Watch: Futuristic or Frightening? Robot dog's mall visit sparks debate

Time of Indiaa day ago

In a moment that left many stunned and reaching for their phones, a robot dog casually walking on a leash through San Antonio's Rivercenter Mall has sparked widespread attention online.
The unexpected sight, caught on camera by a local TikTok user, has since triggered a wave of reactions across social media, from fascination to outright discomfort.
The incident took place on the night of Tuesday, May 27, around 9 p.m., when the TikTok page San Antonio Lifestyle recorded the scene and shared it with their followers. As the robot walked past shops and unsuspecting mall goers, the creator's startled reaction was heard clearly in the video: 'What in the hell is that?'
'It's scary to know the future is here'
Speaking to MySA, the person behind the viral video said, 'We had never seen one before and our first impression was disbelief.
It's scary to know the future is here.' The clip shows the robot being led through the mall by a person, with several onlookers visibly taken aback.
Watch the video here:
At one point, the robot stops abruptly and begins stomping in place– a movement that seemed to confuse both its handler and those watching. The content creator can be heard reacting further, saying, 'Dude, that's so crazy,' as the robot hesitates before slowly moving again.

Speculated to be a Unitree Go2 robot
According to the report presented by MySA, while the exact model of the robot hasn't been confirmed, several viewers pointed out that its appearance– including its size, leg design and the number '2' near its head– closely matches that of the Unitree Go2.
According to Unitree and as quoted by MySA, the Go2 robot features a built-in front camera, 12 knee-joint motors, and a lamp that lights up its path. It is also capable of performing various motions like jumping, sitting, stretching, or pouncing.
According to the TikTok creator, 'they can hear the robot making a dog noise,' which further added to the surprise of the moment.
Reportedly a regular visitor at the mall
Although the robot's owner did not interact with the people filming, the video creator told MySA, 'We didn't talk to them, but according to the comments we received, they [the robot and its owners] frequent Rivercenter often.'
The robot's movements and lifelike gestures drew mixed reactions from shoppers and viewers alike– many of whom had never seen such a device in a public space before.
Online reactions: Mixed feelings and unease
The internet was quick to respond. One viewer commented on the viral video, 'Yeah, I'm running after seeing that.' Another video, shared two days later on May 29, shows the robot dog walking closer to the San Antonio River. That prompted one user to write, 'It's giving Austin invading San Antonio.'
Robot dogs are not new to Texas streets
Though this may be a first for many in San Antonio, robot dogs have previously been spotted in other parts of Texas. According to earlier reports, in 2022, the University of Texas at Austin deployed similar machines for on-campus delivery services. More recently, a video showing a robot dog interacting with real dogs in an Austin park gained attention– and criticism.
One user, reacting to that clip, said, 'I couldn't hate these things more.'

Dhanashree Verma on her mother's viral paparazzi moment: 'She simply spoke the truth... Just a proud mom, not a PR game'

Dhanashree Verma candidly discusses life post-divorce, emphasizing the strength she derives from her family and her resilience against online scrutiny. She highlights her mother's supportive words and her focus on personal and professional growth amidst public narratives. Dhanashree remains grounded through her craft, spirituality, and a commitment to positivity, choosing to prioritize self-improvement and genuine support over negativity. In an exclusive interview with ETimes, Dhanashree Verma opened up like never before—reflecting on life after divorce, the strength she's drawn from her family, and the challenges of navigating fame in the age of social media. With grace and candour, the choreographer-actress spoke about rising above personal trials, online scrutiny, and how a deeply rooted sense of purpose and spirituality continue to anchor her in both her personal and professional life. Excerpts... Dhanashree opened up about navigating personal challenges, public scrutiny, and the unwavering support of her family—especially her mother, who recently went viral for praising her strength and growth post-divorce. Reacting to the moment, she said, "My mother recently praised my hard work, and it was such a special, organic moment. We were just walking out of a store when it happened. It wasn't planned, just something heartfelt that was captured naturally. I usually keep my family away from the entertainment world to protect them from negativity. Why would anyone want their parents to be targeted or dragged into something they didn't sign up for?" Her mother's words were simple and sincere, not part of any promotional effort. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với sàn môi giới tin cậy IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo "My mother simply spoke the truth. She's not playing any PR game; she's just a proud mom. Some people tried to twist that moment, but I didn't let it affect me, my family, or my work. I've been dealing with online noise since the beginning, right from when I first went viral doing song covers on Instagram and YouTube. People now say my fame is tied to a certain relationship, but that's not true. I had already built a name for myself in the industry," she added. Navigating public opinion with resilience, she chooses to stay grounded in what matters most. Dhanashree said, "Trolling and negativity are, unfortunately, part of fame. But I've learned to focus on what matters: my craft, my growth, and the people who genuinely support me. There will always be those who focus only on the negative, but I choose not to engage. You attract what you focus on, and I choose positivity. Whether it was before or after my divorce, my mindset hasn't changed. I stay focused on delivering my best work. At the end of the day, I just want to come home feeling content with what I've created, and that's what keeps me going." Addressing the narratives that often surround public figures during personal transitions, she made it clear that much of what's said doesn't align with her reality. "The narratives circulating around me are far from the truth. None of it reflects who I am, and I don't engage with it because I know my values, my upbringing, and the kind of person I am. I've always believed in maintaining dignity and grace. Putting others down has never been my way, and it never helps anyone rise in life," she said. For her, the focus remains firmly on her own journey. She added, "What truly matters is staying focused on your work, your intentions, and the good people around you. Self-growth, self-love, and discipline have always guided me. I believe that when you waste energy on negativity, you take away from your own growth. I choose to put that energy into becoming better every day." "I'm a deeply spiritual person, and my faith in God and the universe keeps me grounded. At the end of the day, I believe your success, your values, and your truth will eventually speak for themselves, and that's all that really matters," she concluded.

4 dynamic events we want to see in GTA 6's open world

(Image via Rockstar Games) Open-world games hit different when the world doesn't feel dead. You know what we're talking about. Those random moments when you're just cruising, vibing… and suddenly something chaotic, hilarious, or weirdly realistic happens. GTA 6 is the most hyped game on the planet right now, and if Rockstar really wants to cook, it needs dynamic events that make Leonida feel alive. So here are 4 dynamic open-world events we seriously hope to see in GTA 6. If Rockstar adds even two of these, we're locking in 500+ hours easy. 1. Roadside Crimes You Can Intervene In (or Not) You're cruising down the highway and BAM - there's a guy getting carjacked or a store being robbed. Do you stop and play hero? Chase the thief? Or pretend you didn't see it and keep driving? Imagine GTA 6 having random crimes happening around the map that you can choose to get involved in. Help the victim and maybe they reward you. Or steal from both and disappear into the streets. It's your call, but every choice could affect how NPCs or cops treat you later. GTA 6's Storm System Might Be INSANE – Are HURRICANES Coming?! 2. Flash Floods, Hurricanes, and Natural Disasters Leonida is based on Florida, right? So where's the chaos without some insane weather events? Imagine driving through Vice City and suddenly sirens go off—a hurricane is hitting. Streets start flooding, people panic, power cuts out. Absolute mayhem. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pinga-Pinga e HBP? Add realism and challenge? Yes please. 3. Street Performers, Protests, and Pop-Up Events One moment you're shopping in Ocean Beach, the next there's a crowd gathered around a dancer, or a protest blocking traffic. These kinds of living-world moments make cities feel legit. You could cheer, tip, mock, or cause chaos, and how you react could go viral in GTA's in-game social media, affecting your reputation. Rockstar, this is free gold. The GTA6 Wanted System is Exciting (NEW RULES) 4. High-Speed Police Chases That Aren't About You It's always YOU running from the cops. But what if sometimes, you just happen to drive past another criminal's wild chase? Spikes on the road, helicopters overhead, suspects crashing through stores. Now imagine you follow that chase, interfere, or even loot the crash site once it's over. Pure GTA energy. GTA 6 doesn't just need more missions; it needs more moments . These dynamic events could make Leonida feel more real, more reactive, and way more fun. Rockstar, if you're reading this, don't just give us a game; give us the BEST game you have ever made.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang says Anthropic CEO is very wrong, and on almost everything he said about AI: Don't do it in a dark room and tell me ...

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang strongly refuted Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's predictions regarding AI-driven job automation during a press briefing. Huang dismissed Amodei's claim that AI could eliminate 50% of entry-level white-collar jobs within five years, advocating for transparent AI development. While acknowledging job transformation, Huang emphasized AI's potential to create new opportunities and boost productivity. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang expressed sharp disagreement with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei 's predictions about AI-driven job automation during a press briefing at VivaTech in Paris. Huang specifically challenged Amodei's recent claim that AI could eliminate up to 50% of entry-level white-collar jobs within five years, dismissing the notion as overly alarmist. 'I pretty much disagree with almost everything [Amodei] says,' Huang stated, critiquing three key points he attributed to Amodei: that AI is so dangerous only a select few should develop it, that it's too costly for widespread development, and that its power will lead to massive job losses. 'If you want things to be done safely and responsibly, you do it in the open … Don't do it in a dark room and tell me it's safe,' Huang added, advocating for transparent and collaborative AI development. What Anthropic CEO said on AI Amodei, in a recent Axios interview, had warned that AI could disrupt half of entry-level office roles and urged policymakers to prepare for economic impacts. Huang countered that while AI will transform jobs, it will also create new opportunities, citing increased productivity as a driver for hiring. 'Some jobs will be obsolete, but many jobs are going to be created,' he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 선납금·위약금 없이 벤츠를 원하는 기간만큼 이용하세요. 계약 만료시 반납, 인수 모두 가능합니다. 써치오토모빌 더 알아보기 Undo Anthropic on Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's statement In response, an Anthropic spokesperson clarified to Fortune that Amodei has never claimed only Anthropic should build AI. 'Dario has advocated for a national transparency standard for AI developers … so the public and policymakers are aware of the models' capabilities and risks,' the statement read. The spokesperson reaffirmed Amodei's concerns about AI's economic impact and his commitment to addressing them. Anthropic, founded in 2021 by Amodei and other ex-OpenAI researchers, prioritizes safety in AI development, a focus rooted in the founders' reported concerns over OpenAI's direction. The public clash between Huang and Amodei highlights ongoing debates in the AI industry about its societal and economic implications. AI Masterclass for Students. Upskill Young Ones Today!– Join Now
