Ohio State in Intense Battle With Alabama, Penn State for Coveted Star
The Ohio State Buckeyes held the edge over all the top programs in the country on their way to the 2024-25 national championship. To stay on top, they will have to win recruiting battles against those same top programs.
For four-star linebacker Cincere Johnson, the Buckeyes are competing with the Alabama Crimson Tide and Penn State Nittany Lions.

On3's Hayes Fawcett reported Tuesday that Johnson has those three schools -- Ohio State, Alabama, and Penn State -- in his final three.
Standing at 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds, Johnson attends high school firmly in Big Ten country in Cleveland, Ohio. On3 projected his NIL value to be $138,000.

On3 rated Johnson the No. 3 linebacker and No. 40 overall prospect in the 2026 recruiting class.
According to the 247 composite rankings, Johnson is the No. 6 linebacker and No. 101 overall recruit for 2026.
The Buckeyes own the third-best recruiting class for 2026 according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. Only the USC Trojans and Notre Dame Fighting Irish have higher-rated classes through May 7.

But Penn State isn't far behind, ranked fourth on the list. Alabama sits at No. 34 on the 247 Sports composite rankings with only five commits for 2026.
As impressive as Ohio State has done on the recruiting trail for next year, though, the Buckeyes have received a verbal commitment from only one linebacker. That came from three-star prospect CJ Sanna, who isn't one of the top 250 prospects in the 2026 class.
Besides Sanna, the Buckeyes have received verbal commitments from three other defenders. Meanwhile, Ohio State has landed eight offensive prospects in the 2026 class.

Ravens urgency grows after another glowing evaluation of Tyler Linderbaum
Ravens urgency grows after another glowing evaluation of Tyler Linderbaum Ravens may want to expediate their plans for Tyler Linderbaum's extension after yet another stellar review. It doesn't typically take long to distinguish 'special'. There's a reason why some prospects receive first-round grades and others don't. The Baltimore Ravens saw something in Tyler Linderbaum before making him the 25th player taken during the 2022 NFL Draft. Then again, everyone did. It isn't typical to discuss the Iowa Hawkeyes and revel in things they are doing on offense. Tyler changed that, for a season at least, but after shining during his final collegiate seasons, every NFL team was on notice as he declared he was ready to conquer the next level, football's highest. 2021 was the crowning jewel as he racked up a lot of hardware for the shelf. In addition to a First-Team All-Big Ten nod (his second), he won the Rimington Trophy and Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year honors. He was also named a Unanimous All-American. No one doubted his talent would translate to the NFL, but just in case there was someone who might have, Mr. Linderbaum has certainly extinguished any concern in which he is mentioned. Consecutive Pro Bowl nods followed a spot on the 2022 Pro Football Writers Association's All-Rookie Team nods after the 2023 and 2024 Ravens seasons. Now comes the obligatory question about pay. When might an extension come? The Ravens may want to quicken their plan for Tyler Linderbaum after PFF's recent mention As seasons pass and the pages of the calendar turn, salaries get more exaggerated and expensive. Don't look now, but time has flown. Tyler Linderbaum enters year four of his rookie contract, and so far, there's been no news of an extension. By being a first-round draft choice, a fifth-year club option is baked into his deal, but the Ravens seemingly don't want to wait too long to get him squared away. As time passes and he adds to his resume, his price tag is only going to get larger. Public perception also plays a role in things sometimes, and if Pro Football Focus is right in its assessment, Tyler may be staring at a jackpot payday. PFF stacked the NFL's top 32 centers, and Tyler ranked second, behind only Creed Humphrey of the Kansas City Chiefs. Mason Cameron, the writer of this one, offered his explanation. "After three seasons of excellent production at the heart of Baltimore's protection scheme, Linderbaum has proven to be one of the NFL's premier run blockers. The Ravens center is particularly adept as a zone blocker, where he has earned a 91.7 PFF run-blocking grade on zone concepts across his career, placing him in the 91st percentile at the position." Postseason accolades and being viewed as the game's second-best center are some stellar weaponry to take to the negotiating table. Neil Cornrich of NC Sports is Linderbaum's agent, and he has to be licking his chops. Eric DeCosta is one of the best in his field. There is no doubt that he'll get a deal done, but he may have a lot to think about in this case. Following Rashod Bateman's recent extension, several other Ravens need new deals of their own. Linderbaum is among that number, and now he has leverage and growing momentum. We'll see what happens during the coming months.

Transfer portal targets for the Oklahoma Sooners
Transfer portal targets for the Oklahoma Sooners The Oklahoma Sooners have already made a splash in the softball transfer portal with the addition of former LSU pitcher Sydney Berzon. Berzon gives the Sooners a frontline pitcher to deploy in the circle after the departure of Sam Landry. The Sooners have a young, talented team, and Patty Gasso mentioned striking a balance between adding talent in the transfer portal and not recruiting over some of the young talent on the roster. At the same time, OU may add one or two more pieces to a team that contended for the national title in 2025. The Sooners don't have a lot of needs with a stacked roster coming back, but if Gasso and her staff were interested in making another move or two, here are three players that could be of interest. Maya Johnson, P - Belmont If Fisher isn't in the cards, the Oklahoma Sooners could go back to the mid-major ranks, a strategy that landed OU Hope Trautwein and Sam Landry in recent years. Johnson was 24-6 with a 1.52 ERA in 2025. She recorded 366 (!!!) strikeouts in 207 innings and allowed just 22 walks for a Belmont team that made the NCAA tournament. No other pitcher on Belmont's staff threw more than 62 innings last season. Johnson was key in the Bruins Missouri Valley Conference tournament title, which secured Belmont a trip to the NCAA Tournament. Though she was roughed up by a good Virginia Tech lineup for five runs in two different outings, she performed well earlier in the year against power competition. In a game against Arizona State, Johnson threw eight innings and recorded 12 strikeouts, allowing just two hits and an earned run. Johnson would have just one year of eligibility remaining but has some intriguing tools for Gasso and Jennifer Rocha to work with. Grace Jenkins, C - UConn If the Oklahoma Sooners are looking for more production from the catcher spot, there are a couple of players that make sense. Grace Jenkins, the former catcher from UConn hit .424 last season with 21 home runs and 68 RBIs. She had a slugging percentage of .906 and an on-base percentage of .906. In the NCAA Tournament, Jenkins recorded two walks vs. Nebraska and went 1-for-2 vs. new Oklahoma pitcher Sydney Berzon. Jenkins was the Big East Player of the Year in 2025 and would be an asset in anyone's lineup. Brooke Wells, C - Houston Another catcher option is Houston's Brooke Wells. Though Houston finished last in the Big 12, Wells led the Cougars in home runs, RBIs, walks, batting average, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage. She hit .341 with 10 HR, 47 RBIs and 35 walks. On the season, she recorded a .645 slugging percentage and an on-base percentage of .478. Wells was just a true freshman in 2025 and would have three more years of eligibility. Does Oklahoma Need to Do Anything Else? To keep it short. Not really. The Sooners are bringing in the No. 1 pitcher (Allyssa Parker), the No. 5 pitcher (Berkley Zache) and the No. 1 catcher (Kendall Wells) in the 2025 recruiting class. They also have Audrey Lowry and Sophia Bordi (presuming she's coming back for 2025-2026) waiting to take on a bigger role in the circle. At catcher, Riley Zache is also coming back. She was 2-for-4 with an RBI and appeared in nine games this season. The Sooners won't be devoid of talent. Though the Sooners will still be young, everyone will be a year older. That was a team that was just a few plays away from getting back to the championship series of the WCWS. If any school can afford to trust their evaluations and let that talent compete for opportunities, it's Oklahoma.
