Sunday Times Rich List 2025: The top 10 richest people in the North West
Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe remains the richest man in the North West, despite his net worth dropping by a staggering £6.5bn in the last 12 months, according to the latest edition of the Sunday Time's Rich List.
The Failsworth-raised chemicals magnate's £17bn fortune also makes him the seventh wealthiest in the UK. He's followed on the North West list by Cheshire-based The Duke of Westminster and the Grosvenor family, owners of property business Grosvenor Group.
Despite owning a vast global property empire, which includes the Liverpool One shopping centre and luxury apartment blocks in Shanghai, Tokyo and Hong Kong, the family saw their net worth drop by £243m by £9.9bn. Liverpool-based Home Bargains founder Tom Morris - dubbed the 'richest Scouser who ever lived' - is in third spot after his net wealth grew by £316m to almost £7bn fortune.

And it's also been a good year for Salford bookmaking brothers Fred and Peter Done, owners of Warrington-based Betfred. Their combined wealth has risen by more than £500m to almost £3bn.
The North West top 10 also features the Issa brothers Mohsin and Zuber, who started their petrol station empire with a garage in Bury before buying Asda, who saw their wealth increase by 20% to £6bn, and Simon, Bobby and Robin Arora, the Hale Barns-based brothers behind the B&M discount chain.
Their personal fortune dropped by £104m, but they still have nearly £2.6bn to fall back on. Meanwhile Bury-born businessman Henry Moser, the 75-year-old founder of Cheadle-based Together Financial Services Ltd, also made the regional top 10 with a fortune of £2.15bn.
The 2025 Rich List has seen the largest fall in the number of billionaires in the guide's 37-year history, from a peak of 177 in 2022 to 156 this year. The 350 individuals and families, which includes Sir Elton John, Lord Lloyd-Webber, Sir Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Euan Blair, Sir Lewis Hamilton and Sir Christopher Nolan, together hold combined wealth of £772.8 billion — 3% down on last year.
Robert Watts, compiler of the Sunday Times Rich List, said: "The Sunday Times Rich List is changing. Our billionaire count is down and the combined wealth of those who feature in our research is falling.
"We are also finding fewer of the world's super rich are coming to live in the UK. This year we were also struck by the strength of criticism for Rachel Reeves's Treasury.
"We expected the abolition of non-dom status would anger affluent people from overseas. But homegrown young tech entrepreneurs and those running centuries-old family firms are also warning of serious consequences to a range of tax changes unveiled in last October's budget.
"Our research continues to find a wide variety of self-made entrepreneurs building fortunes not just from artificial intelligence, video games and new technologies but also mundane, everyday items such as makeup, radiators and jogging bottoms. We know many of our readers find these people and their stories inspiring — especially the many who had tough starts or setbacks to their lives and careers."

These 5 Precious Metals Stock This Week Surged To Even Higher Highs
precious metals Precious metals miners specializing in the extraction of gold and silver from the earth had a good week. These five – four of the NYSE and one on the Nasdaq – blasted to new price highs mid-week before pulling back a bit on Friday. A widely followed gold stocks ETF also showed a new high. Two factors are at work: inflation and fear. That Donald Trump tariffs are basically inflationary have money managers looking for hedges and the classic for that is precious metals. That's one of the reasons for this week's price run-up in silver and silver stocks – now playing catch-up with the yellow metal. Fear is the sense globally that the U. S. may have lost its economic bearings with the tariffs nonsense. So, the dollar keeps dropping and money finds its way into precious metals again. AngloGold Ashanti AngloGold Ashanti daily 6 7 25. When does transfer window close? Liverpool's deadline for signing Florian Wirtz
Liverpool is looking to get its business done early on in the transfer window, with Jeremie Frimpong already through the door and prodigious Hungarian goalkeeper Armin Pecsi joining him on Saturday. Pecsi, 20, has been signed for a fee that could rise to $2 million and is expected to play for Liverpool's Under-21 team next term, while also benefiting from training alongside Alisson and Giorgi Mamardashvili. Advertisement The signing that the majority of Liverpool fans are most excited about, though, is that of Florian Wirtz, who is expected to secure a move to Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen. It emerged last month that Wirtz had decided he wanted to join Liverpool over Bayern Munich, and the Reds have been working to try to get a deal over the line in recent weeks. READ MORE: Liverpool transfer news LIVE: Florian Wirtz medical, next signing imminent, Milos Kerkez latest READ MORE: Liverpool sent Jack Grealish message as big summer continues to take shape When does the transfer window close? Liverpool is hopeful of tying up a deal for Wirtz before the first transfer window of the summer closes on Tuesday, June 10, but even if the deal is not done by then, the second window of the summer opens less than a week later and runs until the beginning of September, so the Reds will not panic if Wirtz's signature hasn't been secured by June 10. Advertisement The new transfer window that opened on June 1 was introduced so that clubs participating in this summer's revamped Club World Cup could make signings ahead of the tournament getting underway in mid-June. Liverpool made an improved bid to sign Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen late this week, hoping to end the transfer saga that started in mid-May. In the late evening on Friday night UK-time, it was reported that the Reds had upped their bid to a figure of $153 million (£113 million) — around $135 million (£100 million) base and up to around $18 million (£13 million) in add-ons. Advertisement Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that Liverpool is "advancing" to complete the Wirtz deal in the coming days, with negotiations in the "final stages." It's claimed the player will then travel to Merseyside to complete his medical. This bid is thought to be below Bayer Leverkusen's valuation of the player, thought to be around $170 million (£126 million).
