Ireland defender secures West Ham extension and loan move to Nottingham Forest
Ireland defender Jessie Stapleton is targeting promotion to the Women's Super League with Nottingham Forest. The 20-year-old has joined the Championship side from West Ham on a season-long loan deal, the City Ground side confirmed on Monday. News of her move came along with details of a two-year contract extension with the Hammers. Stapleton is highly regarded by the London club and is fresh from a successful loan spell at Sunderland last season. The senior Ireland international spoke about her short-term goals after completing the move to Forest. She said: 'It's a very historic and ambitious club so I'm delighted to join, and I can't wait to get going. 'Talking to everyone involved at Forest, it showed the ambition of where they want the team to go. I'm looking to help the team get into the WSL, it's a big goal of mine.' Nottingham Forest head coach Carly Davies said: 'We are thrilled to have a player of Jessie's talent join us. 'At such a young age she already has a wealth of experience as a regular starter for the Republic of Ireland. 'Her tenacity, versatility and composure on the ball make her an exciting addition to our squad. We're looking forward to helping her develop and contribute to what we're building to at the Club.' Stapleton, who joined West Ham from Shelbourne two years ago, also spoke about her new deal. 'It's an honour to sign a new contract at West Ham United,' she said. 'I've been here for two years now, and the Club has been superb for me in that time, both on and off the pitch. 'I've had two beneficial loan spells over the last two seasons, and it's clear that the Club have a development plan in place for me. 'I'm really excited to be joining Nottingham Forest on loan this season.
