Egypt bought several hundred thousand tons of wheat for July/Aug delivery, sources say
The exact volume of the purchases was still unclear, but all sources referred to several hundred thousand tons. Egypt's wheat purchases had fallen sharply in the first half of this year after hefty shipments in the second half of 2024.
One said the sale was for between 300,000 and 400,000 tons, another that a state-owned company was looking for 600,000 tons and a third that both state-owned and private buyers had sold a total of between 800,000 and 1 million tons.
The sales would be of Russian, Ukrainian and Romanian origins, they said.
Prices reported ranged from $250 to $258 per ton, cost and freight included.
The state buyer told Reuters last week it was in advanced talks to secure hundreds of thousands of tons of wheat with suppliers from other EU origins, but had not named the countries.

Egypt plans new submarine power cable to Jordan: report
Egypt is planning to build another submarine power cable to Jordan with a capacity of 2,000 megawatts (MW) to supply electricity to Syria, Iraq and Lebanon, a Saudi news network reported on Tuesday. The project will be completed in 2029 and will quadruple the present power supply to Jordan, Asharq Business said, quoting an Egyptian government source. 'Egypt is planning to export electricity to Iraq, Syria and Lebanon via a submarine cable to Jordan with a capacity of 2,000 project is still under study,' the report said. It added that the new cable would start from Taba town in South Sinai and stretch to the Gulf of Aqaba on the Red Sea. The project is expected to be completed within 30 months, the report said, noting that Egypt is preparing to invite consultancy bids for the project. According to the report, Egypt is already linked to Jordan via a 500 MW capacity submarine cable which was built in 1999. Ivory Coast cocoa grind plunges 31% in July on poor bean quality
Ivory Coast's cocoa grind dropped sharply in July, down 31.2% year-on-year to 39,301 metric tonnes, according to exporters' association GEPEX. The fall reflects lower volumes and poor-quality beans during the mid-crop season, exporters said. From the start of the 2024/25 season in October through July, total grind reached 515,055 tonnes, a 4% decrease compared to the same period last year. "July's grinding has fallen dramatically this year compared to last year, mainly due to the quality of the beans," the director of an international grinding company based in San Pedro told Reuters. "They are mediocre this year, so we are rejecting a large quantity due to a lack of fat and a high acidity level." Lower port arrivals Between April 1 and August 17, cocoa bean arrivals at the main ports of Abidjan and San Pedro were 350,000 tonnes – down 30% from about 500,000 tonnes during the same period last year. Exporters said grinders currently have no stocks and will need to rebuild them once the main crop begins in October. "We are waiting for October to get good beans to rebuild all our stocks and return to the grinding level for the period, i.e. just over 58,000 tonnes per month," said the director of a grinding company based in Abidjan. "This will require us to be aggressive in our purchasing from the start of the season." The GEPEX data covers six of the largest grinding companies, including Barry Callebaut, Olam, and Cargill Inc. Ivory Coast has a total grinding capacity of around 750,000 tonnes. It is the world's top cocoa producer and vies with the Netherlands for the leading spot in cocoa processing.
