KUALA LUMPUR: Maktab Rendah Sains Mara Kepala Batas will be changed to MRSM Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi on May 12.
Mara chairman Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the announcement will be made by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
"This is to recognise of all the great services and contributions of the former Umno president and prime minister, the late Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, as the 'Father of Human Capital Development'," he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, Asyraf Wajdi, who is Umno secretary-general, expressed thanks to voters and everyone that helped their win in the party's win in the recent Ayer Kuning state by-election.
He said the win proves that people have rejected the politics of racism, hatred, insults and perception games that make out Islam and the Malays as being threatened.

Call on federal agency to seek guidance first before distributing Aidiladha korban meat

Abdul Karim cuts the 'korban' meats before distributing them to villagers. KUCHING (June 8): A federal agency has been called on to first seek guidance from Islamic authorities in order to properly distribute Aidiladha 'korban' meat, according to Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah. The Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts said this in response to the federal Sarawak State Development Office (SDO), which held a 'korban' ritual in Kampung Asajaya Laut two days before Hari Raya Aidiladha. 'Animals that are slaughtered during Aidiladha, there are certain 'pahala' (rewards from God) — even the blood that flows from the sacrificed animals. 'However, if the animals are slaughtered two days before Aidiladha, then the meats are not 'korban meats; they are just ordinary meats distributed to the villagers. 'Before holding the 'ibadah korban' (sacrificial rites), the SDO director must first consult those who are knowledgeable in Islam,' he told reporters after distributing 'korban' meat at Masjid Darul Ehsan at Kampung Asajaya Laut in Asajaya today. While he commended such an act by the SDO, Abdul Karim warned organisers against associating such events with the 'korban' ritual. 'They may have good intentions, but if the supposed sacrificial meats were distributed before Aidiladha, then it is just a normal meat. Don't make assumptions — this can create confusion among the people.' Also present at the event was Kota Samarahan MP Datuk Rubiah Wang. abdul karim rahmah hamzah Hari Raya Aidiladha lead State Development Office

Ahmad Maslan pushes 'ABCDE' strategy to tackle unity govt issues

KUALA LUMPUR: An Umno Supreme Council member has proposed that party leaders and members adopt the "ABCDE" strategy to resolve issues within the unity coalition. Ahead of the divisional Umno meetings, which start tomorrow, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said Umno will continue to be part of the Madani government. "Challenges within the government must be tackled wisely," he said when contacted, adding that sensitive issues need to be explained by the party and the government during divisional meetings. A total of 191 Umno divisions will hold their meetings following the conclusion of branch, Wanita, Youth, and Puteri meetings last month. Elaborating on his strategy, Ahmad said "A" stands for activities. "We must continuously hold small and medium-scale activities, not just during festivities or election periods." He said "B" stands for "berpadu", or united machineries across the party's divisions and wings. Ahmad said "C" refers to branches (cawangan), including increasing grassroots membership, while "D" refers to data, specifically, the updating of voter information. Finally, Ahmad said "E" centres around managing the people's emotions regarding current issues. Meanwhile, Ahmad also voiced confidence that Umno would see a revival of its fortunes. "Victories in the four by-elections in Pelangai, Nenggiri, Mahkota, and Ayer Kuning are examples of Umno's resurgence and should serve as a source of motivation no matter which state we are in," he said. The divisional meetings are a precursor to the Umno General Assembly from Aug 20 to 23.
