ICC prosecutor ordered to recuse himself from Venezuela investigation

Washington Post3 days ago
Karim Khan, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, was ordered by the court to recuse himself from its investigation into alleged crimes against humanity in Venezuela over a conflict of interest in the case.
Khan, a British attorney who is on leave from the ICC due to an unrelated investigation, has since 2021 led the ICC's investigation in Venezuela, where President Nicolás Maduro is accused of arbitrarily detaining, torturing and executing his political opponents.

AG Pam Bondi orders grand jury probe of Obama officials over Trump-Russia 2016 collusion investigation

Attorney General Pam Bondi convened a grand jury investigation centered around the 'Russiagate' probe on Monday, the latest bid by Donald Trump to wage war against Barack Obama for the FBI investigation of his first presidential campaign. The direction by Bondi does not mean that charges for Obama or members of his team are imminent. Instead, the move allows prosecutors to issue embarrassing subpoenas and gather testimony, while launching a fishing expedition. It's still unclear what crimes members of the Trump administration believe were specifically committed regarding the investigation into the ties between Donald Trump's campaign and Russia. Tulsi Gabbard's ODNI memo is the only document publicly alleging any wrongdoing by members of the Obama administration surrounding the investigation, which a previous DoJ review led by John Durham already probed. This is a breaking news story. More to follow...

Brazil's Supreme Court Places Bolsonaro Under House Arrest

Brazil's Supreme Court on Monday ordered the house arrest of former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is accused of overseeing a plot to cling to power after losing the 2022 election. His case lies at the center of President Trump's tariff feud with the South American nation. Mr. Bolsonaro, who was ordered last month to wear an ankle monitor while he awaited trial, had been told to remain at home most hours and to stay off social media platforms. In the new ruling on Monday, Justice Alexandre de Moraes said that the former president had violated those terms, indirectly sharing posts and videos on social media through the accounts of his allies and sons. Justice Moraes also ordered the Brazilian police to seize Mr. Bolsonaro's cellphone and limited visits to his home, except by his family and lawyers. Mr. Trump has called the case against Mr. Bolsonaro, a political ally, a 'witch hunt.' Last week, the American president slapped a 50 percent tariffs on some Brazilian products. He also imposed sanctions on Justice Moraes, accusing him of censoring conservative voices online.
