Malaysia puts anti-dumping duties on some China, South Korea, Vietnam iron, steel
The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) said in a statement that this preliminary determination in the anti-dumping duty investigation was made under Section 23 of the Countervailing and Anti-Dumping Duties Act 1993.
"Therefore, the government has decided to impose a provisional anti-dumping duty, in the form of a bank guarantee, equivalent to the identified dumping margin in the preliminary determination, ranging from 3.86 per cent and 57.90 per cent on imports of the subject merchandise from China, South Korea, and Vietnam, to prevent further material injury to the domestic industry during the investigation.
"The imposition of temporary anti-dumping duties will be effective for a period not exceeding 120 days, starting from July 7, 2025, and a final determination will be made on or before Nov 3, 2025," it said.
According to MITI, the government initiated the anti-dumping investigation on Feb 6, and based on this preliminary determination, the investigation will proceed.
The probe, conducted under the Countervailing and Anti-Dumping Duties Regulations 1994, was initiated following a petition filed by CSC Steel Sdn Bhd.
The petitioner, representing the local industry producing similar products, alleged that the subject goods originating from the China, South Korea, and Vietnam were imported into Malaysia at prices lower than those in their respective domestic markets, causing material injury to the Malaysian industry.
However, MITI stressed that interested parties, including importers, producers, foreign exporters, or relevant associations, are invited to provide comments or views on the preliminary determination report.
Submissions must be made no later than July 14, 2025.
"Interested parties may obtain the non-confidential version of the Preliminary Determination report via the Trade Remedies Investigation Management (TRIMA) system at https://traderemedies.miti.gov.my/," said MITI. - Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for an increase in intra-BRICS trade and for the grouping to emerge as a strong and principled force, grounded in equity, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to shaping a more balanced and just international order. Anwar firmly asserted that developing countries should no longer be regarded as peripheral players in the global system. "We are not merely heirs of post-colonial history. We have now risen as a dignified force with our strengths in technology, trade, leadership, and the moral voice of the world," he said. "BRICS today goes beyond political rhetoric. The BRICS group - which serves as a political and diplomatic coordination forum for countries of the Global South with collaboration across diverse sectors - was initially established by Brazil, Russia, India and China. It later expanded with the inclusion of South Africa in 2011, followed by Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2023, and Indonesia in 2024. Malaysia, as well as Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Nigeria, Thailand, Vietnam, Uganda, and Uzbekistan, were accepted as BRICS partner countries. Anwar arrived earlier today to attend the 17th BRICS Leaders' Summit hosted by Brazil at the invitation of Lula. PM to push trade ties at BRICS Summit in Brazil
PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will have a packed programme in Brazil with the highlight being his participation in the 17th BRICS Summit. Malaysia's acting head of mission in Brazil Datuk Mohammad Ali Selamat said the Prime Minister will arrive in the Brazilian capital of Rio de Janeiro today at the invitation of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. He said Anwar will participate in the Presidential Panel session during the BRICS Business Forum. 'The event will be attended by Brazil's president and is expected to include leaders of BRICS member countries,' he said in a virtual interview with selected Malaysian media from the Brazilian capital. The BRICS Business Forum will bring together over 1,000 business leaders, government officials, international organisations and experts from the countries concerned along with other invited nations, to foster economic and international trade cooperation, besides sustainable development. Held annually on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit, the forum aims to offer private sector perspectives to BRICS leaders on tackling shared challenges and advancing common business priorities. Mohamad Ali said the Prime Minister, who is making his second visit to Brazil, is also scheduled to hold meetings with corporate leaders from Brazil and Malaysia on business and investment opportunities. He will then attend the 17th BRICS Leaders Summit at the Museum of Modern Art, and deliver Malaysia's national statement during the session on Strengthening Multilateralism, Economic-Financial Affairs and Artificial Intelligence. The strategic engagement took place during a recent official working visit by senior Timor Leste government representatives to Malaysia. This was when the regional digital identity systems specialist demonstrated its secure biometric-powered digital identity solution which is designed to integrate key public and private sectors spanning banking, healthcare, telecommunications, education and civil registries to the Timor Leste delegation. Zchwantech's presentation was well received with Timor Leste's government officials expressing strong interest and satisfaction in the platform's potential to support the country's E-Governance Roadmap and its Vision 2025 for an inclusive and connected society.
