Dan Brown's next thriller ‘The Secret of Secrets' gets release date
Dan Brown ' s next global, multi-tiered thriller finds protagonist Robert Langdon journeying from Prague to New York to London as he evades a would-be assassin and ponders the depths of human consciousness.
Doubleday announced Wednesday that 'The Secret of Secrets" will be published Sept. 9. Brown, best known for the blockbuster 'The Da Vinci Code,' is calling it his 'most intricately plotted and ambitious novel.'
'Writing it has been an unforgettable journey of discovery,' he said in a statement.
Brown's new novel begins with Langdon, the Harvard symbologist, in Prague. According to Doubleday, he plans to see a lecture by noetic scientist and emerging love interest Katherine Solomon, only to have her talk become a murder scene and for Solomon to disappear.
'As the plot expands into London and New York, Langdon desperately searches for Katherine . . . and for answers,' Doubleday announced. 'In a thrilling race through the dual worlds of futuristic science and mystical lore, he uncovers a shocking truth about a secret project that will forever change the way we think about the human mind.'
Brown has set previous books in France, Italy and Spain among other countries and researches his locations in person. He said in a statement that his fascination with Prague "began with its deep history of mysticism and the occult. It is a labyrinth of enigmatic sites — an ideal backdrop for a Robert Langdon thriller –- a city of secrets, both ancient and modern.'
Brown added that 'The Secret of Secrets' was also a chance to indulge another longtime obsession — the mind itself.
'I happen to believe we are on the cusp of a major revolution in the way we think about our brains and our relationships to each other,' he said. 'Cutting-edge science is now exploring advanced models of consciousness that seem poised to explain some of the mind's deepest mysteries. I chose this topic because I find it irresistibly compelling, and also because it is relevant to every single one of us.'
Doubleday plans to release the book in at least a dozen countries, including Czech Republic, Turkey, Spain and Finland.

Behind the scenes as Robson Green and Carol Smillie trial ancient paddle boats on Loch Earn for BBC series
Actor Robson Green and presenter Carol Smillie trialled ancient paddle boards on Loch Earn in Perthshire for Robson Green's Weekend Escapes. Piotr Gudan, who runs Blairgowrie-based Outdoor Explore, introduced the pair to coracles for the third season of the BBC Two show. The unusual round-shaped boats were historically used for fishing and ferrying people and goods in Speyside. Robson Green's Weekend Escapes sees the English actor, 60, 'find wellbeing and adventure in wonderful places' with 'famous friends'. Previous episodes have seen Robson take on an assault course in North Yorkshire with Olympic champion boxer Nicola Adams, explore the Lake District with TV presenter Helen Skelton and go kayaking with former Strictly Come Dancing star Janette Manrara. Last month, Green was joined by presenter and Invictus Games medallist JJ Chalmers at Perth restaurant Brown & Blacks. The Soldier Soldier actor also visited Broughty Ferry for the show alongside Dundee-based Gladiators star Sheli McCoy. Piotr said he was approached by the production company looking for something 'rare and exciting' to do in rural Perthshire. He told The Courier: 'My favourite part was being able to take two lovely people out on the water, in crafts they would normally not come across. 'Passing on my love of the great outdoors, Scottish heritage, and the Perthshire countryside. 'He (Robson Green) is such a lovely person. 'It was a very relaxed atmosphere created by the whole amazing crew. 'It was fantastic to hear that Robson was already quite well familiar with Perthshire from his previous projects and visits. 'This place is amazing.' The TV stars explored Loch Earn and St Fillans with Piotr, who says he hopes to have passed on some of his knowledge of the area and ancient coracles. The boats he uses are built in Perthshire using willow framework in a round or pear shape. He said: 'Heritage crafts have always been something I have had a passion for. 'My storage is packed with some amazing gems. 'Coracles, however, have taken a special place amongst all those. 'I am sure the first one I sat on brought a huge smile to my face, testing my balancing and canoe paddling techniques. 'Now, introducing these crafts to many more folk over the years, I am pretty sure the coracles brought smiles to all faces of those who tried them.' Piotr added: 'Over the years, Outdoor Explore has had the pleasure of working with various production companies, for daytime TV shows, regional and national promotional filming and documentaries. 'All were always focused on the amazing countryside of Perthshire, Tayside and the east of Scotland. 'It's a privilege to become an ambassador for this lovely part of the world, which we help to look after and inspire others to explore with us.' CNN megastar Christiane Amanpour was brutally mocked after she admitted she was 'afraid' to travel to America under President Donald Trump. The British-Iranian journalist shared her feelings on the podcast 'The Ex Files' on Wednesday, talking with her ex-husband and co-host Jamie Rubin about her recent trip to the US. Amanpour, 67, said she traveled to the States last month to give a speech at her alma mater Harvard Kennedy School, but traveling to the US made her feel like she 'was going to North Korea.' 'I must say I was afraid. I'm a foreigner. I don't have a green card. I'm not an American citizen. I'm fairly prominent, and I literally prepared to go to America as if I was going to North Korea,' she told Rubin. 'I took a burner phone. Imagine that. I didn't take a single…not my mobile phone, not my iPad, nothing, and I had nothing on the burner phone except a few numbers.' People quickly took aim at the journalist, seemingly mocking her for her comments. 'Don't visit. We will survive,' a user wrote on X. 'CNN's Christiane Amanpour is free to remain wherever she feels safe. Feel afraid to travel to America, then don't come here. Simple,' another said. 'She is full of bullc**p,' someone else wrote. 'We don't need evil like you entering this country anyway so stay out,' another quipped. Another told her to go after former President Joe Biden instead of Trump, telling her to 'criticize the guy who opened the borders and fucked up immigration, not the guy fixing it.' 'Then stay in England,' said one, as someone else wrote: 'Nobody cares.' Although she feared for the worst, Amanpour soon revealed her welcome to the county 'could not have been nicer.' 'So, huge sigh of relief I breathed, but wow, can you imagine if I'm afraid, what do others think?,' she added. Amanpour also said her fears grew and prompted her to discuss with the network's security team because other British citizens told her they were either turned around at the border and detained for hours on end. Rubin then chimed in about Trump's recent decision to bar foreign students from attending the Ivy League. 'With Donald Trump's basically weaponization of the immigration and naturalization service to scrutinize people, to imagine that every single non-American is a threat to the United States, is a war on what our country has been since its founding,' he said. The president announced Wednesday that he banned foreign nationals from studying at Harvard University as he continues to class with the institution. He issued an executive order entitled Enhancing National Security by Addressing Risks at Harvard University, which suspends the school's student visa program - calling it a 'privilege granted by our government, not a guarantee.' He also doubled down on his claims that the school violated federal law and argued it is important to limit international students for national security reasons. 'The Federal Bureau of Investigation has long warned that foreign adversaries and competitors take advantage of easy access to American higher education to, among other things, steal technical information and products, exploit expensive research and development to advance their own ambitions and spread false information for political or other reasons,' the executive order stated. 'Our adversaries, including the People's Republic of China try to take advantage of American higher education by exploiting the student visa program for improper purposes and by using visiting students to collect information at elite universities in the United States.' Harvard has nearly 6,800 international students, making up more than 27 percent of its enrollment in the past academic year, according to the BBC. On the same day, Trump also signed another bombshell executive order that bans visitors from 19 countries from entering the US. Nationals of Afghanistan, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran , Libya, Myanmar, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen will be barred from entering the United States under the new order, which goes into effect on June 9. Citizens of Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela will be partially restricted from traveling, removing access to all immigrant visas and several non-immigrant travel options. Trump also issued a warning that Egypt could soon join the no-fly list in the wake of the Colorado terror attack in which an Egyptian national who overstayed his visa allegedly set fire to pro-Israel demonstrators. 'We don't want 'em,' Trump said bluntly in a video released shortly after the ban was announced. 'Very simply, we cannot have open migration from any country where we cannot safely and reliably vet and screen.'
