The Three People Ina Garten Calls Her ‘Dream Dinner Guests'
The Three People Ina Garten Calls Her 'Dream Dinner Guests' originally appeared on Parade.
The right group of people seated at your table can make or break a dinner party, whether you're a regular old person like you and me or a TV star like Ina Garten. The Barefoot Contessa has built a career around recipes that are perfect for entertaining, so she knows a thing or two about having people over. She recently opened up about her 'dream dinner guests,' and it's an interesting mix.
Garten shared her ideal guest list during the most recent "Sunday Sitdown Live" hosted by Today's Willie Geist. The session was done onstage in front of a live audience in New York City. The dynamic duo sipped cocktails and arranged a dessert platter while they answered questions from the crowd. 'Who are the three people, living or dead, you would like to have dinner with?' wondered one audience member.
Garten didn't hesitate with her response. Here's what she shared.

For the record, Ina Garten says she has already hosted one dream dinner guest:. As Garten told Geist and the audience earlier in the interview, Taylor Swift came to Garten's East Hampton barn 10 years and the two of them made pavlova.

But three people still remain on Garten's dream dinner guest list. In answer to Geist's question, Ina responded: 'How about Julia Child, Eric Ripert from Le Bernardin, and Jacques Pépin?'
In case you're not familiar with Garten's guest list, just know they're not your average Joes. Julia Child is a legendary American chef, TV personality and cookbook author who is known for introducing French cuisine to the American public. (And not to make it all about us, but Julia Child was Parade's very first food editor.)

Eric Ripertis a French chef and cookbook author who is the executive chef and co-owner of New York City's famed Le Bernardin restaurant, where he and his team turn out exquisite seafood dishes.
Jacques Pépin is a celebrated French chef and author, TV star and the winner of many awards, including several James Beard Awards. He's another food personality who is loved around these parts. (You have to try his French toast, scrambled eggs and quiche recipes.)
For his dream dinner guests, Geist listed off Dolly Parton, Martin Short and Geist's great-great grandfather, who played in the National Hockey League. If Geist and Garten brought their dream guests together, it would be one epic dinner party.

During the conversation with Geist, Garten also shared her advice on things to avoid at a dinner party. 'There are two things that I don't think you should ever bring to a dinner party—and they're so common—is something that the host feels like they should serve," she said, calling out Jell-O salad. "What are you going to do with that?" she adds.
Garten also recommends against bringing loose flowers. 'Don't ever bring flowers that aren't in a vase,' she said. 'You're there. You're like, everyone's arriving, and then all of a sudden you've got these flowers and you have to figure out what to do."The Three People Ina Garten Calls Her 'Dream Dinner Guests' first appeared on Parade on Jun 2, 2025

Meghan Markle Shares New Photos on Daughter Lilibet's Fourth Birthday
Duchess Meghan has shared never-before-seen photos of her daughter, Lilibet, on Instagram. The 43-year-old posted a black and white photograph of her hugging her daughter on what appears to be a boat. The Duchess of Sussex also posted a throwback photo from 2021 of a newborn Lilibet, with Meghan cradling the baby to her chest. The photos were posted in order to celebrate Lilibet's fourth birthday, with the caption reading: 'Happy birthday to our beautiful girl! Four years ago today she came into our lives - and each day is brighter and better because of it. Thanks to all of those sending love and celebrating her special day!' Later, Meghan also shared a video of labour with Lilibet. She is seen dancing alongside her husband to try and ease the process along. Elsewhere, more uploaded photos showed Prince Harry bonding with his baby daughter. Both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are fiercely protective of their children's privacy, with Meghan usually only posting photos of Lilibet from behind or covering her face. However, in this latest snap shared on socials, you can see the top half of Lilibet's face, with the bottom half obscured by Meghan's embrace. Meghan has taken to posting more and more tidbits of family life since she returned to Instagram earlier this year. Last week, she shared a video of her and Lilibet in matching beekeepers' outfits as they went to harvest honeycomb. 'Harvesting honey with my little honey,' she wrote at the time, (Like mother, like daughter; she's even wearing my gloves).' Meanwhile for Mother's Day, Meghan shared another photo of her carrying both her children. 'Cheers to juggling it all with joy!' she wrote. 'And to these two gems - who still attempt to climb 'mama mountain', smother me with kisses, and make every day the most memorable adventure….being your mom is the greatest privilege of my life.' Lilibet is the youngest child of Meghan and Harry, and was born in the US, a year after the pair decided to step back from being senior royals. The couple also share six-year-old Prince Archie.

Françoise Gilot's NYC home has just listed for the first time
Françoise Gilot — the brilliant French artist loved by Pablo Picasso and Jonas Salk — loved this apartment. And, indeed, home is where the art is. The late Gilot's lofty duplex in the heart of the West 67th Street's historic artists' district just hit the market for $4.3 million, according to StreetEasy. Gilot, known internationally for her watercolors, ceramics and the bestselling memoir 'Life with Picasso,' used the loft-like co-op home as a live-in studio for decades. Evan Joseph/Evan Joseph Studios In addition to striking French Modernist art, including works like 'Adam Forcing Eve to Eat an Apple' and the mythological 'Labyrinth Series,' Gilot was known for her impressive romantic relationships. Gilot first met Picasso when she was a 21-year-old artist living in German-occupied France. Picasso was 61 at the time. The dynamic pair spent almost 10 years together and shared two children. Gilot recounted this time in her 1964 best seller 'Life with Picasso.' The acclaimed book was loosely adapted in the 1996 James Ivory film 'Surviving Picasso,' featuring Anthony Hopkins. Gilot went on to marry Jonas Salk, the pioneer of the polio vaccine, and settled in New York City until her death at 101 years old in 2023. Advertisement This listing marks the first time Gilot's three-bedroom residence on West 67th Street has hit the market. It's being sold by her estate. The home features soaring, and striking-looking, barrel-vaulted ceilings over 17 feet high, a woodburning fireplace, oversized north-facing windows and a flexible three- to four-bedroom layout. 9 The two-tiered living area offers ample space and natural light. Evan Joseph/Evan Joseph Studios 9 The northern exposures were what Gilot liked best about the apartment. Evan Joseph/Evan Joseph Studios 9 The unit is a few floors below Peter Yarrow's former duplex, which entered into contract just last month. Evan Joseph/Evan Joseph Studios Advertisement 9 Gilot, as seen in a 'Woman in The News' feature by Nora Ephron in 1965. William N. Jacobellis/New York Post Gilot's duplex is just one of three units up for sale in the building. The second property, a $2.5 million two-bedroom, was also owned by Gilot. She used it as a guest apartment and a pied-à-terre, said Christie's International's Leslie Hirsch, who holds the two listings alongside Howard L. Morrel. The third unit is the recently in-contract home of the late Peter Yarrow, of Peter, Paul and Mary fame. Yarrow's fifth-floor duplex home last listed for $4.44 million and earned itself an impressive bidding war. Its final sale price is not yet known. The fact that all three listings at 27 W. 67th St. are estate sales is no coincidence. Families there tend to hold fast to their homes, Hirsch said. What is surprising, however, is that three units are on the market in the first place. 'Properties in the building don't come up for sale very often, ' Hirsch said. 'You see one or two a year, maximum.' 9 Gilot in 2015. Getty Images Advertisement The building is one of several special residences along an iconic New York City block, known at West 67th Street Artists' Colony Historic District. The landmarked stretch of brick and limestone buildings between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue gained a reputation for its high concentration of artist apartments. Famous residents included the daring 'Readymades' artist Marcel Duchamp and photorealistic painter Normal Rockwell. This building, in particular, was founded by a group of 10 artists who pooled their money for the 14-studio co-op, Curbed reported in 2023. The building continued to attract generations of artists, thanks to its wide open studio-like set-up and large, north-facing windows — the light best for painting. Advertisement It was that feature of the apartment, Hirsch said, that Gilot valued. 'You can stand on the balcony and look at your work from multiple angles,' she said. 'That's what her daughter said to me, that what she [Gilot] liked about painting in this apartment.
