Yoga Sangam: 3,000 to gather at Bengaluru's Vidhana Soudha for International Yoga Day
The state is set to celebrate the day - June 21- with various events, including the standardized yoga routine outlined by the Central government. The mega yoga event at the Vidhana Soudha will be inaugurated by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot.
The program will run from 6 am to 8 am, with similar events being held simultaneously at various district and taluk centres.
The celebration, titled "Yoga Sangam," will be organized in collaboration with multiple yoga organizations, civil society groups, and other partners. A 45-minute session following the common yoga protocol developed by the AYUSH Ministry will be the key feature of the event.
Top state officials including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, state ministers, MLAs, MLCs, and notable yoga gurus from Karnataka are expected to attend the Vidhana Soudha program.
'A special 100-day countdown campaign to International Yoga Day is already underway. The Department of AYUSH, Government of Karnataka, has begun organising several innovative programmes, including 11 national-level yoga competitions in collaboration with the Government Ayurveda Research Centre in Mysuru,' Gundu Rao said, as quoted by news agency PTI.
Additionally, around 300 Ayushman Health and Wellness Centres in rural parts of the state will host their own yoga day events.
A large-scale Yoga Mahakumbh is also planned at the Mysore Palace grounds, where approximately 15,000 people are expected to join.
On the same day, Yoga Sangam events will be conducted in all 30 district centres, each targeting at least 5,000 participants. Nationally, the Government of India aims to organize Yoga Sangam events at 100,000 locations, with Karnataka contributing around 10,000 of these programs.
The Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in Karnataka has submitted a request to the Centre to officially recognize Mysuru as a 'Yoga District', according to The Hindu. As part of this initiative, the goal is to ensure that at least one person in every household across the district learns and regularly practices yoga.

As soon as ambulance sirens began sounding in the emergency block, the team swung into action, he said. 'Without losing any time, porters and helpers took the patient trolleys to the triage room, where medical teams immediately started providing treatment. There was no time to lose and split-second decisions were taken,' he said. The critically-ill patients were put on ventilators, and those requiring emergency surgeries were shifted to the operation theatres, Gupta said. Govt to set up 1.1k Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, 166 ready
New Delhi: Delhi govt intends to set up 1,100 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, of which 166 are ready. Alongside, five major hospital expansions will be completed this month, adding 1,300 new beds, new OPDs and advanced medical equipment to the city's healthcare infrastructure. Chief minister Rekha Gupta said Delhi's hospitals were being integrated into the Hospital Information Management System (HIMS), which would allow patients to book appointments online, access digital health records and receive unique health IDs. CM said that medicine procurement would now be centralised to ensure transparency and efficiency. She said these initiatives would form the foundation for a stronger, more inclusive healthcare system in the city. Govt officials said seven ongoing hospital projects in the capital would be redeveloped as super-specialty ICU centres, each dedicated to treating specific critical conditions such as cancer, high-risk deliveries and organ transplants. "The foundation we have laid in healthcare, sports and youth welfare will strengthen generations to come," she said. Mumbai witnesses two deaths during Dahi Handi festivities; 95 injured
Mumbai, Aug 16 (PTI) The death toll in 'Dahi Handi' festivities in Mumbai on Saturday touched two after a 14-year-old 'govinda' was declared dead on arrival by doctors in a hospital in Ghatkopar, a civic official said. Rohan Mohan Malvi, part of the Gaondevi Govinda Pathak, fell unconscious while sitting in a tempo in Adarsh Nagar area of Andheri East, the official said, adding he did not take part in the pyramid formation since he had recently suffered a bout of jaundice. 'He was rushed to Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar where doctors declared him dead on arrival," he said. Earlier, in the afternoon, a 32-year-old man fell to death while tying 'Dahi Handi' in Mankhurd in the north eastern part of the metropolis, officials said. The deceased was identified as Jagmohan Shivkiran Chaudhari. 'He was tying the handi (an earthen pot filled with curd which groups of 'govindas' try to reach and break by forming a human pyramid) to a rope from the first-floor window grille of his house in Maharashtra Nagar when he fell. He was taken to civic-run Shatabdi Govandi Hospital where he was declared brought dead," an official said. As on 9pm, the number of persons injured during the festivities stood at 95, the condition of two being serious, the official said. 'Of the 95 govindas, 76 were discharged after the treatment, while 19 are hospitalized. The 95 comprise 30 in the island city, 31 in the eastern suburbs and 34 in the western part of the city," he informed. Dahi Handi festival is celebrated across Maharashtra to mark the birth of Lord Krishna. The festival sees troupes of young men and women forming human pyramids to break dahi handis (pots of curd) suspended in the air with ropes.
