BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – One of the largest and most festive events in Greater Binghamton is nearly here and several organizations are gearing up for the celebration.
Binghamton is known for several things including spiedies, carousels, and of course, the St. Patrick's Day parade. With Parade Day just under two weeks away, it's time to plan your itinerary for the March 1 event.
Hosted each year by the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Parade Day is in its 57th year. The rain or shine event takes place on the first Saturday of March in downtown Binghamton. Local officials, businesses, organizations, media, and community members participate in the parade, tossing out candy, trinkets, beads, and bubbles as they celebrate the City.
News 34 has created a guide to all of the Parade Day festivities. If you're looking to spend the day watching the parade, eating good food with great friends, or enjoying a drink or two, we've got you covered.
The parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the corner of Fayette and Court Street in downtown Binghamton. Parade-goers decked out in green will line the streets, so it is advised to arrive early. Several people, cars, and floats will join in on the tradition, including the team at News 34. Beloved bagpipe bands will be in attendance. Guests will be able to enjoy music from BC Celtic Pipes and Drum Band, Edward P. Maloney Memorial Pipe Band, Penn York Highlanders, and the Philidelphia Police and Fire Pipe Band.

Dressed in brightly colored sequined costumes, they are famous around the Philly area for their talents, tricks, and electric performance. This is their first appearance in the Binghamton area since 2020.

Greta Thunberg and ‘selfie yacht' pals refused to watch ‘horror film of the Oct. 7 massacre': Israel

Greta Thunberg and other detained activists on her Gaza-bound 'selfie yacht' refused to watch a film detailing Hamas' slaughter of more than 1,000 people in Israel, according to officials. 'Greta and her flotilla companions were taken into a room upon their arrival for a screening of the horror film of the October 7 massacre,' Israel's defense minister, Israel Katz, said of the group's arrival in the port of Ashdod after they were detained about 125 miles off the coast Monday. But 'when they saw what it was about, they refused to continue watching,' Katz said, according to The Times of Israel. Advertisement 'The antisemitic flotilla members are turning a blind eye to the truth and have proven once again that they prefer the murderers to the murdered and continue to ignore the atrocities committed by Hamas against Jewish and Israeli women, adults and children,' Katz said.. 3 Thunberg was deported Tuesday after being detained aboard the Gaza-bound 'Madleen,' which Israel dismissed as a 'selfie yacht.' REUTERS 3 Thunberg smiled as she was detained by Israeli forces. Advertisement Thunberg agreed to be deported from Israel along with two other activists and a journalist, according to Adalah, a legal rights group representing the group. The 22-year-old was flown home to Sweden via France. Other activists who refused deportation were being held in detention, with their cases set to be heard. 3 Video from Oct. 7 showed Hamas terrorists kidnapping an bound and bloodied woman. The activists said they were protesting a humanitarian crisis in Gaza since the conflict began with Hamas' terror attack 20 months ago. Advertisement Israel has maintained that such ships violate its naval blockade of Gaza. Israel, for its part, dismissed the saga as a stunt, noting how the celebs onboard, including Irish actor Liam Cunningham, had posed smiling pictures for social media. 'The 'selfie yacht' of the 'celebrities' is safely making its way to the shores of Israel. The passengers are safe and were provided with sandwiches and water,' the ministry posted on X.

Ed Sheeran Uses Budget Airlines Instead Of Private Jets

Ed Sheeran may be one of the world's biggest artists and have an estimated net worth of $350 million, but he has admitted that he is not a fan of private jets, and would rather use budget airlines instead. And before you think that the 34-year-old star is flying commercial in a bid to save cash, Ed's reasoning is much more noble: he cares about the environment. Ed opened during his recent appearance on The Louis Theroux Podcast, where he revealed he recently flew home from a European show on a plane full of fans who had attended the gig. It all started when Louis brought up an old news story about Ed inadvertently getting caught up with a group of young men on their way back from a 'lads' trip,' with the host asking: 'How are you with public transport? You probably wouldn't…' But before Louis could finish his sentence, Ed interjected: 'Love it.'When Louis mentioned the past report, Ed said: 'Oh yeah, that was 10 years ago. That was bad. I was flying back on a Sunday night with all the lads who'd just been on a lads' trip. That was bad.'Pressed on why it was a bad experience, the singer continued: 'I was on my own, so this was pre-security. I was on my own, I was on a hangover, as well… I was working on, like, two hours sleep. I was planning on crashing out on the plane, and then, suddenly, there was, like, 50 lads all very excited." 'There was one recently, though, my wife works in sustainability, so we try and fly completely normally as much as possible,' Ed went on. 'We were flying back on RyanAir, I think, from a gig in Italy that I was doing last year, but all my fans who'd been at the gig were flying back on the same flight.' For reference, RyanAir is an Irish ultra-low-cost airline that offers return flights across Europe for less than $50, and has no separate class cabins.'Stop it,' Louis exclaimed in response. 'Aren't you private jet all the way?''No,' Ed replied. 'I'll do it very, very rarely, and only if it's work; if I'm doing a thing in Germany and I have to be in LA the next day.''You don't have a private jet?' Louis asked in disbelief, and when Ed confirmed that he doesn't because he prefers trains, Louis exclaimed: 'You could afford one!' 'Yeah, but it's not really about that,' Ed explained. 'I like the environment. I like trees. I don't know, I find it hard to justify. I'm not saying, like… No one's perfect. I have [used a private jet], when we are doing intense promo trips, there'll be the odd time. But I'm very much: 'We do trains,' or I'm flying to Mexico tomorrow on BA [British Airways] kind of thing.' 'But you said Ryanair, that's all one class, isn't it?' Louis then asked, and Ed said that it was before sharing an anecdote about how awkward flying in economy class can be for him — especially when he is with his and wife Cherry's two children, 4-year-old Lyra and 3-year-old Jupiter. 'I had my kids, and one of them had fallen asleep on me and pissed on me, and this person came up and was like: 'Can I have a selfie, mate?'' Ed recalled. 'And I was like: 'Probably not… probably not the time.'' Needless to say, Ed's comments are super refreshing at a time when other celebs are attracting criticism for their excessive private jet use, including so-called 'climate criminal' Kylie Jenner, and his bestie Taylor Swift.
