Trio tries to rob cash collection agent of ₹5 lakh in Chandigarh, held
Prompt action by Chandigarh Police led to the arrest of three men who tried to rob a cash collection agent in broad daylight in Sector 27 on Wednesday morning.
The victim, Pardeep, works for AU Small Finance Bank. Probe revealed that the robbery was pre-planned by Shubham Bharti, 29, a former employee of the bank, along with Angrej Singh, 25, of Hammad Lodra, Ferozepur, Punjab; and Amit Kumar, 25, of Baijnath, Kangra, Himachal Pradesh.
The trio had conducted a recce of the victim's routine before attacking him around 11.30 am on Wednesday, when he was returning to the bank after collecting ₹5 lakh from Grain Market in Sector 26.
As per FIR, two of the accused, riding a Honda Activa scooter, intercepted Pardeep near Sector 27. They attempted to snatch his cash bag and when he resisted, one of the accused attacked him with a knife, injuring his right hand.
Pardeep fell from his Activa and raised the alarm. As a crowd began to gather, one attacker fled on the scooter while the other escaped on foot.
A quick response from a nearby PCR personnel, constable Piyush, led to the arrest of Angrej, who was hiding inside a public toilet in Sector 27. Subsequently, Shubham and Amit were also arrested, and the Activa used in the robbery was recovered. The trio was produced before a local court and remanded to judicial custody.

The cybercrime cell of the Chandigarh Police Friday arrested two men for allegedly swindling Rs 11 lakh from a woman in an online job fraud. The accused have been identified as Sunny and Vijay Kumar, both residents of Singha Devi, Naya Gaon, Mohali. The FIR dated April 19 originated from a complaint filed by Snigdha Reddy, a resident of Sector 11-B, Chandigarh, who was allegedly cheated while seeking part-time employment online. She received a message via WhatsApp offering easy online tasks, such as liking videos and was subsequently added to a Telegram group where she was promised significant returns on advance payments, as per the complaint. Initially, the complainant invested Rs 1,000 and received Rs 1,300 in return, which created a false sense of trust, according to the police. She was then gradually manipulated into transferring larger sums under the pretext of earning higher profits, they said. Ultimately, she allegedly lost Rs 10,99,520 in the scam. During the investigation, financial and digital forensic tools were employed to trace the fraudulent transactions. The police found that Rs 50,000 was transferred to Sunny's bank account. He confessed to opening the account on commission, having been lured by another accused. Vijay Kumar, on the other hand, allegedly played a key role in introducing Sunny to the wider network behind the scam. During questioning, both accused admitted their involvement and disclosed the name of another prime suspect, who is currently absconding. Efforts are underway to apprehend him, the police said. The police have preserved all relevant digital and financial evidence, and further arrests and recoveries are expected as the investigation progresses.

Chandigarh: High court orders FIR in case of missing law intern
Following directions from the Punjab and Haryana high court, the Chandigarh Police have registered an FIR into the disappearance of a 21-year-old law intern who went missing from the Punjab and Haryana high court premises on March 17. The order to register an FIR in the case was passed by justice Rajesh Bhardwaj on May 22, following a petition filed by Hardik Sharma's father, Inderjeet Kumar. Inderjeet Kumar, a New Chandigarh resident and professional photographer, reported his son's disappearance after Hardik, who was undergoing apprenticeship training at the high court, failed to return on the afternoon of March 17. A Daily Diary Report (DDR) was initially filed at Sector 3 police station on March 18, but no significant progress was made until the court intervened. In his complaint, Inderjeet shared details of a threatening call he received on the day of Hardik's disappearance. The caller, identifying himself as Sunil Kumar, claimed to be the father of a girl named Sania and accused Hardik of eloping with his daughter. The caller issued severe threats, saying he would 'kill him and drown him in a river'. Another individual, identified as Harvinder Singh alias Harry of Sector 127, Mohali, also allegedly threatened Hardik and warned him to stay away from Sania. Inderjeet believes that both Sunil Kumar, from Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, and Harvinder Singh are involved in detaining his son at an undisclosed location. Upon the court's order, the Chandigarh Police have registered a case under Section 140(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities are actively pursuing leads and making efforts to locate Hardik and hold those responsible accountable.

18-year-old critically injured after being dragged for several kms by container truck
Panchkula: An 18-year-old youth is in critical condition and remains unconscious in intensive care after allegedly being dragged for several kilometres by a speeding container truck near the Chandimandir toll plaza. According to eyewitness Sunny, a resident of Majra Mehtab village in Kalka, he and his colleague Amit, from Islam Nagar, are employed at Sukhija Honda Agency in Kalka. On the afternoon of May 27, the duo visited Joshi Honda Agency in Industrial Area Phase-1, Panchkula, to collect new Activa scooters. While returning around 1.30–1.40 pm, Sunny was riding ahead, with Amit following behind. After crossing Chandimandir toll plaza, they pulled over to the roadside. Amit then informed Sunny that a container truck (registration number HR65-A-7511) had struck his Activa from behind, nearly causing him to lose control. In an attempt to stop the truck, Amit climbed onto its front bumper. However, the driver allegedly ignored him and continued driving at high speed, dragging Amit along the road. Despite repeated pleas and attempts by bystanders to intervene, the driver did not stop, even after passing Chandimandir traffic lights. Several persons followed the truck on their scooters, capturing video evidence of the incident. Eventually, near Tugra Gas Agency in Kalka, the truck driver allegedly pushed Amit off the vehicle, causing him to fall onto the roadside and sustain severe injuries. Amit was found unconscious and was rushed to Kalka hospital.
