We hit 87 in our Raiders countdown to kickoff. Who wore it best and who's wearing it now
We hit 87 in our Raiders countdown to kickoff. Who wore it best and who's wearing it now We've reached 87 days until the Raiders season opener at Foxboro against the Patriots, With our countdown at 87 days we take a look at who currently dons the number in Silver & Black and who has brought it the most distinction. No. 87 Who's wearing it now: TE Michael Mayer The Raiders traded up in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft to select Mayer at 35 overall. After a slow start, the Raiders were a bad team and found themselves in position to draft Brock Bowers, so they did. Instantly Mayer went from the guy they wanted bad enough to trade up to the top of the second round, to playing second fiddle to Bowers. Which, to be honest, if you are going to take a backseat to anyone, he's the guy who you can't really feel too bad about. Mayer enters his third season with 460 yards and two touchdowns on 48 catches. After missing six games last season to 'personal reasons' he returned and has settled into his role as the Raiders' number two tight end. He and Bowers have the potential to make for one of the better one-two punches at tight end in the league. Who wore it best: TE Dave Casper A Hall of Famer. One of the greatest tight ends in NFL history. The man of whom the legendary 'Ghost to the Post' play is named after. He went to five straight Pro Bowls from 1976-1980 with four straight All Pro nods in there as well. And the Raiders won two Super Bowls during that time. In 1977 -- a year the Raiders did not win the Super Bowl -- Casper had five touchdowns in two playoff games.

Shedeur Sanders Praised for his Demeanor During Browns Minicamp
Shedeur Sanders Praised for his Demeanor During Browns Minicamp originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Shedeur Sanders delivered a strong performance during the second day of the Cleveland Browns' mandatory minicamp Wednesday, further fueling speculation if he could be a serious contender for the team's starting job. Advertisement The fifth-round draft pick out of Colorado was nearly flawless during seven-on-seven and 11-on-11 drills. According to ESPN Cleveland, Sanders completed 8-of-9 passes with one touchdown and didn't turn the ball over for a second straight day. Sanders' fellow quarterbacks had mixed results. Dillon Gabriel went 9-of-16 with two touchdowns. Joe Flacco completed just 3-of-7 passes with a touchdown, while Kenny Pickett was 6-of-11 with a score of his own. The Browns will likely use Flacco as a starter, but the competition among Sanders, Gabriel, Flacco and Pickett is expected to continue into training camp and possibly through the preseason. While Sanders remains an underdog to start Week 1, his sharp showing Wednesday gave the coaching staff more to think about. 'This quarterback battle feels as open as any,' Pro Football Focus analyst Thomas Valentine said. 'Draft order notwithstanding, [Sanders] is the most talented quarterback on the roster.' Advertisement Valentine predicted that Sanders could ultimately win the job, citing his elite 91.0 PFF grade from his final college season. Sanders' draft stock tumbled unexpectedly in April, sliding from a projected first-round pick to a fifth-round selection, where Cleveland took him with the 144th overall pick. 'Life is just based on how you view different things,' Sanders said Tuesday after the Browns' first minicamp practice. 'So you can view things as you're not getting reps in a negative way or you can view it as, OK, when it's my time to get out there, let's be proactive and let's get warm, let's get going.'
