The Lusail International Circuit (LIC) and University of Doha for Science & Technology (UDST) have announced a landmark partnership aimed at creating exceptional opportunities for students while enhancing operational capabilities at Qatar's premier motorsport venue.
The collaboration will support Qatar's Vision 2030 by fostering education, innovation, and youth employment in the sports and events management sector, particularly for prestigious motorsport events including Formula 1, MotoGP, and World Endurance Championship races.
'This partnership represents a significant step forward in developing local talent for Qatar's growing sports and events industry,' said Abdulrahman Al Mannai, President of Qatar Motor & Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) and Lusail International Circuit. 'By working closely with UDST, we can provide students with unparalleled hands-on experience while strengthening our operational capabilities for world-class events.'
H.E. Dr. Salem Al Naemi, President of University of Doha for Science and Technology emphasized the importance of this collaboration stating: 'This strategic partnership with Lusail International Circuit marks a milestone in advancing applied education at the University of Doha for Science and Technology. By bridging academic knowledge with real-world experience in the field of motorsports, we are equipping our students with the skills and competencies required to excel in innovation-driven and technically demanding industries. Moreover, this collaboration aligns with our long-term vision to support the circuit with a pipeline of highly qualified professionals.'
The partnership includes several key initiatives:
A structured internship program providing UDST students with practical experience across various LIC departments during major international events.
An annual Open Day at Lusail International Circuit where students can engage with professionals across different motorsport industry roles.
Quarterly industry seminars and workshops led by LIC professionals covering specialized topics in event management, marketing, and motorsport operations.
A long-term talent pipeline framework designed to identify high-performing students for potential employment at LIC post-graduation.

UDST students achieve second place at Shell Eco-Marathon Europe and Africa
Tribune News Network Doha University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) has announced that its Wolves Racing Team has secured second place in the Autonomous Urban Concept category at the prestigious Shell Eco-Marathon Europe and Africa 2025 regional competition, held in Poland. The event featured 120 student teams from 25 countries across Europe and Africa. The student-built autonomous electric vehicle, fully designed and developed in-house at UDST's campus, reflects the University's advanced applied learning model, and showcases the students' exceptional technical expertise in engineering, automation, and sustainable mobility. The vehicle successfully met and passed stringent European autonomous driving regulations, highlighting a significant milestone that demonstrates the technical sophistication and reliability of the design. Notably, this year marked the Wolves Racing Team's debut participation in the autonomous vehicle category, competing as the sole non-European team among a highly competitive field of global universities within this category. The organising and judging teams of this competition expressed their admiration and appreciation for the technology used as well as the technological competitiveness demonstrated by the university students during their participation in this type of competition, especially in designing and building the car in record time. Commenting on this achievement, Dr Salem Al-Naemi, president of UDST, stated: 'This remarkable accomplishment reflects the strength of UDST's applied education approach, empowering our students to transform knowledge into real-world innovations. Designing and building an autonomous electric vehicle from initial concept to participation in international competitions requires advanced technical expertise, innovation, and a commitment to achieving the highest standards of quality and excellence. The Wolves Racing Team has demonstrated that Qatar's youth are fully capable of competing on the international stage, contributing to the advancement of sustainable technologies in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 and the priorities of the Third National Development Strategy.' ‘Amazing feeling': Marc Marquez wins Italian MotoGP for Ducati on home soil
Ducati's Marc Marquez won the Italian Grand Prix after a dogfight for podium places at the Mugello Circuit, taking the chequered flag ahead of his brother Alex to maintain his iron grip on the MotoGP riders' championship. Gresini Racing's Alex Marquez briefly led the race early on Sunday before Marc took control, while Fabio Di Giannantonio of VR46 Racing claimed third place after snatching the final podium spot from his Italian compatriot Francesco Bagnaia. Home favourite Bagnaia also led the race in the initial stages, but the factory Ducati rider, who had won the last three races at Mugello, was overshadowed by the Marquez brothers and could only finish fourth in front of his home fans. Marc Marquez's victory was also the 93rd win of his career across all classes, matching his motorcycle number, and the Spaniard celebrated by planting a Ducati flag in front of the home fans who once saw him as a rival when he was with Honda. 'Amazing feeling … three Ducatis on the podium, to win here [at Mugello] in the red,' said Marc, who now leads Alex by 40 points while Bagnaia is 110 points back in third. 'I already understood this morning that was super special for them, even for me, because I feel part of them. Super happy. 'We managed the race … I was calm and then when the tyres dropped a bit, I started to give everything. Happy to take the 37 points in this amazing weekend.' Fresh from claiming his historic 100th career pole with a blistering lap record and Saturday's unlikely sprint victory, Marc found himself locked in a fraternal battle with Alex – a running theme this season. The opening laps unfolded as a masterclass in close-quarter racing between the two factory Ducati machines – their special Italian Renaissance livery flashing through Mugello's sweeping turns – while Alex stayed on their tails. Bagnaia denied victory on home soil The crowd erupted when Bagnaia briefly snatched the lead from Marc after turn one, but what followed was high-speed drama as they traded positions, occasionally making heart-stopping contact with each other. Disaster nearly struck when Bagnaia, pushing his bike to the limit, touched Marc's rear tyre as he was forced to brake hard and surrender his position to Alex. Fans in the grandstand witnessed a spectacular moment when all three riders thundered into turn one abreast, a three-wide gamble that saw Alex briefly seize control, drop to third on the brakes and then reclaim the lead moments later on the exit. But Marc eventually broke free, leaving brother Alex to doggedly defend second position against a relentless Bagnaia. However, the Italian did not have the late-race pace to catch up, and he was soon forced to defend the final podium place, with Di Giannantonio looking to upstage his compatriot. With two laps to go, Di Giannantonio made his move on turn seven as he squeezed past the two-time champion and raced away to claim his first podium finish at Mugello. 'I knew that I had to risk a lot to take him, but at the end, the last lap, I said, 'OK, let's go for it,' and we've done it,' Di Giannantonio said. 'My first podium in MotoGP Mugello, in front of this fantastic group of fans.'
