South Street snarl: When will traffic delays begin near Downtown Orlando?
There's been a one week delay in some construction work that will significantly impact drivers near Downtown Orlando.
Channel 9 has learned that lane closures along a section of South Street will now start on Monday, May 5.
The stretch of busy road will go from three lanes down to a single lane.
Here's how it will affect drivers:
South Street impact: Only one westbound lane of South Street will be open to traffic from South Mills Avenue to just west of Summerlin Avenue. Traffic on South Street will then resume three lanes.
Summerlin Avenue impact: Traffic traveling north and south on Summerlin Avenue will be rerouted around the closure between East Anderson Street and Pine Street.
The City of Orlando and Orlando Utilities Commission said the temporary changes are necessary because of the ongoing Summerlin Avenue Improvement Project.
The long-term project aims to upgrade OUC's drinking water and Orlando's sanitary sewer and stormwater systems.
The South Street lane reductions are expected to be in place for about five months.

Fiery semi-trailer crash blocks I-85 North in Davidson County
Channel 9 is asking for more information about a fiery crash involving two semi-trailers on Interstate 85 in Davidson County overnight. The crash happened before 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. A Channel 9 viewer shared video that showed the two trucks on the side of the interstate, with a trailer engulfed in flames. Tega Cay could be first city in SC to allow golf carts to be driven at night
The City of Tega Cay could be the first city in the state to allow people to ride their golf carts at night. State lawmakers passed House Bill 3292 this past legislative session. It requires golf cart passengers under 12 to wear a safety belt when the golf cart is on public streets and highways. ALSO READ: Tega Cay city council votes to spend additional $35,000 on deer population control It's a big deal for communities like Tega Cay, which are close to passing an ordinance to allow people to drive golf carts at night. 'Being a golf course community and a lake community, a lot of folks just see the benefit of something like a golf cart,' golf cart owner Tyler Crane said. Crane supports the new ordinance that would allow him and others to drive golf carts at night. 'It's really cool to pack up the golf cart, get our kids on the golf cart, and it's just overall fun,' he said. RELATED: Tega Cay community rallying to get friend for Scottish Highland cow Tega Cay's mayor told Channel 9 on Wednesday that there will be some safety requirements and suggestions. 'You have to have headlights, you have to have taillights,' Mayor Chris Gray said. 'I like turn signals on a golf cart; they make a lot of sense. If folks would like to do that, that would help to add another layer of safety.' Driver Bob Knotz does not have a golf cart but doesn't think the change will be an issue. 'I don't have a golf cart, but I do have a car,' Knotz said. 'I don't think it's gonna be a problem because they've got good lighting and seatbelts on. 'Nobody's gonna be around driving crazy already, so I don't think it will be a problem." The ordinance has to pass three readings to become a law. The second reading takes place on Monday. In North Carolina, it's up to each individual town or city to come up with their own golf cart rules. But similar to South Carolina, state guidance says they should only be allowed on roads with speed limits of 35 miles per hour and lower. Overnight closures happening on 408 this week
Drivers heading back to work after the Memorial Dy weekend should be aware of some big closures this week on Florida State Road 408. The on and off ramps at the 408 from Conway will be closed all week in the overnight and early morning hours. The first round of closures for this paving work will start at 11 p.m. Tuesday. It will settle back to normal at 6 a.m. Wednesday. The alternate route for drivers trying to access the 408 with that Conway on ramp closed is to take Lake Underhill Road to Andes Avenue, where you'll be able to access the 408 through that Andes Avenue stretch.
