'Psychic Swindler' Tom Colton — who has avoided jail following his latest conviction — claims to be a ghostbuster who has helped people with haunted homes.
The self-described 'spiritual medium' who was previously jailed for stealing €322,000 from an elderly couple, was back in court in recent weeks where he became the first person to be prosecuted for acting as a director following an automatic disqualification.
However, Colton (49) from St Wolstan's Abbey, Celbridge, Co. Kildare, walked free from court after the judge handed him a suspended sentence.
The former accountant and businessman, who reinvented himself as a medium after getting into financial bother, set up a spiritual wedding and funeral business following his release from prison after swindling the elderly couple out of money.
Colton, who was also a Leinster rugby referee and administrator, set up the company despite being disqualified from running any company due to his previous theft conviction.

We had hoped to ask him about his crimes, as well as his claims about talking to ghosts.
We can reveal that as well as being able to communicate with dead people, Colton claims that he has performed 'spirit rescues' on haunted homes.
In his book Will We Ever Meet Again?: A Bridge Between this World and the Next, Colton discusses his journey into mediumship.
'We get a unique insight into the challenges of this very unconventional calling, as Tom performs 'spirit rescues' in homes troubled by persistent spirit activity and helps families reconcile with the loss of loved ones,' the book's blurb claims.
Colton was dubbed the 'psychic swindler' after he was convicted of theft in 2015 — but he says he sees himself more as a medium that a psychic.
'A medium is able to make contact with someone in the spirit world directly, without the use of tools, whereas most psychics will work with tools such as cards, rune stones, crystal balls, tea leaves or by reading the sitter's palm,' he says in his book.
One purchaser of the book left a two-star review online, saying: 'I really wanted this book then read about him on the Internet.'
It is unclear if the book mentions any of his criminal activities.
Colton's appearance before Dublin Circuit Court earlier this month is just the latest in a string of court appearances. As well as his theft conviction, he has previously been convicted after he acted as auditor while disqualified and producing false audit reports.
He was also in civil court over a €2.7m debt write-off which the High Court overturned in 2022 after discovering he had not disclosed that he and his wife owned a villa in Lanzarote villa.
In a 2022 judgment, Mr Justice Alexander Owens said a 'spending spree' on the Spanish property, with accompanying renovations, said to be worth €400,000, was taking place while the couple's personal insolvency practitioner was formulating proposals for their debt plan.

‘As a father, he betrayed her': Man jailed for engaging in sex act with vulnerable adult daughter
A man who 'betrayed' his adult daughter, who has an intellectual disability, by engaging in a sexual act with her, has been jailed for eight years. The 69-year-old man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to two counts of engaging in a sexual act with a protected person in Leinster on February 7th, 2023. The woman has a moderate intellectual disability and now lives in a residential care setting, the court heard. Passing sentence on Tuesday in the Central Criminal Court , Mr Justice Paul McDermott said this is a very serious offence with a maximum sentence of life in prison. Mr Justice McDermott sentenced the defendant to nine years in prison but suspended the final year for a period of two years. He also placed the man under the supervision of the Probation Service for five years and directed him to undertake any courses it deems appropriate. The judge said the man is to have no contact with his daughter without her consent and only then under very strict supervision. He backdated the sentence to when the defendant went into custody. At a previous hearing, an investigating garda told the court the injured party is in her mid-30s and has moderate intellectual disability. The court heard the woman was given a course on sexuality, during which she disclosed that she had never shared a bed with a man before, except for her father, who had not worn a condom. Specialist interviewers from An Garda Síochána spoke to the victim and she was moved into residential care after the abuse was disclosed. The investigating garda agreed with Seoirse Ó Dúnlaing SC, defending, that a trial date was fixed for March this year, but a guilty plea had been entered, saving the woman from having to give evidence in front of a jury. The garda also accepted that the man had no previous convictions and that his wife had passed away a number of years ago, meaning he became his daughter's main carer. A social worker gave evidence that the woman has good independent skills and is a kind and caring person who masks her emotions. She told Mr Vincent Heneghan, SC, prosecuting, that the injured party had not availed of any counselling and the abuse continues to affect her daily life.

'Kneecap are now cast in that global story. It's not where they wanted or intended to be, but they are shining a light on what is happening in Gaza at a time when political leaders around the world don't want to talk about it,' he said. 'They are speaking for young people around the world, telling them this is genocide. They have transcended the established political order.' He said their message came at a time when Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg were shutting down free speech on social media, and mainstream media was increasingly restricted. 'Public spaces for people to be informed are getting smaller,' he said. 'Soon the only place to get the truth across is from the stage.' It is understood the band no longer hold valid visas following their controversial appearance at the Coachella festival in California in April. The band has refused to step back from despite attempts to have them cancelled. Then comes Glastonbury on June 28. Festival organisers have come under pressure from politicians and ministers to drop the Belfast rappers from the line-up. After a surprise gig at the 100 Club in London on Wednesday following Mo Chara's arrest, they took to the stage on Friday in from of 20,000 fans at the Wide Awake Festival in south London. Mo Chara told the crowd the authorities were 'trying to silence us' before Glastonbury and urged fans not to be 'on the wrong side of history'. 'I know we're out, we're enjoying ourselves and we're trying to listen to some tunes at a festival... believe me lads, I wish I didn't have to do this,' he said. 'Let's remember how lucky we are to be in a field with our friends and not being bombed from the sky,' Mo Chara said. He said the US administration had been embarrassed to see thousands of Americans chanting 'Free Palestine', describing Glastonbury as the UK's Coachella. An estimated 54,000 people including 16,500 children have died in Israel's bombing campaign launched in the wake of Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023 which resulted in 1,200 deaths and 251 people being taken hostage. Family dog killed and two people injured as Dublin gang firebombs wrong house
