Indian CEO slams Elon Musk's Tesla for returning $1,000 reservation fee paid in 2017
Harsh Jain, CEO of Dream11, took to Elon Musk's social media platform X to voice his disappointment with the billionaire's other company - Tesla. The Indian CEO said that in 2017, when Tesla was supposed to debut in India, he had paid $1,000 to reserve a Model 3. Nearly a decade later, Tesla's long-awaited debut in India has still not materialized, the least-expensive Model 3 has been discontinued, and Jain's reservation fee has been returned to him. The Dream11 CEO is not happy. In a scathing post shared on X, Harsh Jain called out Elon Musk and Tesla for refunding his $1,000 reservation fee after eight years and taking away his priority slot. He shared a screenshot of the message he received from the electric carmaker informing him that the 'original Model 3' of his reservation is one of the products that Tesla has replaced. 'Wow Elon Musk, do you know Tesla is turning ALL its fans and early believers in India into haters?' Jain asked in his X post. 'I had paid $1k for a priority slot in March 2017 for Tesla's India launch. Now that Tesla is FINALLY launching almost 10 YEARS later they're only going to refund me $1k and take away my priority slot?' he revealed. The Dream11 CEO noted that if he had invested this $1,000 in Tesla shares back in 2017, they would have been worth upwards of $20,000 today. 'Even if I had just invested this $1k in Tesla in March 2017, it would be worth ~$20k now. Way to show fans that Tesla doesn't care,' he wrote. Tesla told Jain in what appears to be an email that it is in the process of finalizing its product offerings in India. The company also informed Jain that it would return the $1,000 fee he paid to reserve a Model 3 back in 2017. Read the full text of the email below: 'Thank you for your support in Tesla and being an early reservation holder of the Model 3. As Tesla continues to grow, our product lineup continues to evolve. In the past few years, many of our products back at the time have been replaced, and many new products have been introduced. The original Model 3 in your reservation was one of the products that have been replaced. 'Model 3 in your reservation was one of the products that have been replaced. 'As such, we would like to return your reservation fee for the time being. When we finalize our product offerings in India, we will reach out in the market again. We hope to see you back with us once we are ready to launch and deliver in the country. Your patience and support are greatly appreciated, and Tesla won't be where we are today without early supporters like you.' Tesla, which has for years planned an India market entry, posted a number of mid-level jobs in India in February. (Also read: Tesla hiring in India: After Mumbai, Musk's company offering job in this city | What is it, who can apply, how to apply) One June 3, news agency PTI reported that Tesla India has taken on lease a warehousing space in Mumbai at a starting monthly rent of ₹37.53 lakh. Real estate data analytics firm CRE Matrix has reviewed the registration documents. "Tesla's India entry is taking shape through a deliberate, multi-city rollout -- from its office in Pune to flagship showrooms in BKC and Delhi-NCR, co-working presence in BKC and now a strategic warehousing facility in Kurla-West Mumbai. This 24,565 sq ft lease at ₹153 per square feet is more than a real estate transactions -- its a signal of intent," CRE Matrix CEO Abhishek Kiran Gupta said.

Auto ride in Bengaluru to get costlier; base fare at Rs 36
BENGALURU: The base autorickshaw fare is expected to increase from the existing Rs 30 to Rs 36, and the subsequent per-kilometre charges from Rs 15 to Rs 18, according to highly placed sources. Autorickshaw drivers and unions have been repeatedly urging the government to increase the fares for a long time. They have been demanding that the base fare be revised to Rs 40 and the per-kilometre charge to Rs 20. Officials from the 10 Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) falling within the city limits, Deputy Commissioners of Police (Traffic) and representatives from the auto drivers' unions will be part of the District Transport Authority (DTA), which will decide the fare revisions after considering factors like existing fuel prices, traffic condition in the city and passenger demand. Based on the recommendation, the Bengaluru Urban deputy commissioner, who chairs DTA, will take the final decision on fare revision. 'Auto fares not revised since 2021' According to sources from the Bengaluru Urban DC office, the revised fares are Rs 36 and Rs 18 and is awaiting the nod of Bengaluru Urban DC Jagadeesha G. The source said the DC is heading the magisterial probe into the stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium and is completely occupied with that work and once he gets free, the fares will be announced officially. Auto unions like the Autorickshaw Drivers' Union, Adarsh Auto and Taxi Drivers' Union said that they will get into the streets if the revised fares are not Rs 40 and Rs 20. 'Fares have not been revised since 2021. In all these years, prices of many things have increased. We urge the auto fare revision to be linked to the Wholesale Price Index,' said General Secretary of ARDU Rudra Murthy. Manjunath M, President of Adarsh Auto and Taxi Drivers' Union, said, 'The cost of new autos, which were Rs 1.85 lakh, is now Rs 2.85 lakh. The cost of a single bedroom has doubled from Rs 4,000 to Rs 8,000. Cost of all essentials has been increasing year after year, but the auto fares have remained the same without revision for years.' He questioned how the auto drivers are supposed to run their families.

Rare earth magnet crunch hits Maruti's e-Vitara production plan
NEW DELHI: In one of the first major companies to go for production cuts due to a shortage in rare earth magnet supplies from China, top carmaker Maruti Suzuki decided to cut back on the initial production schedule for its first electric car, the e-Vitara, by over two-thirds in the first half of this fiscal to factor in the squeeze in part shipments. While the company's original production plan to manufacture around 67,000 units by March 2026 remains in place, it will 'go slow in the first half of the fiscal' where it is building inventory for exports as well as some sales in the Indian market, supplier sources told TOI. 'The original production plan for the FY26 April-September period was to do around 27,000 units. This now looks challenging, and Maruti Suzuki is looking to do only around 8,000 units or a little over that,' the sources said. A spokesperson for the company refused to comment on the matter. It is not yet clear whether the company will delay the launch of the e-Vitara, which is its first battery-electric vehicle (BEV) in the country. The e-Vitara is being produced at Maruti's plant in Gujarat, and the company hoped to begin sales by the start of the festive season in the second half of the fiscal. The company showcased the car at the Auto Expo held in the national capital earlier this year and plans to take on electric models from Tata Motors , Mahindra & Mahindra, JSW MG Motor, and Hyundai with the green car. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like May 2025: Top 5 Dividend Stocks [Read Now] Seeking Alpha Read Now Undo Sources said that the shortage of magnets, used for components like speedometers, electric motors, e-axles, electric water pumps, automatic transmission kits, speakers, sensors, and ignition coils in engines, is also seeing Maruti re-calibrate production plans for other models. 'The company is assessing dealer inventory levels for various models and using the rare earth magnet inventory for cars that have a higher demand. The work on re-calibration of production plans is in progress. Almost daily assessments are being carried out to be in line with the market realities related to the availability of magnets,' one of the sources said. The e-Vitara is one of the most ambitious products from Maruti Suzuki, and the company plans to sell it across continents including Asia, Europe, Latin America, and Africa, and the home market India. The plan is to also do product-sharing with Toyota, which will be selling the car under a different badge and distinct design cues. This is in line with the product-sharing plans already in place between the two Japanese companies. Maruti officials have been negotiating with govt officials on the matter of magnet supplies, and through the industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, the company has been seeking facilitation for an early resolution of the matter. The company is among those who submitted applications for getting supplies of the crucial ingredient through the process mandated by the Chinese govt. However, with delays from the Chinese side, there has been a demand that the govt and the Indian embassy in China intervene to hasten the approval process. The company recently said it would be difficult to give "very specific details" on the magnet crisis until it receives a response to its application submitted for consideration by the Chinese govt. "It is not a restriction. It is an endorsement of end use. In case there is an issue, we will inform all our stakeholders, including the stock exchange," Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Director, Corporate Affairs, said.
