Mid-Del schools implement new crisis training in classrooms
MIDWEST CITY, Okla. (KFOR) — School districts often do training classes to learn what to do in an emergency and keep students safe. This fall, Mid-Del Schools are implementing new training to help during a crisis event.
The crisis training simulated a real-life scenario with the parents starting outside the school, then heading inside to the check-in area.

'We never want anything terrible to happen, obviously, but there has to be a plan,' said Darcy Budde, the Principal at Carl Albert Middle School.
Right now, the school district has a plan they follow in the event of an emergency, but this fall, it will be elevated after partnering with the 'I Love You Guys Foundation'.
It's a group that specializes in school safety after a real situation where a family lost their daughter in a school shooting.
'That's the last text she sent to her parents was I love you guys, so this means a lot because the safety of our students will always be number one,' said Budde.
Whether it's a power outage, a weather-related incident, or something extreme, school administrators said the training can be used in a lot of different scenarios.
At Thursday's real-life simulation, administrators pretended to be parents, students, and crisis response staff.
They practiced going through each station in an emergency, then reunited as a family.

'We wanna take those things that we're doing right, just because they're instinct and add more intentionality behind it,' said Dr. Rick Cobb, the Superintendent of Mid-Del Schools.
The district is hopeful the new training will enhance how they ensure students are safely reunited with their parents in an emergency.
'Patience is really hard when you're scared and worried about your kids, so that's where we're gonna keep communicating with parents that we have a plan and we can give them details once they get to the reunification site,' said Budde.
The district said they will be implementing drills for the new training, similar to a fire or tornado drill, to get students and teachers prepared if the time comes to use it in an emergency.

‘I'm not going anywhere': Baton Rouge man survives shooting while improving his community
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — One man is recovering from his injuries after someone shot him in broad daylight. Robert McKey was renovating a home for the Mid-City Redevelopment Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving Mid-City. But he didn't think his passion for the community would land him in the hospital. 'I'm not going anywhere. I got shot in the face and spit out a bullet, nothing is going to take me from you,' said Robert McKey to his mother. On May 14, McKey was fixing a fence with his stepdad and friend on North 24th Street in Baton Rouge. 'It was a completely senseless act of violence,' said McKey. McKey said he was only trying to better his community that day, but the unthinkable happened while he was working. McKey said two men approached them, and one was wearing a mask. They reportedly asked McKey for cash, but he said he didn't have any. Guns were then drawn. 3 separate shootings leave multiple injured across Baton Rouge Wednesday 'I feel the tip of the AR-15 in the back of my head and he said, 'Don't move, I'm going to blow your brains out,'' said McKey. Yet, McKey moved and tried to grab the gun from the man. 'He emptied the clip when I was wrestling back and forth and whenever they ran out of bullets, the next thing I knew it felt like my head was a pinball machine. I was like, 'Did I just spit out a bullet?' I was like no way; there's no way like be real. I walked inside and my stepdad is trying to call 911,' said McKey. Bullets also hit his forearm, chest, neck, abdomen, and more. McKey's friend was also hit, and his stepdad was grazed. 'After they ran out of bullets they took off running, they weren't at all expecting me to do what I did, and they left in fear,' said Mckey. McKey is now out of the hospital, but the road to recovery will be a long one. 'They didn't take anything from us. They took my ability to build that fence, which I love, my job, and they took my ability to teach all these youth. They took that from them,' said McKey. McKey said he would go back to mentoring young kids in the area. The incident will not stop him from making Mid-City a better place to live. 'I am going back, I am definitely going back,' said McKey. 1 arrested, 50 detained in drug bust at karaoke bar
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — A drug bust at a karaoke bar overnight in northwest Oklahoma City resulted in more than 50 people taken in for questioning. Oklahoma City Police say it's not the first time they've gotten a call about the spot. 'We've been receiving complaints that this place is staying open after hours,' said Benjamin Weir, a Captain at the Oklahoma City Police Department. LOCAL NEWS: Police find narcotics in NW Oklahoma City bar Officials say the bar at 12100 N Rockwell is a legally licensed business, however, Captain Weir said, 'Whenever you're licensed through the able commission and Oklahoma City, you're supposed to close at 2 am. Early Friday night, just after 2 am, several agencies pulled up to the bar for a planned check of the business that was still open with customers. Officers found cash on the premises, along with Ketamine and Ecstasy. The bar's manager, 32-year-old Ruichun Lin, was arrested. More than 50 people were detained for questioning. 'We've got some people that are identified that are probably gonna be facing some charges, but it's really on the initial side of it right now,' said Captain Weir. LOCAL NEWS: OBN seizes 13 lbs. of meth in drug trafficking investigation While the investigation is in the early stages, police said it's a warning to other businesses that ignore the 2 a.m. business curfew. 'It's not abnormal for places like this that we've raided before,' said Captain Weir. Officers said more arrests are possible as the investigation is ongoing.
