Andhra irrigation dept official in ACB net for taking bribe
ONGOLE: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials on Monday caught K Srinivasa Rao, a Senior Assistant at the Markapur Irrigation (Special Division) Office, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from contractor Y Srinivasa Reddy. The bribe was allegedly demanded for processing pending contractual bills.
According to ACB officials, the complainant had completed irrigation works and requested Rao to forward his bills for approval. However, Rao allegedly demanded Rs 30,000 to move the files. When the contractor refused, the officer withheld the bills, insisting on the bribe. Fed up, Reddy lodged a complaint with the Ongole ACB.
Following verification, ACB officials laid a trap. The contractor handed over the bribe to Rao in his office, where the ACB team apprehended him and seized the cash. A chemical test confirmed bribe traces on the accused, who was later arrested and will be produced before the ACB court in Nellore.

New Delhi: Delhi Police busted a 'Fake Loan' scam, arresting two men involved in duping citizens by impersonating representatives of a reputed finance company. Victims were lured with promises of high-value loans and duped of money under the guise of processing fees. According to police, the fraud came to light after a complaint was received on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) by a resident of Bhalswa Dairy. "The complainant reported being contacted by men posing as finance officials, who convinced him to transfer Rs 1.92 lakhs as processing and policy fees for a loan of Rs 25 lakhs. When no loan was received and unauthorised deductions surfaced, a case was registered," said DCP (outer north) Hareshwar V Swami. A police team used technical surveillance and financial tracking to trace the suspects. "Raids were carried out at Tilak Nagar and Sabhapur Extension, leading to the arrest of Pawan Kumar (36) on June 9 and Mohammad Rehbar (28) on June 13. Both were reportedly uncooperative during questioning," DCP Swami said. HC adjourns hearing in plea for CBI probe into Exalogic affairs
Kochi: High court on Tuesday adjourned to July 2 the hearing of the PIL seeking a CBI probe into the alleged financial transactions between CMRL and Exalogic Solutions, a defunct company owned by T Veena, daughter of chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan. While considering the petition, the bench of Chief Justice Nitin Jamdar and Justice Basant Balaji noted that notice had not been served to some of the respondents in the PIL, including the interim settlement board of the Income Tax department in New Delhi. The court directed the petitioner, senior journalist M R Ajayan, to take necessary steps regarding these respondents and adjourned the matter. Ajayan, in his petition, alleged that Exalogic Solutions received Rs 1.72 crore from CMRL as illegal gratification. He also sought an investigation into the alleged political nexus involving the chief minister and the companies concerned. Meanwhile, the chief minister and his daughter filed counter-affidavits in the PIL, denying all allegations against them. They contended that the petition lacks specific details or verifiable evidence, rendering it legally unsustainable and indicative of a fishing and roving enquiry.

Ferozepur police seizes 9.4 kg heroin and drug money, one held
FEROZEPUR: Under the ongoing state-wide campaign 'War against Drugs', the Ferozepur Police achieved a major success by seizing 9.4 kilograms of heroin a canal bridge in Zira area. Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested one accused identified as Harmesh Singh alias Ramesh (25), a resident of Basti Machhiain Zira while another accused, Ajay (28), is currently absconding. The police also recovered Rs. 2.10 lakh in drug money and a motorcycle (PB-67-D-9489) used in the smuggling operation. A case has been registered under sections 21 and 27A of the NDPS Act at City Zira police station. Giving details, Harmanbir Singh Gill, DIG, Ferozepur Range said the consignment was smuggled from across the Pakistan border, with close coordination between cross-border elements. 'We are investigating both backwards and forward links to dismantle the entire drug network,' he said adding that the recovery has potentially saved many young lives. No parent wants their child trapped in drugs. I urge all parents to stay emotionally and practically connected with their children and guide them wisely. The DIG also shared on date recoveries during the current year informing that 534 cases were registered and 686 accused were arrested. The drug recovery was 79.280 kg, opium 5.720 kg, poppy husk 592.350 kg, powder 25 g, tablets and capsules 21,977, besides the drug money recovery of Rs 78.45 lakh. In addition, Ferozepur police recovered 22 weapons, 9 magazines and 136 cartridges during this time. This major recovery reinforces the Punjab Police's commitment to eradicating drugs, especially in sensitive border zones like Ferozepur.
