Richard Chamberlain, The Thorn Birds and Shogun Actor, Dead at 90
Actor Richard Chamberlain, whose TV credits include Shogun and The Thorn Birds, has died. He was 90.
The news of Chamberlain's death was confirmed to TVLine by his publicist Harlan Boll, who said Chamberlain died Saturday of complications following a stroke.

'Our beloved Richard is with the angels now,' Chamberlain's longtime partner Martin Rabbett said in a statement. 'He is free and soaring to those loved ones before us. How blessed were we to have known such an amazing and loving soul. Love never dies. And our love is under his wings lifting him to his next great adventure.'
Chamberlain is perhaps best known for playing Father Ralph de Bricassart in the 1983 miniseries The Thorn Birds. The Emmy-winning series, which was adapted from Colleen McCullough's romance novel of the same name, followed the forbidden love story between Chamberlain's priest and Meggie Cleary (played by Rachel Ward) in the Australian outback.
The actor also starred in the 1980 miniseries Shogun, an adaptation of James Clavell's novel, as John Blackthorne, and played the titular character in Dr. Kildare, the medical drama based on the popular film series that had starred Lew Ayres. The show, which also starred Raymond Massey, ran from 1961 to 1966.
Chamberlain's other TV credits include Centennial, The Portrait of a Lady, Dream West, Island Sun, Blackbeard, Chuck, Brothers & Sisters and Leverage. On the film side, his credits include The Four Musketeers: Milday's Revenge, The Towering Inferno, The Last Wave, Petulia and The Music Lover.

Martin may own an array of designer suits, but with all those skeletons in his closet, he barely has anywhere to put them. If Smitty uncovers his husband's truth before Martin reveals it himself, things could get very ugly. — A.S. Criminal Minds over 18 seasons (and counting) has, frankly, not featured much LGBTQ+ romance, so Evolution steering Tara into bisexual territory was monumental. Save for an early-season love scene (a rarity for the crime drama!), this pairing has had little screen time in Season 18, but it's good to know they're going strong — to the point that it may be time to meet the parents! — Matt Mitovich Not unlike the Grinch, Leo Stark's heart has grown several sizes during his time in Salem, and the former grifter is always at his best when he's in a stable relationship. After a string of failed romances, Leo seems to have finally gotten it right with Javi, and we're enjoying this latest version of him. Hey, what could possibly go wrong to screw up this perfect pairing? It's not like we're talking about some kind of soap op… oh, right. — A.S. This flame was well on its way to being rekindled when all hell broke loose in the Season 3 finale — just as Eve got blindsided by Francine's talk of having kids. In the heat of the moment, Eve didn't pivot well (at all), but in the wake of Francine's heroics during the Three Rock blaze, we hope they in fact are back on track. — M.M. Yes, the cute couple played by Colman Domingo and Marco Calvani hit a bit of turbulence in the freshman season of Netflix's vacation comedy. (Danny ignoring his health issues and Claude's hot Italian temper led to a fight where Danny's clothes ended up on the front lawn.) But once you get past all the drama, there's a genuine sweetness to these two, and we loved watching them cuddle together and make up. — Dave Nemetz We #Momelia fans are a patient lot. It's been more than a season since Amelia first asked out the new colleague with whom she sparks so appealingly, and they still haven't so much as kissed. Nevertheless, their mutual respect for and ever-increasing understanding of one another keeps us telling ourselves, 'Maybe the next episode will be the one.' — Charlie Mason In Season 3 of Netflix's butterflies-inducing LGBTQ+ dramedy, the high-school sweethearts' romance was tested like never before — by their cohabitation, by the academic pressure on the former, by the latter's nonbinary journey. Yet as we shippers knew they would, the couple managed to rise to the challenges before them and emerge closer than ever on the other side. — C.M. You want to talk about bringing down the house? When these immortal lovers reunited in a hotel at the end of Season 2, in the midst of a devastating New Orleans storm, the structure quite literally crumbled around them. Louis and Lestat have a love for the ages, and now that their mutual misunderstandings have been cleared up, we're hoping for a fresh start moving forward. — A.S. The two post-apocalyptic teens managed to start a relationship in a) a mushroom apocalypse, b) while in deep grief over someone they both adored, and c) despite the fact that one of them was pregnant by someone else. Talk about finding love in a hopeless place! — Kim Roots There's no telling what the future holds for these two badass warriors — literally, the Paramount+ drama has yet to be renewed for a third season — but after all they went through and barely survived at the close of Season 2, it is one of our most fervent wishes that they found the time for lots of not talking. — M.M. Charley is one of those puppy dog characters to whom you only ever want to see good things happen, so imagine our pleasant surprise when he struck up a romance with pouty potter Yuri in the ghost drama's second season. The chemistry, the kisses, the Ghost reenactment — it was all just so, so good. If they couldn't be their authentic selves when they were alive, at least they can be happy together in the afterlife, right? — A.S. After four long, dry seasons (unless you count tears!), we were beginning to think that Isaac would never find someone to share his life with. But then, just when we least expected it, along came Michael to sweep his former frenemy off his feet. Watching them awkwardly figure out their feelings for one another was an unexpected delight, and that first kiss at the Christmas festival? Come on, now! We're all in with these two. — A.S. Fire Country Season 4: Max Thieriot Worries Bode Will Be ‘Very Broken' If [Spoiler] Has in Fact Died — WATCH
Fire Country star and co-creator Max Thieriot is frankly worried 'how poorly' Bode will respond if his firefighter father, Vince, winds up dying in the blaze that closed out Season 3. When last we tuned into the Friday-night CBS drama, the scene at Walter's memory care center was mayhem. Racing to the facility after realizing it was in the path of the Zabel Ridge wildfire, Bode and Walter (Jeff Fahey) spent a lot of time hunting for Walter's pal Otto, eventually finding him sheltered in a closet. Vince and Sharon (Billy Burke and Diane Farr) arrived on the scene and, leaving Jake (Jordan Calloway) in charge, dashed inside to find Bode and Walter, though that took time. And then once they did, Walter went missing! Vince located Walter, but before they and Sharon could find their way to safety, the roof collapsed — as a horrified and helpless Bode watched from outside…. As if the cliffhanger wasn't harrowing enough, as soon as the finale ended on the East Coast, the news broke that Burke, who has played Vince since Day 1, was exiting the CBS drama after three seasons. (Stephanie Arcila is also done as a series regular, though producers hope her Gabriela might pop up now and again as a guest star.) Meaning, it sure seems like Season 4 will reveal that Vince in fact perished in the blaze. If true, Bode will certainly be left 'very broken,' Thieriot tells TVLine in the red carpet video above. 'Bode has obviously gone through a lot of hardship in his life,' his portrayer notes, 'and it seems like every time he feels like he's coming out the other side, something happens. So I worry what [Vince's death] would to do him, and how poorly he would respond. 'We know [Bode has] made leaps and bounds as far as the person he is after being incarcerated,' Thieriot continues, 'but has he come fare enough to deal with something like that or not…? It's heavy.'
