Popular Bar, Dog Park Bar K Abruptly Closes All Locations
Bar K, a bar and restaurant that doubles as a dog park, announced that its three locations are abruptly closing. "We are heartbroken to announce that Bar K will be closing permanently, effective immediately. We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to create this joyful space where our community has been able to celebrate and share our special connection with our best friends," the company said in a statement.
Bar K launched its initial location in downtown Kansas City on the shore of the Missouri River in beautiful Berkley Riverfront Park, under the Heart of America bridge. While it appeared to find a great location, the bar revealed it ran into challenges with heavy construction in the area, as the location "became extremely isolated by massive construction projects that made access difficult at best and consumed much of its parking."
The unique bar revealed all three of its locations - Kansas City, St. Louis and Oklahoma City - all faced unique challenges, but major factors like rising costs doomed the venture.
"We know Bar K has become a beloved, indispensable destination for you and your pups, and we understand many of you will be upset and disappointed by this decision and want to understand the reasons," the bar announced.
"As is often the case, there isn't one single cause, but rather a variety of challenges that ultimately proved too difficult for our start-up business to overcome. Among many other factors, we faced the same severe economic challenges as the rest of the hospitality industry, including inflationary costs and expenses, an extremely difficult labor market, and sharply reduced consumer spending."
