The German had to deal with health problems right at the start of the match. He had to leave the centre court at 1-0, 40-40 and only returned after around three minutes, struggling with stomach issues.
"Everything was fine before the match. Then I suddenly just didn't feel well, got off the court and threw up. I've never felt anything like that before. After that, I think I did a good match," Zverev said.
After returning to the court, Zverev grabbed his stomach a few times, but played with concentration and won the first set after 47 minutes.
He missed the only two break points in the second set, and the match was decided in the tie-break, in which Zverev converted his second match point after 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Zverev is making another attempt at winning a first career grass court title. He was a Halle runner-up twice and last week lost another final on the surface, against American Taylor Fritz in Stuttgart.

Mercedes F1 Boss Wolff Says No to Le Mans Until It's ‘Pure Racing'

One controversial set of regulations at the 24 Hours of Le Mans is keeping Mercedes from joining the likes of BMW, Cadillac, Ferrari, Aston Martin and Porsche in fielding its own team in the prestigious endurance race, says Toto Wolff, team principal and chief executive officer of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One team. ' Ola Källenius and I, we are racing people, and we don't like BOPs,' Wolff said on Bloomberg's Hot Pursuit! podcast, referring to what are known as 'balance of performance' requirements that can force teams to adjust various technical aspects of a car, especially its weight and power, depending on how well it's competing. He says he and Källenius, the CEO of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, believe BOPs unduly influence the outcome of the race.

Tennis star Sinner releases duet with Italian tenor Bocelli

Tennis star Jannik Sinner has turned his hand to music releasing a duet on Friday with the renowned Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli. The song, "Polvere e Gloria" (Dust And Glory), features three-time Grand Slam champion Sinner, not singing but repeating parts of his winning and losing speeches, which he recorded at Bocelli's studio in Tuscany. Advertisement "I am very happy and honoured to be part of this project with Andrea, who for 30 years has been a unique and extraordinary voice, a flag for our country in the rest of the world," said world number one Sinner. "I could never have imagined hearing my voice in one of his songs. It's extremely moving." Sinner won the US Open in 2024 and the Australian Open in 2024 and 2025, among 19 ATP titles. He finished runner-up in the French Open on clay at Roland Garros this month. The track features both Italian and English lyrics. The accompanying video shows Sinner and Bocelli, two of the most famous Italians in the world, in a bucolic countryside setting, seated at a piano. Advertisement The video features personal and archive images from the duo's childhoods, along with scenes filmed as they collaborated at Bocelli's estate. While Bocelli, 66, has performed at major events including the Olympic Games and the World Cup, Sinner is the first Italian to top either the men's or women's singles world rankings in tennis. His image as a national hero in Italy, however, was tarnished by a high-profile doping scandal involving accidental contamination, which, after a lengthy series of events, earned him a three-month suspension between February and May. Since his return, Sinner, 23, has reached the finals of the Masters 1000 in Rome and the French Open, losing both times to his great rival Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz. On Thursday, he was defeated in the second round of the grass-court tournament in Halle, Germany, by Kazakh Alexander Bublik, ranked 45th in the world. jr/ea/bsp

Magnus Carlsen, world chess No. 1, signs St Pauli contract extension for 2025-26 Bundesliga season

World chess No. 1 Magnus Carlsen will continue with Bundesliga team St Pauli for the 2025-26 season. Carlsen joined the German team in May 2024. Nicknamed 'the Mozart of Chess', the former world champion helped St Pauli to a 12th-placed finish in the 15-team standings, cementing their top-flight status in their debut season following promotion. Advertisement 'Last season was a great success for the team,' Carlsen said. 'We proved that we can hold our own in the Bundesliga and compete with the very best. I'm looking forward to the team's continued development – and to contributing to it.' Carlsen's arrival at St Pauli came with significant fanfare, his stature and reputation in chess attracting an oversubscription in interest for tickets and his matches were covered by the majority of German newspapers and several television channels. The Norwegian's arrival also meant each of the top-10 chess players in the world were playing in Germany. Both St Pauli's football team and its amateur chess team won promotion to the top-flight in 2024. The club's branding as one of the most widely-recognised left-wing teams in Europe was one of the factors which attracted Carlsen, with his acquisition a significant coup in their attempt for survival. Carlsen attended a St. Pauli match at their stadium, the Millerntor, when they were a struggling second-division team, and he cited the 'relaxed and joyful atmosphere' as a factor in persuading him to become a part of the club. Thomas Schuttler, chairman of the FC St. Pauli chess department, said: 'Magnus Carlsen is not only an extraordinary player but also a tremendous asset to our team culture. His presence has inspired everyone involved. We're thrilled that he's staying on — together, we're writing a special chapter in German chess, in true St. Pauli style.' Carlsen made his debut in the fifth round of the Bundesliga season, defeating Dutch grandmaster Max Warmerdam as St Pauli triumphed over SG Solingen, their first victory of the season. He was then held to a draw by Wei Yi in his side's narrow defeat to Dusseldorfer SK. The 34-year-old has not played for St Pauli since, with appearances at the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam in Weissenhaus and Paris, the TCh-NOR Elite 2024-25 and 13th Norway Chess 2025 comprising a busy schedule. Jan Henric Buettner, founder of Freestyle Chess and sponsor of the team said Carlsen's contract extension 'reflects the strength of our shared project and our ambition to increase the popularity of chess in Germany'.
