GEORGE TOWN: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has paid a courtesy call on the newly appointed Yang Dipertua Negeri of Penang, Tun Ramli Ngah Talib, during his official visit to the state. The rural and regional development minister, who also attended a dinner with the Penang governor, noted with earnest attention the ideas and views that Ramli shared, describing them as highly inspirational and reflective of a strong concern for people's welfare and unity. Renaming MRSM Kepala Batas after Pak Lah a meaningful tribute, says Kamaluddin
KEPALA BATAS: Tan Sri Kamaluddin Abdullah expressed his gratitude to Malaysians, the government and close family friends for honouring his late father, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. Speaking at a ceremony to rename Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Kepala Batas MRSM Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Kamaluddin said it was never easy for a son to speak about losing a father, more so when the wound was fresh. The full hall was silent as he paused briefly before continuing, "Please forgive me if I get emotional." Kamaluddin extended his thanks to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Mara chairman Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, Kepala Batas Umno chairman Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, and many others who had stood by the family during this period of mourning. "Thank you to the entire government and everyone in Kepala Batas — friends, officers, neighbours and comrades — who worked so hard to ensure my father was honoured with such dignity. "It means even more that this tribute took place here in Kepala Batas, his hometown, where he grew up, served." Kamaluddin reflected on the decades his father, affectionately known as Pak Lah, devoted to Kepala Batas, saying for over 30 years, the district received Abdullah's love and service. "This is where his journey began, and it's only fitting it ends here — surrounded by those who knew him best," he said. Kamaluddin also spoke about the bond he shared with his father. "In our youth, we talked about heroes — Batman, Superman. But for me, my father was always my real hero. "My mother once told me, 'You don't need to look far for a role model. Just look at your father.' "I pray that by the end of my own life, my children will honour me the way I honour him," he added. He said since Abdullah's death, countless people had come forward with condolences and personal stories about Abdullah's patience, humility and compassion. "He never saw status — whether you were a national leader, a fisherman or a farmer, he treated everyone with equal kindness," he said of his father. Kamaluddin also invited Malaysians to reflect on Abdullah's legacy through his poem "Ku Cari Damai Abadi", which he described as a window into the soul of the man. "That poem tells you who he truly was — a humble servant of Allah who believed in peace, faith and duty. "His legacy is not found in towering buildings or titles, but in the way he lived — a guide for us and future generations. "If we truly internalise his words, this world will be a more peaceful and loving place, InsyaAllah," he said. "On behalf of my family, thank you — for remembering my father, for honouring him. "Only Allah can repay the love you have shown to our beloved Babah."

MRSM Kepala Batas renamed in Pak Lah's honour
KEPALA BATAS: Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Kepala Batas has been renamed in honour of Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. The proclamation was made by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in a ceremony here on Monday (May 12). The institution will now be officially known as MRSM Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. The change of name was made officially by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki as a tribute to fifth prime minister Abdullah in recognition of his decades of service to the country. MRSM Kepala Batas began operations on March 1, 2007 with the first intake of 359 students on April 16 that year. It was Abdullah himself who officially launched the college at a Federal Projects Inauguration Ceremony for the Kepala Batas parliamentary constituency on March 29, 2009. A native of Penang born in Bayan Lepas, Abdullah, who was popularly known as Pak Lah, passed away at the age of 85 on April 14. #NSTviral: Top SPM scorers should skip medicine 'if they seek high salary', says surgeon in TikTok post
KUALA LUMPUR: A Penang doctor has warned Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) top scorers not to pursue medicine if their goal is to earn a high income. In a TikTok post that has since gone viral, surgeon Dr Abdul Gafoor Mubarak said that doctors would face limited career prospects in the future as the field becomes saturated. "To those who scored straight As, do not pursue medicine this year. Why? In a few years, the number of doctors in Malaysia will be high. "Prospects of getting a job will be tougher, and the opportunity to specialise will be more difficult. "Not being a specialist usually means you won't earn much," he said in a TikTok post. He said medicine was a good choice when he was younger, as opportunities were vast, sharing that his class had only eight students. He advised the top scorers to pursue fields in Artificial Intelligence (AI), analytics, accounting, actuarial sciences, and finance management if their goal was to earn a high income. The post has since garnered over 179,000 views on TikTok. "My advice is consistent with the times. "For now, and for the next 10 years, the prospects for medicine aren't looking good. Maybe it will change," he lamented in the comments section after the post sparked discourse among netizens. Nonetheless, he encouraged those who were passionate to pursue their dreams. However, user @ecah_lapa opined differently."My Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) teacher always encouraged us to take medicine because Malaysia doesn't have enough specialists. If there are many (doctors) in the future, it's possible to specialise overseas; it's not that difficult. Medicine is important in Malaysia," the user said. Nonetheless, user @sanidehas said that being a doctor was a noble profession and would help people both in the real world and the afterlife.
