Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah reach Japan Open final
Pearly and Thinaah achieved a commanding 21-13, 21-11 victory over the world No. 2 duo in just 36 minutes, silencing home fans at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on Saturday (July 19).
The world No. 3 pair had lost 13 out of their last 14 meetings against Matsuyama and Shida, but they were unfazed by their poor record and played brilliantly from start to finish, securing a morale-boosting win.
The in-form Pearly and Thinaah have now reached their fourth final this year, having captured the Thailand Open and finished as runners-up in the Indonesian Open and Masters.
Standing in their way to their second title of the year will be either China's world No. 1 Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning or world No. 9 Jia Yifan and Zhang Shuxian.

Among the three, fast rising youngster Lanier could have the best chance. The 20-year-old created history by becoming the first French player to capture a World Tour Super 750 title when he won the Japan Open last year. Lanier then did well to reach the final again this year before going down to Yuqi. He also proved his ability when he captured the Orleans Masters title and reached the All-England semi-finals in March. Lanier then won gold in the European Championships, beating Toma in an all-French final. The player has already declared his intentions to win the world title. Meanwhile, Christo caught the eye when he finished runner-up to China's Weng Hongyang in the Swiss Open. The 23-year-old also did well to reach the semi-finals of the Japan Open and Singapore Open. Christo has captured two World Tour titles so far in his career - the Super 300 German Open and Hylo Open last year. Toma's best performance in the World Tour this year came in the German Open where he made it to the semi-finals. Christo and Toma will also be competing in Paris together in the men's doubles and will be out to impress in the event too.

Trump golf courses to host PGA, LIV events in 2026
COURSES owned by President Donald Trump will be hosting events on both the PGA Tour and LIV Golf for the first time in the same year in 2026. LIV Golf has announced it will return to Trump National Golf Club Washington D.C. in Sterling, Va., next year. The Saudi Arabia-backed tour has had an event on a Trump-owned course every year since its inception in 2022. It last held an event at the Trump National Golf Club in 2023. The 2026 event, scheduled for May 8-10, will be one of 14 events on the tour. The PGA Tour, meanwhile, has scheduled an event at Trump National Doral, just outside Miami, according to Sports Business Journal. The tournament is expected to be played April 30-May 3, which slots in three weeks following the Masters and two weeks ahead of the PGA Championship. Per SBJ, the tournament could be a signature event that includes a $20 million purse. Both LIV Golf and the PGA Tour have a history of hosting events at Doral. LIV tournaments were played there for the first four years of its existence, 2022 to 2025, before the circuit didn't return to the Blue Monster this year. Rexy: Shuttlers must have same focus and desire of coaches to succeed at worlds

PETALING JAYA: National doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky believes that the shuttlers and coaches need to have the same goals if they hope to succeed in the World Championships. With the world meet coming up from Aug 25-31 in Paris, Rexy faces a pivotal task to make sure the players are at their best mentally and physically to fight for glory. The Indonesian though stressed that it's not enough for the coaches to want to succeed but players also must aim high in the prestigious meet. 'Coaches are not the only ones who must want to succeed. Players must also want the same,' said Rexy. 'There's no point if only the coaches set certain targets but players don't have the same focus or desire. 'Players need to know what they want to achieve too and work towards it. The right mindset is very important.' Malaysia's best chance for medals in Paris will be in the men's doubles through world No. 2 Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, world No. 3 independent pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, world No. 7 Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun and Yap Roy King-Wan Arif Wan Junaidi (No. 22). In the past three editions, only the men's doubles have contributed medals for Malaysia. Aaron-Wooi Yik remain the only shuttlers to have captured the title when they triumphed in the 2022 edition in Tokyo.
