Lakers have hired a new strength and conditioning coach
Just after the Los Angeles Lakers were knocked out of the 2025 NBA Playoffs by the Minnesota Timberwolves in May, coach JJ Redick said publicly that everyone on the roster needed to get into "championship shape" for the following season. The comment was widely seen as directed at Luka Doncic, and Doncic has done his part by getting into fantastic shape and reportedly losing 30 pounds since last summer. Now, the Lakers have reportedly hired a new strength and conditioning coach, and that hire is someone who has some history with Doncic. His name is Jeremy Holsopple, and he used to be the Dallas Mavericks' athletic performance director. Holsopple apparently got along well with Doncic, and he was named the NBA's Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year in 2021. However, he was fired by the Mavericks shortly after they lost to the Boston Celtics in the 2024 NBA Finals. This appears to be another example of the Lakers organization looking to cater to Doncic and help him be as happy, healthy and fit as possible. A happy, healthy and fit Doncic is the version of Doncic who would be most capable of leading the team to at least one NBA championship in the coming years.

Jalen Williams visits China for Adidas event
It's August, which means the NBA has entered the driest part of its calendar for the next two months. Teams head to vacation with their offseason moves mostly finished. Most wait for training camp to prepare for the 2025-26 regular season. The Oklahoma City Thunder continue to enjoy their summer. They captured the NBA championship after a historic season this past June. When you bring home the Larry O'Brien trophy, you have the next few months to showboat the accomplishment as you wait to get your ring. One player who played an important role in the Thunder's championship run is Jalen Williams. The 24-year-old played through a torn wrist ligament that required pain-numbing shots before every playoff game. He scored 40 points in a decisive Game 5 win over the Indiana Pacers in the 2025 NBA Finals. Still sporting a wrist cast, Williams traveled across the globe. He landed in China for an Adidas event. Arriving at the airport, he was welcomed by a sea of fans who wanted to see the All-NBA player in person. He recorded a video of the crowd and posted it on his Instagram story. Adidas has a handful of players who travel to China in the offseason to represent their brand. Considering Williams' ascension into one of the league's best players, it shouldn't be surprising to see him assigned for the international visit. The NBA has had strong support in China over the years. As the Thunder have been a title contender for most of the last two decades and are fresh off a championship, their international support should be surprisingly large for a small-market franchise.

Does Kevin Durant believe OKC Thunder should retire his No. 35 jersey?
Since his 2016 departure, Kevin Durant's jersey retirement has been a hot-button issue with the Oklahoma City Thunder and their fans. Every year, you're guaranteed a handful of online discourses that surround whether or not it should happen in the future. On one hand, Durant is one of the greatest players the NBA has ever seen. He spent nine seasons on the Thunder as a perennial All-NBA player and one-time MVP winner. He headlined their first championship window in the 2010s, which featured high-level winning, an NBA Finals trip and four Western Conference Finals appearances. While Durant failed to bring home a Larry O'Brien trophy, that level of success warrants celebrations. If you just looked at his resume and what he accomplished on the Thunder, it should be a no-brainer. Then there's the fan and emotional aspect of things. An immeasurable variable that holds weight. Durant's departure was as ugly as it gets. He left the Thunder for the Golden State Warriors, the team they famously blew a 3-1 series lead to in the 2016 Western Conference Finals. Leaving OKC for them a month later was the type of move that completely flipped his public perception. On his way to two championships, Durant burned bridges to the Thunder. He's criticized how the organization handled the roster construction around him. He's also bad-talked OKC fans. Years of those comments have worn down any goodwill that most Thunder fans have had since his exit. If you ask any Thunder fan about his No. 35 being eventually retired, prepare to be shut down. They will say no and make a playful comment that PJ Dozier is the greatest No. 35 in franchise history. Durant, though, played it cool on the possibility. After going on another Twitter rant, Durant trolled Thunder fans and downplayed their NBA championship. His latest comments about OKC stem from the NBA scheduling the 2025-26 Opening Night with the Houston Rockets in attendance for the Thunder's ring ceremony. Of course, that means Durant will be across the court when they celebrate the NBA title he never managed to win in OKC. Going back at it on Monday morning, Durant responded to an account that asked if he thinks the Thunder should retire his No. 35 jersey. He said what they most likely think. While fans would turn him down, it's not their decision to make. Durant wrote: "U don't want me to answer this but what I will say, muse pages and Stan accounts don't make none of these decisions.." As badly as Thunder fans don't want to admit, Durant is likely right. They can boo him as much as they want, but the franchise decision-makers themselves can't do that. Even if they're still hurt feelings over his departure, you can't ignore that one of the 15 greatest players ever spent most of his career with your team. While how the Thunder handle Durant's jersey retirement may be up for debate — it likely needs to happen after Russell Westbrook's and maybe even Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's, to save face — the truth is, it should eventually happen. He was too good a player and would be franchise negligence not to retire his No. 35.
