Aishwarya Rai confessed not having the perfect beach body during Miss World competition: 'I was told...'
Aishwarya Rai was crowned Miss World in 1994, becoming only the second Indian to win the title after Reita Faria in 1996. Her victory brought her international fame and paved the way of a successful career in both Bollywood and Hollywood. In later years, the former beauty queen expressed her discomforts with certain aspects of beauty pageant, one being the requirement of contestants to wear bikinis and swimsuits, which she felt was unnecessary for winning the crown. Aishwarya Rai felt she didn't have the perfect bikini body
In an old press conference, the actress confessed that despite being the winner of swimsuit round, she considered not having the perfect beach body. She said, 'When I became Miss World, I was definitely not the best beach body of all the 87 contestants. I can vouch for it, I can put a stamp on it. And yet I won the title.' Aishwarya Rai asked Miss World organisers to remove swimwear round from the competition
Aishwarya also revealed that she had spoken to the Miss World organisers, urging them to eliminate the segment. She said, 'In fact, 1994 mein mere pageant ke baad (after my pageant), that year 1995 onwards hi unhone woh round cancel kar diya tha kyunke maine kaha ki (they cancelled that round as I had said) it wasn't very naturally comfortable for some of us, nationalities. I wasn't speaking solely for me, but I was really speaking for a lot of girls from countries where the swimwear round was not necessary… swimwear is not a natural way of life in terms of social display.'
Eventually, the Miss World organisers removed the swimsuit round from competition in 2014 to emphasise more on 'brains and personality' instead of just physical appearance. Miss World chairwoman Julia Morley shared with Elle Magazine, 'I don't need to see women just walking up and down in bikinis. It doesn't do anything for the woman. And it doesn't do anything for any of us.'
Aishwarya made her acting debut in 1997 with Mani Ratnam's Tamil film Iruvar. Her first Bollywood movie was Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya , opposite Bobby Deol. She tied the knot with Abhishek Bachchan in 2007 and the couple have a 11-year-daughter Aaradhya Bachchan.
Aishwarya was last seen in Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan:II (2023), which she starred alongside Chiyaan Vikram and Karthi. This is a sequel to the 2022 film, Ponniyin Selvan:I.

FEFKA's B Unnikrishnan shares update on Unni Mukundan and Vipin Kumar dispute: ‘It's settled'

(Picture Courtesy: Facebook) The long-standing dispute between actor Unni Mukundan and his former manager Vipin Kumar appears to have been resolved. As reported by Asianet News, FEFKA General Secretary B. Unnikrishnan confirmed that the two parties were brought together for a discussion and that the matter was amicably settled. He stated that the organization had not received any formal complaint against Vipin, and reiterated that no actresses have filed complaints either. 'The matter is outside our scope now…' B. Unnikrishnan further clarified that the union would not intervene in the police complaint filed by Vipin against Unni Mukundan. He also dismissed Unni's previous remarks that Vipin was never his manager and that complaints were pending against him within the organization, stating those claims were inaccurate. 'The matter is outside our scope now, as it is with the police,' he added. Vipin Kumar had earlier alleged in his police complaint that Unni Mukundan physically assaulted him after he posted a social media message praising Tovino Thomas's film Narivetta. According to Vipin, the actor was reportedly frustrated over the lack of film opportunities post-'Marco', and reacted aggressively during a confrontation. 'I did fling his cooling glasses in the heat of the moment' In response, Unni Mukundan publicly refuted all accusations, labeling them as part of an orchestrated smear campaign. He strongly denied any physical assault, stating that the only thing he did during the altercation was throw Vipin's sunglasses. 'There was a verbal disagreement. I did fling his cooling glasses in the heat of the moment, and I won't deny that. But there was no physical violence,' Unni Mukundan said during a press meet. Unni Mukundan drops a throwback audition tape The actor also clarified that he has never made any negative remarks about fellow actor Tovino Thomas, whom he considers a close friend. Expressing disappointment over Vipin's actions, Unni said he was hurt by the betrayal from someone he once considered a friend. Unni Mukundan concluded by alleging that Vipin is not a FEFKA member and that some complaints had emerged against him in other contexts, but were not formally registered with the association. 'Thug Life' actor Kamal Haasan on the issue of imposition of Hindi in the south amid his controversial comment: 'I stand with...'

The ruling DMK in his home state Tamil Nadu has long opposed the three-language policy introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP) read more Where does Kamal Haasan stand on the issue of imposition of Hindi in the south? 'I stand with Punjab. I stand with Karnataka. I stand with Andhra,' is his quick reply. The pan-India superstar's latest film Thug Life, the 234th in a 65-year career, released in theatres this week amid controversy over his comment that Kannada was born out of Tamil. He refused to apologise and the film did not release in Karnataka. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'I am the actor from 'Ek Duuje Ke Liye'…,' Haasan told PTI during a recent visit to the news agency's headquarters, referring to his 1981 hit Hindi film about a Tamil boy and his romance with his Hindi speaking neighbour. 'Without imposition, we will learn. Don't impose, because this is ultimately education and we must take the shortest route to education… and not put hurdles in its way,' the actor said. The ruling DMK in his home state Tamil Nadu has long opposed the three-language policy introduced under the National Education Policy (NEP). The party has repeatedly accused the BJP-led NDA government of attempting to 'impose Hindi', a charge the Centre has denied. Stressing that the imposition of a particular language only hampers the learning process, the 70-year-old said, 'I stand with Punjab. I stand with Karnataka. I stand with Andhra. This is not only place which is resenting imposition.' The Indian cinema stalwart, hugely popular in the south as well as in the north with films such as 'Nayakan', 'Thevar Magan', 'Sadma', 'Saagar' and Chachi 420" that bridged language divides, said if you are truly looking at 'international breakthrough' you must learn one language. 'And English seems to be fair enough. You can do Spanish also, or Chinese. But I think the most practical thing where the shortest route to that is that we have 350 years of English education, slowly but steadily. So when you suddenly replace it, it's all over again. You make unnecessarily many people illiterate, especially in Tamil Nadu. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'You suddenly force all through Hindi and you tell them that you will not get your job beyond the Vindhyas, then you start wondering, what about the promises? What about my language? Am I not one of the 22 (official languages)? These are the questions that are coming.' Tamil is one of the 22 official languages of the country, apart from Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Telugu, Urdu, Bodo, Santhali, Maithili and Dogri. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) had said it would not let 'Thug Life' release unless Haasan apologised for his Kannada-Tamil comment at a promotional event in Chennai. His banner Raajkamal Films International filed a plea before the Karnataka High Court seeking protection for the release of the film, which sees him reuniting with Mani Ratnam after 'Nayakan' in 1987. After a rap from the court over the remark, the producers said 'Thug Life' will not be released in Karnataka. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

The Hyderabad gamer who defies a diagnosis daily

HYDERABAD: Like many Indian youths, Polina Chandra Sekhar's path seemed preordained: software engineering. The 22-year-old gamer, educator and inspiration to lakhs was quietly slotted into that future before he could even walk or talk. But fate had a different blueprint. Born in 2002 in Andhra Pradesh's Prakasam district, Sekhar's life was altered before it had even begun. The doctor arrived three hours late, a delay that led to complications and caused permanent damage to part of his brain. He couldn't walk. He couldn't speak. Diagnosed with congenital cerebral palsy, Sekhar entered a world of limited mobility and silence. Bravery wasn't a choice; it was his only way forward. Determined not to let disability define his future, Sekhar's mother uprooted their lower-middle-class life and moved to Hyderabad for physiotherapy. It was a long fight against poverty, isolation and the unknown. Two years later, her efforts bore fruit: Sekhar spoke his first words. Gradually, he began to move. Slowly, he caught up to life; step by step, word by word. Finding identity in online avatar From Class 1 to 9, Sekhar couldn't write, so he dictated his answers to friends and family, who volunteered as scribes. But as his speech grew harder to follow, even that became a struggle. Then came December 2019. Sekhar, preparing to take his Class 10 board exams, was turned away by the school. No explanation. No room for appeal. Formal education didn't just reject him — it abandoned him. With formal education shut out, Sekhar was left with a smartphone, a 5G connection and endless hours. Like most teenagers, he turned to gaming. But unlike most, he turned it into a calling. He chose Free Fire, a battle royale game that requires one hand for movement, another for aiming, shooting, and interacting. Sekhar had just one working finger. But he made it work. His friends were stunned. They encouraged him to stream his gameplay. He posted videos — just a finger dancing on a screen — and views started trickling in. A thousand. Then two. Then five thousand were watching live. In 2020, he launched his YouTube channel: Disability Gamer. By 2021, he had over 1.5 lakh subscribers. His room became his studio. Gaming became his income.
