizona, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Florida, Georgia, New Jersey, New York, Nebraska and Vermont. The Operation also resulted in the recovery of at least $700,000 in cash.In the following days, the organizations involved in Operation Coast to Coast will provide the recovered victims with much-needed services, including food, lodging, medical services, drug rehabilitation, counseling/therapy and childcare. Several of the law enforcement agencies involved in the Operation used the TraffickStop public safety data platform, a joint initiative of Code Four and Flock Safety. Further Hamas ambushes to kidnap IDF soldiers expected, IDF officials say
Contrary to claims by officers that terrorists are not operating in an organized framework in areas captured by the IDF, Hamas operatives managed to attempt an organized operation in Khan Yunis. IDF Southern Command officials assessed on Wednesday that more attacks similar to the one in the Khan Yunis sector, which surprised troops from the Kfir Brigade, are expected. Although the IDF claimed that Hamas no longer functions as a military force in areas captured by Israel, an organized-level terrorist attack was nevertheless carried out on Wednesday. Military sources estimated that evening that Hamas and other terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip would attempt to launch attacks on IDF posts in the buffer zone. Military Intelligence Directorate and Shin Bet officials determined that the leading possible course of action in the Strip during the current fighting will be attacks on forces in posts and areas where troops are stationed, until the launch of the operation to capture Gaza City. Security officials added that in recent months, attacks planned in a similar format were foiled in Gaza thanks to precise intelligence provided to the IDF. Every active Hamas battalion or comparable terror unit operates independently under the direction of the military wing's senior command, according to assessments from officers in the Southern Command. These terrorist formations wait inside tunnels, supported by lookouts in buildings who supply them with food and information. Just this past week, active tunnels used by Hamas were identified and destroyed. Officials further assessed that this waiting posture of the terrorists will pose a challenge to the IDF during the operation to capture Gaza City. Therefore, they estimated that entry into the city's core will be particularly aggressive and accompanied by heavy fire. Exploiting a vulnerability in battle In recent months, senior officers had argued that Hamas's military wing no longer operates as a functioning army in captured areas. However, today Hamas exploited a vulnerability against an elite IDF force deep inside Palestinian territory in Khan Yunis, carrying out an attack at an organized level. Military officials assessed that behind the roughly 20 terrorists who took part in the battle, there were backup forces providing surveillance and intelligence on the area, alongside a command post operating nearby. 'The terrorists were equipped with combat gear that resembled the quality of October 7,' said one officer present at the scene. 'The terrorists were not supposed to breach the structure where the soldiers were located. This requires an in-depth investigation. "Hamas managed to concentrate its effort and nearly overwhelmed a unit. The proximity of the tunnel shaft from which the terrorists emerged in complete surprise raises the assessment that they intended to kidnap soldiers. The mutual support between IDF forces in the field repelled the attack.' The incident occurred on Wednesday when Hamas operatives attacked a position manned by the Haruv Reconnaissance Unit, part of the Kfir Brigade, in Khan Yunis. The terrorists opened fire with machine guns and anti-tank missiles. A battle between IDF troops and the terrorists ensued for several minutes. One soldier was severely wounded, and two others were lightly wounded. Ten terrorists were killed, some due to Air Force assistance. In the end, the IDF succeeded in repelling the attack. A Southern Command military source said the terrorists who carried out the attack intended to kidnap soldiers. Utah-based organizations work to increase literacy, provide scholarships to low-income readers
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Operation Literacy and OperationREAD are working to increase literacy amongst struggling readers, by providing access to assistive technology. Two Utah-based organizations, Operation Literacy and OperationREAD, are working together to provide increased access to assistive technology that can help dyslexic and struggling readers. They are offering scholarships to the DIVI platform, which provides specially formatted books. OperationREAD provides screenings for dyslexia and offers tutoring services to at-risk children. One service they offer is the DIVI platform. The DIVI platform provides books, stories, and articles, and adjusts to individual needs and learning levels, according to OperationREAD. It has a wide variety of novels available, typically at a cost to the user. Operation Literacy is providing scholarships to DIVI to young readers through their partnership with OperationREAD. Their scholarships help low-income and underserved readers obtain more accessible reading material. U.S. warships to patrol international waters around Venezuela as Trump vows to stop cartels
The U.S. military has sent destroyers and thousands of Marines toward Venezuela as President Donald Trump doubles down on deadly drug cartels, according to reports. At least three Aegis guided-missile destroyers — USS Gravely and USS Jason Dunham among them — are part of the mission, two U.S. officials anonymously told the Associated Press Tuesday. Another official told Reuters the deployment, which could arrive soon, involves around 4,000 Marines and soldiers "over the course of several months," backed by spy planes, warships and a submarine so that international waters and skies are covered. Tuesday's massive operation marks a dramatic escalation in Trump's push to block fentanyl and drug pipelines fueling America's overdose crisis. It also comes as the administration called Venezuela's regime a "narco-terror cartel" and demanded that President Nicolás Maduro be held accountable. When asked about this latest military vessel dispatch, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Tuesday the president "has been very clear and consistent" about using "every element of American power to stop drugs from flooding into our country and to bring those responsible to justice." During a White House press briefing, she added: "The Maduro regime is not the legitimate government of Venezuela. It is a narco-terror cartel. Maduro is a fugitive head of this cartel who has been indicted in the United States for trafficking drugs into the country." Attorney General Pam Bondi last week also announced a historic $50 million reward for information leading to Maduro's arrest — more than triple the $15 million offer first unveiled in 2020. Meanwhile, the Justice Department says it has already seized more than $700 million in assets tied to the embattled dictator, including two private jets and nine luxury vehicles. Maduro, indicted in New York in 2020 on narco-terrorism and cocaine importation conspiracy charges, has clung to power with military backing and allegedly with support from Russia, China and Cuba. In a televised address Monday, he vowed Venezuela would "defend our seas, our skies and our lands," deriding U.S. pressure as "the outlandish, bizarre threat of a declining empire." The Pentagon has previously deployed two warships to the region to deter drug trafficking and secure the border. Immigration enforcement has also been strengthened against alleged gang members like Tren de Aragua, MS-13 in El Salvador and six groups in Mexico. In February, Trump designated these as foreign terrorist organizations and imposed sweeping sanctions on Maduro, labeling him a dictator. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has also been urged by Trump to cooperate further on security and clamp down on cartels. So far, Sheinbaum has rejected suggestions of military intervention.
