Brother of murdered Glasgow taxi boss vows to get justice 23 years on
He believes his brother was killed by three men and has given detectives the name of a fourth – a Glasgow businessman – who sanctioned the hit.
The brother of a taxi firm owner murdered 23 years ago has vowed to finally get justice for his loved ones.
Businessman Alexander Blue was attacked outside his luxury home in Glasgow's West End in 2002 and died two days later from his head injuries.
His older brother Billy, 67, and mum Kathy, 91, are desperate to see the case solved after more than two decades of pain. But they fear they're running out of time as yet another anniversary nears.
Billy recently underwent major surgery while Kathy requires constant care.
Billy believes his brother was killed by three men and has given detectives the name of a fourth – a Glasgow businessman – who sanctioned the hit.
He claims one man lured his brother out of his home while two others were waiting to overpower him.
In an exclusive interview with the Record, Billy said: 'Alex needed someone familiar to put him at ease, to distract him, because Alex was a big guy and could look after himself.
'Alex was clearly taken by surprise by someone he trusted. He would not normally have given up without a struggle.'
He insists there is enough evidence to bring the killers to justice. Billy, of Robroyston, Glasgow, added: 'It should never have taken this long and the evidence is there.
'The police are quite aware of who was behind my brother's death. There is no mystery about this. The dogs on the street know who killed Alex.
'It's time to bring those responsible to justice.'
Alex, then 41, was last seen studying business papers at about 8pm in his favourite coffee bar, just off Byres Road, on the night he was attacked.
Police got a telephone call just before 12.30am on June 25.
A neighbour had found Alex unconscious in a pool of blood in the drive of his Dundonald Road home.
The door of his Porsche was open, as was the door to his home. But nothing had been stolen. His injuries were so bad his mum didn't recognise him when she saw him in hospital. In the early days of the probe, detectives faced major obstacles.
Officers hit a wall of silence, with few clues and no eye-witnesses.
Most of Alex's business was conducted in cash with few deals recorded on paper.
His firm, the Taxi Centre, had a reported £7million annual turnover.

Alex had been concerned for his safety in the days before his murder and thought he was being watched.
Police Scotland said: 'This is obviously still a difficult time for the Blue family who have suffered distress and heartache over the last two decades as they seek answers and justice for Alexander.
'Police Scotland never considers cases closed and this case remains under review.'

He was convicted on Tuesday, 3 June, 2025, and is due to be sentenced on Monday, 30 June." Detective Inspector Euan McMillan said: "Colquhoun is now facing the consequences of his violent, sexual attack on this woman. We acknowledge it can be difficult for victims of sexual crimes to come forward. "I would like to commend the woman for reporting Colquhoun. I hope this outcome provides her with some form of justice. We are committed to tackling all forms of sexual violence and I would urge anyone who wishes to report a crime, to come forward. "You will be fully supported by our specially trained officers and partner agencies. There is no time bar to reporting, regardless of when it happened, please contact us so we can fully investigate."

The vacuum effect from the hole trapped him up to his elbow, forcing staff at the Hotel Zafiro in Can Picafort, a resort in the north of the island, to call in the emergency services. The Mirror reports paramedics arrived first at the scene but were unable to free the boy, forcing firefighters to drain the pool and then use a pneumatic drill to reach a pipe leading to the hole. The boy was given a helmet and ear protectors as they drilled down, before they eventually cut it off at the source around 30 minutes later and freed the boy. Photographs from the scene show the boy in an orange cap waiting patiently as emergency workers attempt to get him out. Police and members of the Spanish Guardia Civil were also at the scene. The boy was taken to a local clinic but thankfully did not sustain any serious injuries. An investigation into potential negligence by hotel management is now underway, local reports said. Greg Monks, 38, vanished after becoming separated from his friends during the first evening of their trip. He was last seen on CCTV in the residential area of Cerro de Aguia, roughly four miles away from the main club and bar strip of Albufeira, on Tuesday night where he had been enjoying the night with his mates. His last known whereabouts were between Tuesday evening, May 27, and the early hours of Wednesday morning, May 28. His sister, Jillian Monk, has now urged residents in the Cerro de Aguia area to review any footage from their private cameras and ring doorbells. The worried sister posted on a Facebook page for expats and holidaymakers asking if anyone living nearby could assist in the search for her brother, reports the Daily Record. In a further post today she asked for help contacting local Portuguese radio stations to get the word out to local taxi drivers. Article continues below Jillian also wrote: "I am now seeking help from residents of the Cerro de Aguia area to please check any home cameras or doorbell footage around 2am and 5am as police believe he was in the area around this time!". The stag party was scheduled to return last Saturday after arriving on Tuesday to celebrate in the popular sun-soaked destination. Jillian first sounded the alarm that Greg had gone missing in a frantic social media post on Thursday. She said: "My brother has not been seen since Tuesday evening. If you are currently there and have any information place contact me with any info." Greg's father has allegedly cut short a holiday in Spain to cross the border and look for his son. A fundraiser has also been set up to help raise money for the family who have flown out to help the search. Gillian McCallum, set up a fundraiser on behalf of the distraught family, said: "Our son Greg Monks went to Portugal for a stag do on Tuesday May 27 and on the first night back out there he never returned to his hotel and has now been missing for three days. We are desperately seeking Greg's safe return and need your help." Over £20,000 has been raised to fund the search efforts. A statement from the family said: "There are professional search teams out looking for Greg and the family have all flown out to try to help find him but don't know how long their stay will be."
