Woman Smokes On Istanbul-Cyprus Flight, Threatens To ‘Blow' It Up

The woman blatantly violated in-flight safety regulations, which strictly prohibit passengers from smoking inside the plane. A shocking incident on a flight has been going viral on the Internet, where a female passenger was seen smoking inside the cabin. The incident took place on a flight from Istanbul to Cyprus. The woman, dressed in a blue burqa and sunglasses, was seen sitting by the window when she began smoking a cigarette inside the plane. She blatantly violated in-flight safety regulations, which strictly prohibit passengers from smoking inside the plane. As seen in the clip, the woman, who was sitting alone in her row, takes a puff and pulls down her burqa to exhale the smoke discreetly into the cabin air. However, the smell gave her away. A man, sitting on the seat in front of her, quickly looked back at her to check if she was really smoking. He then removed the seat cover to prevent any mishap. The cabin crew, too, acted swiftly and snatched the cigarette from her hand. Things took a turn for the worse as the woman then took out a lighter and tried to set the cover of the seat on fire. She did not stop there. The woman then took out a piece of white cloth and tried to light that as well. But the crew acted immediately and tried to take away her lighter, which she resisted. Another crew member reached her seat with a bottle of water, pouring it over the flame to extinguish it. The video shared by The Sun on Monday, August 11, on X has garnered over 2.5 million views. People have expressed concerns over violations of such safety regulations, while a section slammed her for her actions. Meanwhile, a few other users pointed out that the incident happened years ago and isn't a recent one. Reportedly, the bizarre incident took place in 2019. According to several media reports, the original video was posted on X, where the woman on the plane going from Istanbul to Northern Cyprus threatened to 'blow up" the aircraft as it was taxiing at the Istanbul airport. She shouted, 'I am an FETO member, and I will blow up the aircraft." The woman was later detained by the authorities. She was allegedly from the Gülen organisation, which has been classified by Turkiye as a terrorist organisation under the names Fethullah Terrorist Organisation (FETO) and Parallel State Structure (PDY). 'Bedroom Jihadis' become a nuisance for security agencies in J&K

Security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir are grappling with a new and insidious threat in the form of " bedroom jihadis " -- people who manipulate social media from the safety of their homes to spread misinformation and incite communal discord , officials said. This kind of enemy, far removed from the traditional armed terrorists, is at the heart of a sophisticated cross-border effort to destabilise the region, the officials said. The trend emerged in 2017 but ended after an effective crackdown with curbs on the Internet post abrogation of the special status of the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir in 2019. Live Events After the successful completion of assembly elections last year, the "bedroom jihadis" have surfaced again, possibly with an aim to destablise the elected government and create a sense of unrest, the officials said. Security agencies have also uncovered a sophisticated and concerted effort by terror groups and their sympathisers operating from across the border to use social media platforms to incite sectarian clashes and destabilise the region. The investigation, which has been underway for several weeks, involved scrutinising thousands of social media posts, comments and private messages and its analysis provided compelling evidence of a direct link between these malicious online activities and handlers located in Pakistan. During Muharram days observed by the Shia community recently, there was tension between the two sects of the Muslim community over a post but effective handling by Srinagar police doused the fire before it could spread, the officials said. Former Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police Kuldeep Khoda says the successful identification and disruption of this cross-border social media plot highlight the evolving nature of threats to security in Jammu and Kashmir. "While traditional terror activities remain a concern, the digital battlefield is increasingly becoming a front where external forces seek to destabilise the region by exploiting local tensions, which should be nipped in the bud," he feels. In the recent past, the virtual nature of this conflict was seen in a case where the personal details of Kashmiri Pandit migrants appointed under the Prime Minister's rehabilitation scheme were leaked on various social media platforms. The malicious act, intended to create fear within the minority community, was swiftly countered by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and their investigation led to the arrest of a local youth who had been directed from across the border to carry out the act. Officials coined the term "bedroom jihadis" to describe these people who operate in a virtual battleground where a "bloody war is fought, but with words". However, this has a significant impact on young minds and the ease with which a rumour can spread poses a significant challenge, the officials said and explained, "Anyone, while sitting on his bed or sofa, can plant a fake news in one of the thousand chat groups and the entire Union Territory can plunge into communal divide." Many X (formerly Twitter) users have created fake accounts to spread fake narratives being peddled from across the border. "It is like finding a needle in a haystack, but nevertheless effective policing has led to blocking or nabbing such elements," another official said. The reach of these chat groups and social media posts extends beyond Jammu and Kashmir, with participation from youngsters in the national capital, other parts of India, and abroad. The law enforcement authorities have made preventive detentions of several people suspected of being directly involved in the online campaign or acting as local conduits for cross-border handlers.

Alumnus planned school students kidnapping for 8-10 days, say cops

An alumnus of Bishop Cotton School (BCS), Sumit Sood, who was arrested for allegedly kidnapping three class VI students of the school, had planned the crime for the past eight to 10 days and used his familiarity with the school protocols to his advantage. Shimla SP Sanjeev Gandhi said that Sood, 43, introduced himself as a former Cottonian and lured the students by offering them a lift till Auckland Tunnel. However, after crossing Dhalli in the suburbs of Shimla town, Sood threatened the children by showing a revolver, he added. He also used a California-based VPN number to make threatening Internet calls to the children's parents, police said. The breakthrough in the case came when the vehicle (with a Delhi registration number) used in the crime, was identified in CCTV footage. The parents of the missing students received calls that their children were with a gang, but there was no explicit ransom demand, said the SP. A local youth, Raunak from Kotkhai, played a key role in cracking the case. Raunak, who works in Chol and is in the transport business, met two constables, Pawan and Hitesh, who showed him CCTV footage of the vehicle used in the crime. 'After seeing the footage, I was sure the vehicle belonged to Sood. I called him, but he didn't answer. We visited his house, checked the vehicle, and confirmed it was the same as in the footage,' Raunak said. He added that the car matched the CCTV footage, down to its broken bumper, damaged fog light, and distinctive reflector side mirrors. 'Although the number plate was changed, these details confirmed it was the same car. Having been in the transport business for 15 years, I can easily identify vehicles by its features,' Raunak said, adding that it was difficult to believe that Sood was involved in such a crime, given his good behavior, education, and background, and that he had no known involvement with drugs. Sumit was subsequently arrested. The rescued students were from Mohali in Punjab, Hisar in Haryana and Kullu in Himachal Pradesh. Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, whose relative was one of the missing children, was also in Kotkhai with the police. Raunak was later honoured by Himachal Pradesh Education Minister Rohit Thakur with a Himachali cap and a shawl. Kotkhai resident Sood was then arrested for allegedly kidnapping three minor students with the intention of demanding ransom. Police also recovered firearm, sharp-edged weapons, and a fake number plate from him. Sood reportedly told police that the recovered firearm is a licenced weapon registered in his father's name. Sood, an engineering graduate who studied at BCS till Class 8, was on Monday was produced before the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMIC) Jyoti Bhagchandani and was remanded in two days of police custody.
