The Maryland exodus highlighted by coach Kevin Willard leaving his Sweet 16 program for Villanova has trickled down to the roster.
Ja'Kobi Gillespie, a 6-foot-1 guard now headed to Tennessee, is the latest Terrapin to bolt the program in the transfer portal.

Derik Queen said over the weekend he would enter the NBA draft. The talented big man averaged 16.5 points this season, and his bank shot at the buzzer gave the Terrapins a one-point win over Colorado State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Maryland hired Buzz Williams to replace Willard, but the former Texas A&M coach is losing much of the Sweet 16 roster because of the portal. Williams has gained three transfer commitments since he was hired.
Maryland recruit Chris Jeffrey and freshman Malachi Palmer are set to follow Willard to Villanova.
Gillespie was a third-team All-Big Ten selection with Maryland in 2023-24 following two seasons at Belmont. Over his three-year college career, Gillespie averaged 13.6 points.

'A dynamic point who can really shoot the ball from deep and get his teammates involved, Ja'Kobi is a fearless competitor with a high basketball IQ," of Tennessee coach Rick Barnes said. "We expect him to help lead our team from day one and we feel quite fortunate to have him as a part of our program.'
Former Toledo forward Javan Simmons announced on X that he plans to transfer to Ohio, another Mid-American Conference school.
The 6-foot-7 Simmons was the MAC Freshman of the Year for the 2023-24 season, averaging 12.2 points and 5.0 rebounds for the Rockets. He averaged 12.5 points and 6.8 boards in 33 games this year.

NASCAR's Connor Zilisch cleared to race and will return at Daytona after breaking collarbone

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — JR Motorsports driver Connor Zilisch will attempt to race at Daytona International Speedway on Friday, less than two weeks after breaking his collarbone during a nasty, slip-and-fall accident in victory lane. The Xfinity Series points leader said Thursday he has been cleared to return and will be in the car for qualifying and will attempt to race all 100 laps at Daytona. He will have Parker Kligerman on standby at Daytona, just in case. Zilisch, a 19-year-old driver who expected to compete in the Cup Series next year for Trackhouse Racing, had surgery last week to insert a plate to stabilize the broken bone. His foot caught on his window net at Watkins Glen on Aug. 9, causing him to fall head-first onto the concrete. With three races left in the regular season, Zilisch has a seven-point lead on Justin Allgaier. He would earn points just by starting the race and would earn points even if Kligerman replaces him in the car. Zilisch already has shown a penchant for being a quick healer this season. After a one-race absence at Texas Motor Speedway because of a back injury from a crash at Talladega Superspeedway, Zilisch had posted 11 consecutive top-five finishes and five wins since his return. ___ AP auto racing:

Ravens' Lamar Jackson OK after injury scare: ‘Prayers do get answered'

OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Lamar Jackson is fine, and that an X-ray taken after the quarterback had his foot stepped on during Wednesday's practice revealed no concerns. Jackson exited Wednesday's practice with about 30 minutes remaining in the workout and did not practice Thursday, the team's final session before Saturday's preseason finale against the Washington Commanders. Jackson, the two-time league MVP, has not played this preseason and wasn't expected to play Saturday, even before he got banged up. Advertisement 'He got his foot stepped on like we said yesterday,' Harbaugh said after Thursday's practice. 'They did a quick X-ray, and there's no damage or anything like that. I'm sure it's a little sore today, so we just kept him in. He's going to be good.' It wasn't initially clear what led to Jackson going to the ground after throwing a pass during a full-team session late in Wednesday's practice. Two of the Ravens' offensive linemen immediately ran toward Jackson to help him up. Jackson stayed on the field for a few more plays after the fall, although he didn't look entirely comfortable. He threw a few errant passes and, at one point, appeared to be flexing his right hand/wrist. Jackson then walked inside the team facility alongside head strength and conditioning coordinator Scott Elliott. Members of the team's medical and athletic training staff joined them in the building later. Harbaugh didn't speak to reporters on Wednesday, and offensive coordinator Todd Monken said he didn't see the play where Jackson hit the ground. A Ravens spokesperson told reporters Jackson just had his foot stepped on. Harbaugh said Thursday that the clean X-ray was a 'big relief.' 'I told the guys, 'Prayers do get answered,'' Harbaugh said. 'I was praying.' Cooper Rush is Jackson's backup and is expected to start Saturday against the Commanders at Northwest Stadium. Spot the pattern. Dallas Baptist baseball program will become affiliate member of Pac-12 in 2027

DALLAS — Dallas Baptist's baseball program will join the Pac-12 as an affiliate member and begin play in the reconstructed conference in 2027, the school announced Thursday. DBU has won 40 games in 12 of the past 14 seasons and has played in the NCAA regionals in 14 of the past 17. The Patriots played four seasons in Conference USA and won regular-season championships in 2023 and 2025 and the league tournament in 2024. They played the previous nine seasons in the Missouri Valley Conference. 'This is yet another significant moment in the history of DBU athletics,' athletic director Matt Duce said. 'DBU baseball's legacy stretches back decades, shaped by the dedication of players and coaches who laid the foundation for today's success. Over the last two decades, coach (Dan) Heefner and the Patriots have carried that tradition to even greater heights, and joining the Pac-12 is the latest milestone in a storied history.' The Pac-12, which had 10 members disperse to other conferences in 2024, will reactivate next July. DBU will compete in baseball against Pac-12 holdovers Oregon State and Washington State and new members Fresno State, Gonzaga, San Diego State and Texas State. ___ AP college sports:
