Thames Valley Police officer improperly accessed records

BBC News10-02-2025
A former police officer who accessed official records which related to her partner would have been sacked had she not quit, a police disciplinary panel has ruled. The partner of the female Thames Valley Police officer had "involvement with controlled drugs" which she did not officially declare, despite having multiple opportunities to do so.The former police constable was granted anonymity by TVP so she cannot be named publicly and was referred to in TVP papers as Former Officer X.A panel found she once properly accessed a file relating to a drugs investigation involving the man but that there was "clearly no legitimate policing purpose" for doing so again in December 2019 and May 2020.
The force said the multiple breaches amounted to gross misconduct and that she would have been dismissed.Any sanction less than dismissal "would not have maintained public confidence in and respect for the police service," the panel added.

A neighbour who spoke to police revealed he's been asked by police about a report of a firearm at the scene. He said: 'The police came to my door and said they had received a call from someone saying there was a gun in the house. 'I was shocked but I have no idea what it's all about. 'I don't know the people who stay there as I think it's an Air BnB and the people change all the time. 'There are a lot of police about and they are going round the doors and seem to be taking it very seriously.' Around half a dozen police motors are in the area with cops also searching inside the home in the quiet street. Another neighbour added: 'The police came about 1pm and made straight for the house that's being searched. 'I thought it looked like a drugs raid or maybe they were making an arrest but nobody seems to be inside the house. 'I don't know who lives there but it's not something you expect to see on your doorstep.' More to follow... Cat named Leonardo da Pinchy terrorises New Zealand town stealing underwear

Leo's owner, Helen North, says she struggles to keep up with her cat's kleptomaniac habits A cat named Leonardo da Pinchy has become a well-known thief in New Zealand after gaining a reputation for stealing underwear and socks from homes around his local neighbourhood. Pinchy's relentless laundry raids from clothes lines and bedrooms have made him a local celebrity in the quiet beachside town of Mairangi Bay. The 15-month-old cat has a surprisingly expensive taste for a feline thief, regularly swiping silk boxer shorts, thick men's work socks, often with the clothes pegs still attached, and in one particularly embarrassing moment for his owners - a brand-new $300 NZD (£134) cashmere sweater. Leo's owner, Helen North, struggles to manage her cat's kleptomania, finding it hard to return Leo's stolen goods. "My daughter was at home sick and she rang me at work saying, 'It's bad, it's bad, this is the worst thing he's brought in, it's really bad," she said. "Because it was beautiful. I was like, 'Ooh, can I keep that?' But I couldn't." Instead, North turned to a neighbourhood WhatsApp group to return Leo's stolen clothes to their rightful owners. Her usual message read: 'Are these your undies?' But the stolen stash kept growing, piles of socks, loads of underwear, and even a bizarre five-foot-long stuffed snake. On one record-setting day, Leo brought home nine items, enough to assemble a full outfit if you didn't mind a mix of baby clothes and menswear. 'He brought in a jersey this morning at ten past eight,' North said. 'The shops hadn't even opened.' With dozens of items still unclaimed, Leo's embarrassed owner widened her search for the rightful owners this month by posting photos of his loot on a local Facebook page, along with an apology and her address. Among those who turned up was a woman who recognised her pink and purple underpants, and a boy who was reunited with his beloved missing sports jersey, which was helpfully marked with his name on the back. Though items were returned, one of his regular targets, who is now allergic to cats, has to dry her washing indoors. 'All of our neighbours think he's amazing,' she said. 'Some of them are quite put out that he hasn't actually stolen anything of theirs.' Still, North has tried everything to curb her cat's laundry obsession, from keeping him indoors to leaving out clothes at home for him to steal. Nothing has worked. 'He only wants stuff that he shouldn't have,' she said, adding that she's not willing to risk one online suggestion that Leo simply needed another playmate. "He might teach another cat to do this,' North said. Leo's life of crime began when he was first allowed outdoors a year ago. But his family hopes it's just a childlike phase. 'I hope he grows out of it because I don't want to do this for like, 15 years,' North said. 'This is a lot of admin.' For now, on the roads of Mairangi Bay, Leonardo da Pinchy remains at large.
