Fire put out at Willard Avenue home in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Springfield Fire Department put out a kitchen fire in a home on Willard Avenue Tuesday evening.
Victim identified in deadly Greenfield workplace accident
Springfield Fire Captain Drew Garrett said that at around 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, the fire department received a report of a structure fire at 21 Willard Avenue. When the first fire crews arrived, they discovered a fire on the first floor of the home in the kitchen.
Fire crews were able to successfully put out the fire, with no injuries reported. The three residents of the home evacuated as a result of the fire, and Springfield Fire said that they are currently being assisted by the Red Cross.
The Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad have determined that the cause of the fire was accidental.

SOUTHWICK, Mass. (WWLP) – A beekeeper from Southwick was struck and killed by a vehicle while operating farm equipment in Ohio on Wednesday. In a police report 22News obtained from the Oregon Police Department in Ohio, at around 1:26 a.m. on Wednesday, officers were called to Brown Road for a report of a vehicle crash. The report says that a Chevy Silverado was traveling eastbound when it struck a fork-style farm vehicle traveling in the same direction from behind. He was taken to the St. Vincent Hospital for serious injuries, where he later died. He was identified as 35-year-old William (Billy) Crawford of Southwick, Massachusetts. Crawford is the owner of New England Apiaries on Klaus Anderson Road in Southwick and is known for Billy's C's raw honey. Bill graduated from the Hampden County Beekeepers Association Bee School and started his first beehive. In 2007, he started selling honey from a produce farm he worked at in Westfield before forming Pioneer Valley Apiary in what became New England Apiaries. The posted speed on Brown Road is 50 MPH. The report did not indicate any citations were given to the 20-year-old driver of the Silverado at this time. Springfield man to be sentenced in Chicopee murder case

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A man from Springfield is set to be sentenced to prison on Friday. Springfield man arrested after six-hour standoff on Byers Street Kaysone Walters was found guilty in the killing of 25-year-old Brianne Boiselle back in August of 2021. On August 11th, Boisselle was found on Baldwin Street in Springfield with several stab wounds and died from her injuries. An investigation led Springfield Police to apply for an arrest warrant for Walters, who was believed to be the suspect in the alleged murder and armed carjacking. Springfield police along with the U.S. Marshals Service, State Police and the Hampden County Sheriff's Department later learned that Walters left the state and was in Lakeland, Florida. On October 7th, the U.S. Marshals Florida Task Force went to Lakeland and spotted Walters attempting to run away. He was caught and arrested by the officers. Walter was charged with Fugitive from Justice Warrant and was brought back to Massachusetts to face murder charges.
