It's not my job. If those whose job it is feel that Bengal is being belittled, then they can go to court with the information. There is no point is just making noise," said Saswata Chatterjee
Filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri on Monday said he would go the legal route if the release of his film 'The Bengal Files' is stalled in West Bengal.
The trailer launch of the film in Kolkata was disrupted on Saturday. Agnihotri claimed the event was first cancelled by a multiplex and then moved to a hotel where power supply was disrupted and police turned up asking if permission had been taken.
'We will go by the Constitution. We will go legally. If they stop us, we will take the legal course. What can we do? We are common citizens like you… We will pray that sanity prevails and the state government does not do it (stop the release),' the filmmaker said at a press conference here while hitting out at the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government in West Bengal.

Saswata Chatterjee on the controversy
'I am just an actor. I liked a character and I played it. I am not a historian to think about what history says and this is distorting history. It's not my job. If those whose job it is feel that Bengal is being belittled, then they can go to court with the information. There is no point is just making noise,' said Saswata Chatterjee in an interview with The Wall.
'I don't know. Let me tell you this. Nowadays, it's a trend, the whole story won't be told to anyone. You only get to know your track, your character. And when I was told about the role [in 'The Bengal Files'], I found the character to be amazing. It's a villain's character and very few people get such characters to play,' he added.

Vivek Agnihotri Alleges "Top Authorities" Tried To Block The Bengal Files Trailer: "Not Possible Without Permission"

New Delhi: Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri took a dig at the Mamata government over the ruckus at the trailer launch of his upcoming movie The Bengal Files in Kolkata, alleging that it was "already planned," and that no event of this scale, with 150-200 people and media present, could be halted without "official involvement". The incident, which took place at the ITC Royal Bengal in Kolkata on August 16, 2025, saw the screening of the film's trailer abruptly stopped. While speaking to ANI, Agnihotri shared that the trailer launch program was running smoothly before the visuals on a large LED screen were suddenly stopped. He stated that it was impossible for an event happening in "one of India's biggest five-star hotels," with "150-200 people" and media present, to be halted without official involvement. The director also said that he was informed that "top authorities" had raised objections to certain parts of the trailer, and hence, it could not be played. "In one of India's biggest five-star hotels, imagine there is such a big LED screen, the whole program is running, the visuals are playing. And the entire media of Kolkata, 150-200 people, are sitting and running the program. Is it possible to do this without permission? It is not possible," the filmmaker told ANI. "Look, governments in India have so many loopholes, and the government has so many powers. They can take anything out whenever they happened was a man came and cut the was already planned." "I made a mistake. Many people were writing that they wouldn't let me stay here. The multiplex where we were planning to hold the event was cancelled. As soon as I landed at the airport, I found out that it was cancelled. We contacted another multiplex, and it was cancelled, too. They said that they wouldn't be able to survive politically if they showed the trailer here," he further said. "So, this happened with the hotel. Same thing. I asked them, 'Who has refused?' They said, 'Top authorities.' That same reliable source then told me that they had a problem with a couple of things in the trailer, and that's why it was stopped," Agnihotri added. When asked if he believes the film will release in Bengal, the filmmaker said he hopes the government will not "take away the rights of their own people." But if the release is blocked, Agnihotri said he trusts the "Constitution of India and the law of India," and would fight for the film's release if needed. "I hope God gives them wisdom. And that they don't do such foolish things where they take away the rights of their own people. They shouldn't do that," said the filmmaker. But if that happens, then I will say that I have a lot of faith in the Constitution of India and the law of India. And I will fight for it." The film explores the communal violence in undivided Bengal during the 1940s, including events like the 1946 Direct Action Day and the Noakhali riots of 1946, a Hindu genocide.

Akshay Kumar And Arshad Warsi Get Notice, Accused Of Insulting Judiciary In Jolly LLB 3

Jolly LLB 3 features an impressive cast including Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, Saurabh Shukla, Huma Qureshi, Amrita Rao, and Gajraj Rao. A Pune court has issued notices to Bollywood actors Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi regarding their upcoming movie, Jolly LLB 3. The notices were issued after a complaint was filed by lawyer Wajid Khan Bidkar, who claimed that the movie mocks the legal system and court proceedings. In his plea, Bidkar argued that Jolly LLB 3 portrays the legal profession in a derogatory manner and insults the judiciary. The petitioner also objected to a scene in the film in which judges are being referred as 'mamu" (a colloquial slang word). Issuing the notices, the court has asked Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi to appear before it on September 28. More details are awaited. Not First Complaint Against Jolly LLB 3 This is not the first time that a complaint has been filed against Jolly LLB 3. In May 2024 too, the film landed in legal trouble when the Ajmer District Bar Association President, Chandrabhan, filed a complaint against the makers of the film, alleging the franchise disrespects the Indian judiciary system. In his complaint, Chandrabhan claimed that the film presents lawyers and judges in an 'inappropriate" way which, he termed, was 'humorous and indecent". Chandrabhan had also urged the court to stop the Jolly LLB 3 shooting. 'This decision has been taken considering the first and second parts of Jolly LLB. It seems that the filmmakers, directors and actors do not respect the dignity and prestige of the judiciary of the country's Constitution at all. The shooting of Jolly LLB 3 is going on in the surrounding villages and areas including the DRM office of Ajmer, which will continue for several days. Even during the shooting of this film, the actors of the film do not seem to be at all serious about the image, prestige and dignity of the judiciary including the judges," Chandrabhan had said as quoted by NBT. What Do We Know About Jolly LLB? The first Jolly LLB film was released in 2013. Its sequel hit theatres in 2017. The first film featured Arshad Warsi and Saurabh Shukla in the lead roles. In the sequel, Akshay Kumar replaced Arshad Warsi. He was also joined by Huma Qureshi. Produced by Star Studio18 and brought to life by writer-director Subhash Kapoor, Jolly LLB 3 features an impressive cast including Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi, Saurabh Shukla, Huma Qureshi, Amrita Rao, and Gajraj Rao.
