The introductory training session on Wednesday featured participation of all the players in the squad except Seeb and Bahla players as they are gearing up for the OFA Cup final clash on Sunday. Also, the professional players will not take part in the first stage of the domestic camp due to club commitments including: Essam al Subhi (Iraq's Al Quwa Al Jawiya), and Al Mundher al Alawi (Al Zawra Club) while Salah al Yahyaei (Bahrain's Al Khalidiya SC) may join during May end. Mohsin al Ghassani (Bangkok United SC) ended his season at Thai league and he started the warm-up sessions with the national team besides the new joiner in the team, Tariq al Saadi (Spain's UE Sant Andreu SC).
In the forthcoming days, Jaber and his assistant Yaqoob al Sabahi will move to technical and tactical preparations. The camp includes two friendly matches, beginning with a fixture against Niger on Tuesday in Muscat, followed by a warm-up match against Lebanon on May 28.
In the coming days, coach Rasheed Jaber will move to technical and tactical preparations.
These friendlies serve as critical preparation for Oman's decisive qualifiers in June. The Red Warriors will face Jordan in Muscat on June 5, followed by an away match against Palestine in Jordan on June 10. With qualification hopes reignited after a crucial 1-0 away victory against Kuwait and a hard-fought draw with South Korea in March, Oman aim to secure six points from the final two matches to raise their chances in securing direct berth to the 2026 Fifa World Cup.
Oman currently sit fourth in the group with 10 points from eight matches, trailing group leaders South Korea by six points, with two rounds remaining.

Sohar stun Rustaq in six-goal thriller, Bahla down Saham
MUSCAT: Sohar secured an exciting 4-2 victory over Al Rustaq in a thrilling, goal-filled encounter hosted at the Al Rustaq Sports Complex, as part of the opening round of the Elite League. Both teams started cautiously, seeking to avoid an early setback. Sohar's first chance came in the third minute when striker Amir Alaa's shot went straight into the hands of Al Rustaq's goalkeeper. With Sohar gradually increasing their pressure, Duane Muckette opened the scoring in the 15th minute, giving his side the lead. Al Rustaq retreated and relied on crosses, while Sohar maintained control. AL Rustaq's best attempts came through Ibrahim al Harrasi and Khalid al Haddabi, with the latter's strike denied by the left post in the 23rd minute. Sohar responded with a chance from Mohamed Ihab, while Al Haddabi missed a golden header opportunity just before half-time, which ended 1-0 in Sohar's favour. Al Rustaq came out aggressively in the second half searching for an equaliser, with Ahmed al Adawi forcing Sohar's keeper into a save in the 54th minute. Sohar replied with a dangerous chance from Duane Muckette in the 65th minute, but Al Rustaq's defence held firm. Persistence paid off for the hosts when Qusai al Maamari struck a powerful left-footed effort in the 78th minute to level the match. However, Sohar quickly restored their lead in the 81st minute as Muckette netted his second with a thunderous shot from distance. The game reached peak drama in the final moments. Issa al Buraidi equalised for Al Rustaq in the 85th minute with a header, but Sohar responded almost instantly when Amir Alaa struck in the 86th minute, before sealing the win with his second goal in stoppage time. Sohar walked away with a 4-2 triumph, earning three valuable points to kick off their Elite League campaign. Bahla defeated Saham 2-0 at the Sohar Sports Complex. BAHLA BLANK SAHAM Meanwhile, Bahla launched their Elite League campaign with a valuable away win, defeating Saham 2-0 at the Sohar Sports Complex. The first half was fairly balanced, with Bahla enjoying more possession and control in midfield. However, their dominance produced just one dangerous chance, while Saham's attack was completely ineffective, failing to trouble the goalkeeper. Early in the second half, Bahla broke the deadlock in the 49th minute when Abdulsalam al Shukaili converted a left-footed finish from a corner delivered by Nasser al Saqri. The visitors continued to press, and in the 64th minute, Al Shukaili doubled the lead, finishing off a precise pass from his brother, Majid al Shukaili, once again with his left foot. Bahla wasted further opportunities to widen the margin, while Saham struggled to keep up with the tempo, creating their only real chance in the 83rd minute through Ahmed al Abdulsalam's shot. In the closing stages, both sides exchanged half-chances, but the defences and goalkeepers held firm. The match ended in a deserved 2-0 victory for Bahla, leaving Saham disappointed in their opening fixture.

Red Warriors gear up for Türkiye WC Camp
MUSCAT, AUG 16 Oman's national football team, the Red Warriors, will embark on an important stage of their preparation journey as they will travel to Türkiye on Wednesday for a week-long external training camp. The camp, announced earlier by head coach Carlos Queiroz during his first press conference, will form a critical part of the build-up to the decisive AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to 2026. The Türkiye camp will run for seven days, after which the squad will fly directly to Uzbekistan to take part in the upcoming Central Asian Football Association (CAFA) Nations League 2025, scheduled to kick off from August 26 to September 9. Oman has been drawn in Group A alongside host nation Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan. Group B consists of Iran, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and India, following Malaysia's withdrawal. According to Hussain al Zadjali, a member of the national team's administrative staff, discussions are ongoing with several Turkish clubs to arrange friendly matches during the camp. Among the proposed fixtures is a friendly scheduled for August 26, though official confirmation from the Turkish side is still awaited. Such matches will provide Oman with valuable competitive exposure and help head coach Queiroz further evaluate his squad under match conditions. The Portuguese tactician, who was recently appointed as the Red Warriors' head coach and technical manager, is expected to announce his second squad for the camp following the completion of the first round of the Oman Elite League, which commenced on Saturday. This timing may allow him to observe local players in competitive action before finalising his choices. However, the camp in Türkiye will not feature some of Oman's overseas-based professional players. Striker Mohsin al Ghassani, currently playing in Thailand for the Bangkok United club, will not join the camp due to club commitments. Midfielder Al Munther al Alawi, a key figure for Jordan's Al Wahdat, is also unavailable, alongside Khalid al Buraiki and Abdulrahman al Mushefri, both of whom are plying their trade with FC Artis Brno in the Czech Republic. Their absence, though significant, will open the door for young local talents to impress Queiroz and stake a claim for a spot in the final roster for the qualifiers. The Turkish camp is being seen as a vital stepping stone in Oman's broader strategy to build momentum ahead of the crucial AFC qualifiers in October, where the national team will face Qatar and the United Arab Emirates in Group A matches hosted in Doha in the coming October. Coach Queiroz already underlined the importance of instilling discipline, tactical awareness and physical readiness in the squad. The Türkiye camp will therefore focus not only on fitness and tactical drills but also on strengthening team cohesion, especially as the squad will continue to integrate new faces from the Olympic team. As the countdown to the qualifiers is underway, the Red Warriors' preparations are steadily intensifying. The Türkiye camp will represent an opportunity for the squad to test themselves, refine their strategies and align with Queiroz's vision as Oman will seek to achieve the dream of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup for the first time in history.
