Sindhis demand devpt board for needy members

Time of India06-08-2025
Lucknow: The Sindhi community, widely recognised as peace-loving and industrious, still includes a section that struggles with poverty, lack of education and limited access to employment.
For their uplift, the formation of a development board is essential to bridge these gaps and enable even the most marginalised in the community, said Ashok Anshwani, president, Sindhi Sabha.
Anshwani praised efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for working for the uplift of the marginalised communities in India. He said that a large-scale event marking Partition Remembrance Day will be held on Aug 14 in Kanpur with participation expected from Sindhi representatives across the country.
He said, "The occasion is not just to commemorate the trauma of Partition, but also to highlight the ongoing challenges faced by refugees and their descendants." He also pointed out that the Sindhi community continues to make valuable contributions to national development.

NCERT module row: ‘Congress in pain because truth of Partition coming out,' says BJP

The Congress on Saturday accused the ruling BJP of 'interfering' with the functioning of the institutions and 'distorting' the country's history after a special module, released by the NCERT to mark 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day', held Jinnah, the Congress, and then Viceroy Lord Mountbatten responsible for India's Partition. Calling the Congress the 'Rahul-Jinnah party', BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia took on Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, and alleged that his thinking was similar to that of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan. New Delhi, Aug 16 (PTI) The BJP on Saturday slammed the Congress for questioning the NCERT's module on the Partition of India and said the opposition party is in pain because the 'truth' has been brought out. Replying to media queries on the issue, Congress leader Pawan Khera alleged that the partition had taken place due to the Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League. He also took on the RSS, calling it the 'biggest villain' in the country's history. Hitting back, Bhatia said the Congress is in pain because the NCERT has brought a 'bitter truth' of India's Partition out for the students to study. 'The Rahul-Jinnah party was the first to feel the pain. And it won't be wrong to say that Jinnah and Rahul have the same thinking. Both have become synonymous with each other,' he told reporters at the BJP headquarters here. 'Jinnah had a poisonous thinking of appeasement and communalism. Rahul Gandhi and the Congress have the same thinking,' he charged. The BJP spokesperson said it is the right of the people to know why the Partition took place and whose failure it was. It happened because the 'ambition of the Congress and its leader' had taken precedence over national interest, he said without naming anyone. 'We all know that 'akhand Bharat' was partitioned on the basis of religion. This black spot in our history was a gift from the Congress,' he said. Bhatia said that while the people of the country and the BJP believe that the country should be run by the Constitution, the Congress thinks it should be run by Sharia law. 'Jinnah also said that there should be Sharia law. The Congress says that the reservation should be given to people on the basis of religion. This is what Jinnah also said,' he added. On the attack on the RSS, Bhatia said, 'Those who always betrayed India are raising questions on such a patriotic organisation whose aim is to preserve the heritage of India and make it stronger.' NCERT module blames Congress for Partition; party says Hindu Mahasabha first suggested the idea

The Opposition Congress alleged here on Saturday (August 16, 2025) that the 'Culprits of Partition', a segment in the course module designed by the NCERT for Classes 6 to 8, is a distortion of history. The module blamed the Congress and then All India Muslim League leader Mohammad Ali Jinnah for the Partition. The module is a supplementary resource for Classes 6 to 8 (middle stage) – not part of regular textbooks – and is meant to be used for projects, posters, discussions and debates The NCERT module said: 'Ultimately, on August 15, 1947, India was divided. But this was not the doing of any one person. There were three elements responsible for the Partition of India: Jinnah, who demanded it; second, the Congress, which accepted it; and third, Mountbatten [then Viceroy], who implemented it.' Asked about the NCERT module blaming the trio, Congress leader Pawan Khera said the book can be torn up if it didn't mention the role of the Hindu Mahasabha. 'In 1938, the Hindu Mahasabha at their national convention on the banks of Sabarmati in Gujarat first proposed that the Hindus and Muslims stay separately. This was endorsed by the Lahore session of the Muslim League in 1940. Then, in 1942, the coalition government in Sindh province, formed by the Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League, adopted a resolution,' Mr. Khera said at a press conference. 'If these dates are not mentioned in the NCERT book, it should be torn up,' he added. Senior Congress leader and MP Manish Tewari said on social media that the two-nation theory that finally led to the Partition of India pre-dates Partition by at least seven decades, if not more. 'It had proponents on both sides - Muslims and Hindus,' he said, providing quotes over those seven decades from various people such as V.D. Savarkar, Syed Ahmed Khan, Bhai Parmanand and Lala Lajpat Rai. 'In any case, the Partition was not the partition of India but of two of its provinces – Punjab and Bengal. The NCERT chapter on Partition Horror's is a case of distorting history,' Mr. Tewari said, adding that in the North West Frontier Province, the Hindu Mahasabha members joined hands with Sardar Aurang Zeb Khan of the Muslim League to form a government in 1943. 'The Mahasabha member of the Cabinet was Finance Minister Mehar Chand Khanna,' he said. The module released to mark 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day' said the Partition happened due to wrong ideas. 'The party of Indian Muslims, the Muslim League, held a conference in Lahore in 1940. Its leader, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, said that Hindus and Muslims belong to two different religious philosophies, social customs, and literatures,' the module said. (With PTI inputs)

Congress, BJP lock horns over NCERT's New 'Partition' module: What is it and why the clash? EXPLAINED in 5 points

Delhi: Sparks flew between Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday over NCERT's new Partition module, which squarely points fingers at the Grand Old Party, Muslim League leader Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and India's last Viceroy, Lord Louis Mountbatten, holding them responsible for the partition. While Congress fumed, demanding the module be scrapped—and even 'burnt'—the BJP shot back, and said that the "Rahul-Jinnah" party was upset about the truth coming out. NCERT's new modules about the India's Partition – one for the middle stage (Classes 6-8) and another for the secondary stage (Classes 9-12) – were released in August to mark Partition Remembrance Day. The material underscores that 'the Partition of India and the creation of Pakistan were by no means inevitable,' attributing responsibility to 'Jinnah, who demanded it; the Congress, which accepted it; and Mountbatten, who formalised and implemented it,' as per ANI. The secondary stage module notes, "None of the Indian leaders had experience in running national or even provincial administration, the army, police, etc. Hence, they had no idea of the massive problems that would naturally arise... Otherwise, such haste would not have been made." Congress leader Pawan Khera refuted the claims made in the book, further stating that the modules be 'burnt'. He further went on to say that 'if history has the biggest villain, it is the RSS," claiming that India's partition was because of the 'collaboration between the Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League.' The BJP hit back at Congress for objecting to NCERT's new Partition module, accusing the opposition of being rattled because, as per him, the 'truth' has been brought out. BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia labelled the Congress as 'Rahul-Jinnah party' and alleged that Rahul Gandhi's worldview mirrors that of Pakistan's founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, mentioned a report by news wire ANI. Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) member secretary, Dr Om Jee Upadhyay in a video statement said, '..Partition was not a normal incident, but it is one of the most tragic incidents of history where 1.5 crore people were forced to cross boundaries...12-15 lakh people were brutally new generation should know the truth so that they can learn from it and ensure that such incidents don't happen in the future...I do not think that there is any factual mistake in the modules and nobody has pointed out any factual mistakes," reported HT. Seventy-nine years ago, when Britain withdrew from the subcontinent, its colony, India, was split into two nations—India and Pakistan, with East Pakistan later emerging as Bangladesh. The event which came along with India's independence, on August 15, 1947, also unleashed one of the largest upheavals in history, forcing around 15 million people from their homes and leaving nearly a million dead in waves of communal violence.
