Trump says 'war in Israel-Iran should end'
WASHINGTON, June 14 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday "this war in Israel-Iran should end," with his comments coming in a social media post on his call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"The call (between Trump and Putin) lasted approximately 1 hour. He feels, as do I, this war in Israel-Iran should end, to which I explained, his war should also end," Trump said on Truth Social.
Trump's comments mark the first time he has explicitly called for an end to hostilities between Washington's ally Israel and its Middle East rival Iran since Israel began striking Iran late on Thursday U.S. time and early Friday Middle East time.
Iran launched its own retaliatory strikes against Israel and the hostilities have raised alarm in a region already on edge since the start of Israel's war in Gaza in October 2023. Iranian officials have said dozens have been killed in Israel's attacks while Iran's missile volleys killed at least three in Israel on Friday, according to Israeli officials.
Trump said he and Putin mostly discussed the Middle East and spent "much less time" talking about Russia's war in Ukraine. Trump hinted at follow up discussions on the war in Ukraine in the coming week and said in his post that he told Putin that war in Ukraine should also end.
Trump had promised to end the world's hottest conflicts during his election campaign but nearly five months into his second term, with Israel attacking Iran and bloodshed in Gaza and Ukraine unabated, those promises have not yet been met.
The Kremlin separately also confirmed the Trump-Putin call and said they discussed the war in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East.

Manhunt continues for suspect in shootings of Minnesota lawmakers
The hunt for the man suspected of shooting two Minnesota lawmakers and their spouses while impersonating a police officer, killing one legislator and her husband, continued on Sunday more than 24 hours after the killings. Vance Boelter, 57, now on the FBI's most wanted list, is believed to have left the Minneapolis region after allegedly gunning down Democratic state representative Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, at their home, according to CNN. At aabout 3.30am local time, police responded to a shooting at Hortman's house to find Boelter leaving the property dressed as a police officer. They said he exchanged shots with them before escaping on foot. Police said Boelter's uniform might appear authentic to most people. Boelter also drove a vehicle that appeared identical to an SUV police squad car, said Mark Bruley, a local police chief. 'It was equipped with lights, emergency lights, that looked exactly like a police vehicle, and yes, they were wearing a vest with Taser, other equipment, a badge very similar to mine, that, no question, if they were in this room, you would assume that they are a police officer,' Bruley said. Tim Walz, the governor of Minnesota, said the murders appear 'to be a politically motivated assassination'. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to Boelter's apprehension and conviction. He was added to the FBI's most wanted list on Saturday. Before the attacks he reportedly contacted two friends by text message, which they read aloud to the Minnesota Star Tribune: 'I made some choices, and you guys don't know anything about this, but I'm going to be gone for a while. May be dead shortly, so I just want to let you know I love you guys both and I wish it hadn't gone this way.' He added: 'I don't want to say anything more and implicate you in any way because you guys don't know anything about this. But I love you guys and I'm sorry for all the trouble this has caused.' Authorities reportedly said that Boelter left a list of potential targets at the shooting scene. Multiple outlets have reported that it included pro-choice lawmakers, as well as reproductive health clinics.

German chancellor urges G7 to show unity in tackling Israel-Iran conflict
BERLIN, June 15 (Reuters) - German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Sunday he hoped agreement could be reached on four points at an upcoming Group of Seven (G7) summit in pursuit of a resolution to the conflict between Israel and Iran. Speaking as he prepared to fly to Canada for the meeting, Merz said he expected the Middle East conflict to be high on the agenda and that he hoped the G7 could demonstrate unity. The four points were: that Iran cannot develop or posses nuclear weapons; that Israel has the right to defend itself against existential threats, which he said Iran's nuclear programme represented; thirdly, the conflict should not escalate; and fourthly that scope for diplomacy must be created. "I would like to add that in Germany we are also getting ready in case Iran should target Israeli or Jewish targets in Germany," Merz told reporters, without going into more detail. Merz said the war in Ukraine would also be discussed by the G7 and that more pressure needs to be put on Russia to bring it to the negotiating table. To that end, European leaders wanted to agree new sanctions on Moscow at the end of this month, he said. Merz said economic issues would also be on the agenda and said efforts would be directed towards reaching an agreement over tariffs following the Trump administration's decision to impose them on its key trade partners earlier this year.

ISRAEL has said it does not rule out targeting Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei as it continues to bomb Iran's nuclear facilites. At least 70 missiles across two waves targeted Israel's port city of Haifa alongside Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Rehovot. Residential buildings were turned to rubble as ballistic missiles tore through the night sky - overwhelming air defence systems such as the Iron Dome. Israel's allies across the world have in the past helped Tel Aviv shoot down missiles fired from Iran during previous clashes between the two enemy powers.
