2025 NFL Scouting Combine: Kansas City Chiefs held 'formal meeting' with Miami TE
According to Tyler Jones of Chat Sports, the Kansas City Chiefs had a "formal meeting" with Miami Hurricanes tight end Elijah Arroyo this week at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Kansas City has decent depth at tight end following the return announcement from Travis Kelce and the extension to Noah Gray. Last season's rookie Jared Wiley is rehabbing from an ACL injury suffered in practice, which also factors into plans.
Arroyo was a crucial part of the Hurricanes' offense in 2024. He finished with 35 catches for 590 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 16.9 yards a reception. He earned second-team All-ACC honors and started all 13 games.
Injuries have been an unfortunate part of Arroyo's college career. A knee injury cost him nearly two seasons, and at 6-foot-5, 250 pounds, he is a great red-zone target when available. He would fit a quarterback like Mahomes because of his ability to make adjustments down the field for scrambling quarterbacks.

Chennedy Carter Makes Statement After Big Chicago Sky Announcement
Chennedy Carter Makes Statement After Big Chicago Sky Announcement originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It's been a rough start to the 2025 season for the Chicago Sky. Through seven games, the Sky have managed just two wins. Their latest outing, a home game against the Indiana Fever at the United Center, ended in a disappointing offensive performance with just 52 points scored. Advertisement Adding to their struggles, the team received devastating news about one of its top players. On Sunday evening, the Sky announced they will be down one of their top players for the rest of the 2025 season. "Courtney Vandersloot underwent an MRI yesterday that revealed a torn right anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), an injury she sustained in the June 7th game against Indiana. Vandersloot will miss the remainder of the 2025 WNBA season and undergo surgery to repair the injury. All of Skytown is behind you, Sloot!" the team said in a statement. With Vandersloot out, the franchise is now forced to evaluate long-term options to fill the void on the roster. One name that quickly surfaced is former Sky guard Chennedy Carter. Advertisement Shortly after the news broke, Carter posted a pointed message on her Threads account. "When the universe gives you signs you pay attention! What goes around always comes back around. When you have ugly in your heart the outcome will always backfire 🅿️🫵🏽Just wanna say pay attention to the universe. it's speaking to us 🏁." Former Chicago Sky guard Chennedy Carter (7).Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images Chennedy Carter was drafted fourth overall in the 2020 WNBA Draft by the Atlanta Dream after a standout college career at Texas A&M. She later joined the Chicago Sky, where she played the best basketball of her pro career. During her lone season with the Sky, Carter appeared in 33 games and started 20. She posted career-highs across the board, averaging 17.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Advertisement After her WNBA stint, Carter signed with Wuhan Shengfan for the 2024-25 season and absolutely dominated. She led the league in scoring, averaging 31.4 points per game, including a monster 44-point outing. She scored her highest points in a game in November 2023 when she put up 51 points. She also recorded the league's first triple-double of the season, putting up 33 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists in a single game. Following her MVP season, Carter signed with Adelitas de Chihuahua, a Mexican League team. Now, with a roster spot open and Carter making noise on social media, the Sky may have an interesting decision to make. Whether a reunion is in the cards remains to be seen, but Carter has certainly made it clear, she's paying attention. Iowa hires former NFL GM Scott Pioli as consultant following House settlement
Iowa's athletics department has hired former Kansas City Chiefs general manager and New England Patriots executive Scott Pioli as a consultant to help the football program transition into a new financial model. The move comes as universities prepare to pay athletes directly in response to the landmark House settlement approved last week. Advertisement Pioli, 60, worked alongside Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz with the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens from 1992-96, and the two have fostered a close relationship over the last three decades. Pioli has attended Iowa football practices and was retained last fall in preparation for the athletic department sharing revenue with Iowa athletes. Pioli will continue to work with all of Iowa's programs, but his expertise lies with football. At New England, Pioli was the Patriots' vice president of player personnel when the team won three Super Bowls and was named the Pro Football Writers Association's executive of the year three times. Pioli was the Chiefs' general manager from 2009-12, and then served as Atlanta Falcons assistant general manager from 2014-19. He has since worked as an NFL analyst for SiriusXM, NBC Sports and NFL Network. Iowa will share the maximum allowable amount of money under the House settlement, which is $20.5 million, with as much as 75 percent going toward the football program. In addition to bringing on Pioli, Iowa has established a cap management structure that includes general managers for each sport. Marcus Wilson will serve as executive senior associate athletics director for cap management and administration, while Scott Brickman, the department's general manager for NIL and strategy through a partnership with Altius Sports Partners, will review and approve all agreements. Financial parameters related to the $2.8 billion House settlement, which was approved on Friday night by Judge Claudia Wilken, go into effect on July 1.

Chris Godwin confirms how much money Patriots offered him
The New England Patriots offered Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin an offer he couldn't refuse in the offseason, and he still refused them. Godwin left generational wealth on the table to re-sign with the Buccaneers on a three-year, $66 million deal. According to The Athletic's Dan Pompei, who recently spoke with the former All-Pro receiver, the Patriots came after Godwin hard with a multi-year deal worth an average of $30 million per year. Advertisement And it still wasn't enough. Godwin's decision ultimately came down to family in the end. After going over the possibilities with his wife, Mariah, the couple decided it was best to stay in Tampa Bay. Pompei wrote: "One opinion mattered to Godwin — his wife Mariah's. They went over the possibilities and concluded they would take less, much less, to stay in Tampa." The decision made by Godwin forced the Patriots to pivot to signing veteran wideout Stefon Diggs, a four-time Pro Bowler coming off an ACL injury at 31 years old. Many will revisit the decision in the coming years to debate whether or not it was the right move for Godwin's football career. Advertisement Then there's the other side of the coin that often gets neglected in fan shouting matches. It's the other lives potentially impacted by a decision that Godwin weighed heavier than the pile of money left on the table. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.
