STAMFORD, Conn. – Aug. 14, 2025 – The 2025-26 Premier League season kicks off this weekend across the platforms of NBCUniversal, with the opening match tomorrow, Friday, Aug. 15, as reigning PL Player of the Season Mohamed Salah and defending champions Liverpool host Bournemouth at 3 p.m. ET on USA Network and Universo.
NBC Sports' Premier League Live studio team of Rebecca Lowe, Robbie Earle, Robbie Mustoe, and Tim Howard will be in the U.K. for special on-site, pitch-side shows kicking off coverage all weekend: Friday at 2 p.m. ET on USA Network from Anfield ahead of Liverpool-Bournemouth, Saturday at 7 a.m. ET on USA Network from Molineux Stadium ahead of Wolverhampton Wanderers-Manchester City, and Sunday at 8 a.m. ET on USA Network and Peacock from Old Trafford ahead of Manchester United-Arsenal.
Coverage begins tomorrow with Premier League Live at 2 p.m. ET on USA Network, leading into Liverpool-Bournemouth. Jon Champion, Lee Dixon and Graeme Le Saux will call the opening match on USA Network live from Anfield.

Of course, the Reds are an elite club, but in the Englishman's mind, a move to Real Madrid was something he simply couldn't go without. Now it's Konate's turn to face the music Once Salah and Van Dijk had signed their new contracts, the fans were given a chance to breathe and forget about the complexities of player negotiations, simply focusing on celebrating the title win. But it soon became apparent that this would be a make or break summer for Ibrahima Konate and while we initially received encouragement that he would re-sign with us, nothing has happened yet. After the match against Tottenham that won Liverpool the Premier League, the Frenchman was pictured sitting in the stands at Anfield, pondering over how the celebrating fans must have felt. It made him emotional and you felt as though the bond he had with us would convince him to stay. A series of contract talks then unfolded once the season had formally drawn to a close, over six months since Liverpool first looked to negotiate with Konate to try and tie him down to a new deal. But they were unsuccessful, as differing valuations caused a breakdown in talks and now it's August, just a few days before the new season begins and we're none the wiser as to what will happen. Paris Saint Germain were said to have been interested, but their successful approach for IIlya Zabarnyi from Bournemouth suggests they may no longer be in the market for a defender. Meanwhile, Real Madrid are always on the hunt for a bargain and are even more interested when it comes to free transfers. MARCA, a Spanish website, has recently published a report on Konate's situation, claiming that it's still possible for the player to leave in finals weeks of the transfer window. In their report, it said: "Liverpool's directors don't want a repeat of the Alexander-Arnold affair, and are putting pressure on Konate in every way possible to renew his contract, all so that he doesn't leave the English club, leaving nothing or very little in return, as was the case with the now Real Madrid player, who, without the Club World Cup, would have left nothing in the Premier League champions' coffers. "As MARCA has learned, the English club plans to renew the Frenchman's contract in the coming days. If the player rejects the offer again, the situation would change radically, and the possibility of Konate being put on the market would become more than a reality. In fact, the Frenchman and Van Dijk are the only healthy centre-backs Slot currently has." Of course, the reliability of this information is to be doubted, since Liverpool would be massively shooting themselves in the foot if they allowed Konate to leave this summer. If him extending his contract isn't on the cards for us, then letting him go in January might well be a considered option. But until moves for linked players such as Marc Guehi and Giovanni Leoni are agreed, then nothing will happen with Konate regardless. He's been happy in and around the squad this summer and so there is reason to be optimistic with our chances of keeping him, but the can of works regarding his future is unlikely to be opened this summer. His importance to the side is greater than a transfer fee. Nonetheless, keep an eye on this saga, because we'll eventually get an update, positive or negative, ignoring the issue isn't an option. Eventually he'll need to face the music, just as we will as a club.

Manchester City opposition watch: Wolverhampton Wanderers
Manchester City begin their bid to recapture the Premier League title this weekend. Pep Guardiola's side will take on Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday to start the new season. Vitor Pereira's side has lost several key players this summer. But despite this, they have the potential to be a formidable opponent at Molineux on Saturday. Wolverhampton Wanderers have quality in their ranks, especially in midfield. It has been a busy summer in terms of departures for Wolves. This summer has seen key players Matheus Cunha, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Nelson Semedo leave the club. The departure of three key players leaves a void in Vitor Pereira's squad. But despite the loss of those three players, there is quality in the Wolves' ranks. Looking at the Wolverhampton Wanderers midfield, two players will be key to their fortunes against Manchester City and throughout next season. Those two players are Andre and Joao Gomes. The Brazilian midfielders have the necessary tenacity and fight to thrive in midfield. They are also technically sound players who have more than earned their strong reputations. They do loom as a threat to Pep Guardiola's side at Molineux. If Manchester City win the midfield battle on Saturday, it could dictate who wins Saturday's match. Up front, Vitor Pereira's squad does have quality in the final third. Striker Jørgen Strand Larson is a strong and physical player with an eye for goal. He should give the Manchester City defence a tough day at the office. If Wolves create the chances, Strand Larson is a quality finisher. Colombian winger Jhon Arias is a new signing at Molineux. He is a dynamic winger who can be a handful on his day. At the back, the Wolverhampton Wanderers does appear to be in a state of rebuild. The loss of Rayan Ait-Nouri and Nelson Semedo does stand out. But centre-backs Toti and Emmanuel Agbadou are a strong combination who are Premier League proven. Jose Sa is a quality goalkeeper which he has displayed throughout his time at Wolves. Wolves have a quality manager in Vitor Pereira. Vitor Pereira led Wolves to safety last season. He took over the club when it was in a perilous position in the Premier League table. Wolves seemed to be a candidate to be relegated last season until Vitor Pereira took over. He led his Wolverhampton Wanderers side to 10 wins in 22 matches and kept them in the Premier League with ease. Typically, Vitor Pereira prefers a 3-4-3 formation. The three centre-backs give his team stability at the back, and he prefers his wing-backs to offer an attacking threat. With the loss of Nelson Semedo and Rayan Ait-Nouri, how this affects Vitor Pereira's side remains to be seen. Summary. All told, Wolverhampton Wanderers won't be a pushover at Molineux on Saturday. Pep Guardiola's side will have to be at their best against Vitor Pereira's side. Wolves on their day can be a handful. Especially at home. The potential for a tricky fixture is there for Manchester City. So they will have to be at their best to start the season with three points on Saturday.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has praised summer signing Florian Wirtz ahead of Friday evening's season-opener against Bournemouth. The Reds spent a fortune to bring Wirtz to Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen, splashing a mouth-watering British record £116 million on him. Liverpool paid an initial £100m, while the additional £16m is tied to performance-related add-ons. Wirtz is still finding his feet in England, but his pre-season performances gave the Liverpool fans a glimpse of what to expect this season. Xabi Alonso tried to bring him into positions we want to, but it's true he has to adjust to England, intensity and his new team-mates.' Liverpool are heading into Friday's season-opener as overwhelming favourites as they take on a Bournemouth squad that has been picked apart this summer. One of the narratives that could dominate the headlines would be the performance of Hungarian left back Milos Kerkez, who is expected to make his Liverpool debut against his former employers.
