Yoga Sangam: 3,000 to gather at Bengaluru's Vidhana Soudha for International Yoga Day

The 11th International Yoga Day celebrations is set to witness a mass gathering of around 3,000 people at the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru this year, according to Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao.
The state is set to celebrate the day - June 21- with various events, including the standardized yoga routine outlined by the Central government. The mega yoga event at the Vidhana Soudha will be inaugurated by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot.
The program will run from 6 am to 8 am, with similar events being held simultaneously at various district and taluk centres.
The celebration, titled "Yoga Sangam," will be organized in collaboration with multiple yoga organizations, civil society groups, and other partners. A 45-minute session following the common yoga protocol developed by the AYUSH Ministry will be the key feature of the event.
Top state officials including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, state ministers, MLAs, MLCs, and notable yoga gurus from Karnataka are expected to attend the Vidhana Soudha program.
'A special 100-day countdown campaign to International Yoga Day is already underway. The Department of AYUSH, Government of Karnataka, has begun organising several innovative programmes, including 11 national-level yoga competitions in collaboration with the Government Ayurveda Research Centre in Mysuru,' Gundu Rao said, as quoted by news agency PTI.
Additionally, around 300 Ayushman Health and Wellness Centres in rural parts of the state will host their own yoga day events.
A large-scale Yoga Mahakumbh is also planned at the Mysore Palace grounds, where approximately 15,000 people are expected to join.
On the same day, Yoga Sangam events will be conducted in all 30 district centres, each targeting at least 5,000 participants. Nationally, the Government of India aims to organize Yoga Sangam events at 100,000 locations, with Karnataka contributing around 10,000 of these programs.
The Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in Karnataka has submitted a request to the Centre to officially recognize Mysuru as a 'Yoga District', according to The Hindu. As part of this initiative, the goal is to ensure that at least one person in every household across the district learns and regularly practices yoga.

The most illustrious showcase of this nationwide movement will take place in Visakhapatnam, where the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu and the Union Minister of State (IC) for the Ministry of Ayush and Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav, will lead more than 5 lakh yoga enthusiasts in performing the Common Yoga Protocol, the statement added. Scheduled for 21st June 2025, from 6:30 AM to 7:45 AM, Yoga Sangam is poised to become one of the largest mass yoga events ever, with lakhs of institutions, organisations, and communities preparing to roll out their yoga mats in synchrony. Rajasthan continues to lead the movement, registering an impressive 1,38,033 organisations, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 1,38,033, Uttar Pradesh with 1,01,767, Madhya Pradesh with 26,159, Gujarat with 19,951 and Himachal Pradesh with 12,000. This surge in participation reflects the widespread enthusiasm for this year's theme--'Yoga for One Earth, One Health'--a message that aligns yoga with global sustainability and personal well-being. Further, as per the statement, from IITs and IIMs to grassroots NGOs and leading corporates, institutions across sectors are embracing the call to action. The grand event will take place along the 27-kilometre-long coastal road of Visakhapatnam, which will serve as the venue for this massive yoga session. On Tuesday, the Andhra Pradesh government conducted a high-level review meeting at the VMRDA office in Visakhapatnam to finalise preparations for the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations on June 21. The event, which is expected to attract a record turnout of five lakh people, will be held with massive arrangements in place to ensure smooth execution. The meeting was attended by Ministers Vangalapudi Anitha, Achennaidu, DBV Swamy, BC Janardhan Reddy, and Angani Satya Prasad, along with MP Bharat, coalition MLAs from Uttarandhra, and several other public representatives. Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha addressed the press after the meeting and shared major details about the event.'The people of Visakhapatnam are fortunate to organise the 11th International Yoga Day in Visakhapatnam,' she said. She added that the state government had taken the International Yoga Day very seriously and that the Chief Minister supervised the arrangements. Highlighting the significance of the event, she said, 'Yoga is a gift from India to the world. Yoga is a part of life. We are moving Andhra Pradesh towards a healthy Andhra Pradesh.' To ensure proper management of the event, officials said that 326 compartments had been prepared to accommodate participants. The main event this year will be organised in Visakhapatnam by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, under the theme 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health'. In a letter released ahead of the celebrations, the Prime Minister described the occasion as a milestone moment, marking 10 successful years since the United Nations first adopted June 21 as International Yoga Day. He noted that over the past decade, yoga has evolved into a global movement, and positively influenced the lives of millions, not only in India but around the world. The Prime Minister emphasised that yoga is not only a tool for individual health but also symbolises humanity, environmental conservation, and global unity. He reiterated that yoga is a vital part of our rich cultural heritage, and plays a crucial role in achieving a balance between the body and mind. Furthermore, yoga guides individuals towards a holistic, peaceful, and fulfilling lifestyle, he said. Modi stressed that physically and mentally empowered citizens play a key role in nation-building, and yoga serves as a powerful tool in achieving this objective.
